  1. The new website is here: https://mdchannel.shutterfly.com/pictures/5 The site has expanded with some "borrowed" images from Sergio's site. Not sure why the site didn't morph into Google Photos, but there you go. Like its predecessor, still impossible to find via a google search.
  2. I have a 980 and use Victor/JVC discs all the time without issue. As for fixing it is most likely going to be the transport that is going to be the issue. Should Jimma or someone else in Europe/North America agree to look at the unit, I believe you can just send them the transport. Much cheaper. When I tried to fix a friends 780 I just swapped the transport and it was good to go. Alas, that's the easy way. Shame that there isn't anyone in Australia that can fix this type of stuff. It's the same for getting old cassette decks fixed :-(
  3. Bluecrab - I had trouble initially. It doesn't matter what products you put in your profile, you have to add these to your "Signature"
  4. You don't become a curator of a minidisc museum without hundreds of purchases on EBAY and beyond! I'm currently nearing 500. Some of that is selling but most is from purchases. Not all from MD purchases but the majority of.
  5. The guy selling this is none other than Gary Bingner, the guy responsible or the guy who ran minidisc.org. The amount of minidisc stuff this guy had was astounding. I have to thank Gary for a lot of my rare minidiscs. He is famous for owning a lot of minidisc gear and never opening it or even using it. A bit of a legend in my book!
  6. My head unit in the car can display CD text. Titles I know that have CD text are: Ministry - Relapse Gary Clark Jr - Blak & Blu
  7. I have to confess I don't use SonicStage much but after a purchase of a CD (another rare event) then I wanted to record the CD onto a minidisc. I don't have a CD player anymore so I have to use SS. However when it comes to import a CD then my head spins with all the options available. After reading this topic I decided to import the CD using AAL 256. As I'm currently using an MZ-R910 as my main portable then I needed to transfer using NETMD. However when I tried to transfer I got an error during the transfer (during the first two tracks). So as a test I reformatted the disc as HiMD and re-attempted the transfer. This time there was no issue. I then decided to use another disc and tried to transfer again using NETMD. I was going to modify the formate/bitrate options but then decided to try again. This time it transferred fine without issue. So is this related to the issue experienced here? Thanks.
  8. Hmm, sounds very similar to my own story. I would record MD to PC using a Creative external box and software. Record whole MD's to MP3 real time. Then load the whole MP3 file into Soundforge and edit out the rubbish so I would have a near seamless audio file. It was about 10 years ago that I did that I now I listen to these recordings more via MD than I do via the PC or an MP3 player. These days MD is more a hobby than anything else, so I'm currently in the stage of making up labels for all my old radio show discs. Long live MD!
  9. I didn't think it was possible that there were any more TDK Bit Club minidiscs out there. These are obscure as they come. The first disc was discovered in a bunch of used discs. The photos were pretty distant but I could see what looked like an early Bit Club shutter. However the disc looked rather plain apart from some design that I couldn't recognised. I cross referenced it with all the other Bit Clubs that I know of but nothing came close. It could have been a made up disc but for 500YEN it was worth the purchase. With anticipation I waited for the bunch of discs to arrive and was presented with the disc you see in the attachment. But how could a Bit Club disc come to be with a university logo on it? First reaction was that these discs weren't real, but what were they? Were they a TDK CLEF with a Bit Club shutter and the university logo stuck on the disc? Well the logo is actually printed on the disc so that cant be. Also, the disc is more transparent that a TDK CLEF discs and the 'INSERT DISC' icon and writing are different. The discs are definitely TDK as if you turn the disc over you see the 9 embossed dots in the centre bottom of the disc (that you get with all TDK discs). The shell of the discs seem to be the same as the 'Bit Fire' discs but of course without the flames. A couple of months later I was lucky enough to obtain a 2nd disc in the same style, but this time with a different logo. So were these a promotional item for the university? Or were they discs that you could only buy at the university? I've never seen anything like them. I've done various internet searches and found nothing. If anybody can shed any light on these discs then that would be great but unless you went to this uni in Japan in 2001 then I guess it may be another unanswered Bit Club question...
  10. Was there anything special about making these stickers? Is the logo simply printed onto the foil paper? Any information on how these were made would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    FLAC to MD

Thanks everyone. I do have an RH1 and this is what I currently use with CDs and SS. Doesn't Soundforge cost money these days?

    FLAC to MD

Hi all, I've been doing a search on the forum before creating this post. In order to record/transfer FLAC files on a PC to MD, is the best way still recording in realtime via an optical out to the MD recorder? Thanks, Z.
  14. In addition to the black I have red, blue and purple. As they are based on the 2001 color series then I imagine there is also a green version somewhere out there too.
  15. MD Channel was created by 'johnbabydisc' (which was his username on the now defunct Audio T Station forum). He used to be an avid collector last decade. Admittedly a lot of the photos are ones from the web (including ones from Ishiyoshi, but a lot of them he did own as he used to post pics of these on Audio T Station (the Kenwood discs being his prized collection). Was John ever a member on this site? He did post a thread about the new Victor discs but generally does not contribute these days Finding rare discs these days is very hard. I'm sure a lot of discs these days have simply been thrown away as people have moved onto new technology and not valued any worth of old discs :-( But the search will continue....
  16. Site I've always used is MD Channel: https://picasaweb.google.com/minidisc.channel Has the timelines too. Between the two sites, these are pretty much all the MD's ever made (with a couple of other early brands not listed).
  17. Dear Chris, You are asking advice here from members about professional discs (be it HHB, Sony or TDK). However what audio tests have you done on them yourself? This is the only way you can really decide whether a 'so called' professional disc sounds any better than a generic disc. So what are your findings? What generic discs did you use to do the test? What type of music did you use (vocal, classical, jazz, rock etc). Did you record directly from a CD player or use SonicStage to transfer the music to MD. If you used SonicStage what ATRAC did you use? Do you notice any difference in the recordings?
  18. Here are photos of the Hitachi disc. Quite plain looking but then they all were in the early days of minidisc
  19. You won't find these on EBay, only ever seen these in Japan.
  20. Thanks for the detailed response. I'll take a look when I get a chance. For the record it was my 980 that had a coin stuck in it and that still works fine. Cheers!
