This is a super old topic, but I have some information that might short-cut a lot of pain for folks as they start getting back into Minidisc.
I had exact same issue with OP. And kudos to sfbp for being so methodical in their replies.
I have an MZ-RH1 and used it for ad-hoc recordings in various locations ;-) Had found a couple discs and wanted to import them into my Win 7 computer that I had used for many years without issue.
What I have found was that if you answer "No" to the question on whether you want to import or not (when you click the <- ) the software bizarrely
