  1. Hello, I really don't want to learn how to sell on eBay just for these... hopefully someone on this forum wants them and will offer me a fair price for them. I will ship them insured at your expense and package them safely. Both have sat in the closet for years with no use. I tested both units and everything functions perfectly. Both come with working remotes and I have extra batteries for the MD3. Had to start a new user on the forum because my old one wasn't function for some reason... sorry. You can email me at mick_t@zoho.com for more info. Thanks Mick Bonners Ferry, Idaho
  2. Hello again! I have for sale my Sony MZ-N10 It is in lovely "as-new" condition - just check the photos. Lovely magnesium body. Fully kitted out MDLP with Type-S, NetMD and Acoustic Engine, more info http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-N10.html I include the original remote and the instruction manual. Sadly I have no means of charging the built-in Li-ION battery and I do not have the AA sidecar so I must specify it as "untested" however from memory I believe it worked fine. It has just been sitting unused for years. Photos: https://imgur.com/a/Gl4Gw Please PM me for offers!
  3. I'm looking for the official minidisc logo, prefereably a vector or high resolution. There's a few on the web but they seem to be fan recreations with varying degrees of accuracy.
  4. Hi! Recently I got tiny minidisc recorder MZ-N510. I successfully hacked it, to add some new options to menu e.t.c. After some time I revert it to default settings. But now I really think that before hacking, there was an option in menu "OPTION", that gives possibility to select battery type between Alkaline and Ni-mh. Is it true? I can't remember... Or it's only my fantasy? Does anybody here has UN-hacked MZ-N*** to see if your player has such option in menu. If it's true, please, can someone tell me, what the values of registers 61 and 62 in Service menu I need to save. I saw user's manuals but I can't find such option there. But I think that I really saw it in my player! The firmware of my MZ-N510 is 00 8 V1.300 Thank you.

  6. Anyone have an Onkyo MD-105FX they no longer want? I'm based in Sydney Australia and happy to pay postage from anywhere in the world.
  7. Hi all, Selling my well-loved Sony DHC-MD515 minisystem, in fantastic condition, original speakers & cables, though speaker grilles are long lost. This has been my everyday-use stereo since about 1999, though these days I chiefly use it for FM radio & AUX inputs for iPods and turntable. 3 MD changer, 3 CD changer, AM/FM tuner, 2x RCA In, 1x RCA out. 50+50W RMS amp & speakers. The marquee feature of the unit is that the front panel detaches and acts as the remote. I'll post photos if anyone is interested. Here's an informative link from minidisc.org: http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_DHC-MD515.html And here are a ton of pictures on google: https://www.google.com/search?q=sony+md515&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwipuZD-srbRAhXp44MKHT5uARgQsAQIKg&biw=1680&bih=926&dpr=2 I'm based in Texas, will have to figure out shipping. Thanks! Dan
  8. Hello All, I recently came across my old Sony MZ-NHF800 minidisc recorder and all related devices. I have no use for the items now and was wondering 1. If anyone could identify the model of the microphones and 2. provide me with an estimate of the worth of the items pictured? Any information would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  9. Hello everyone, I have a Sharp MD-MT200 which powers up normally but when a disc is inserted, it says TOC READ but then "Can't READ u", followed the next time (after a gentle wipe of the lens) by "Can't READ a". Does anyone know a solution to this problem, to get it playing again? Thanks very much.
  10. I have a Sony MZ-N505 MiniDisc player, with a Mini-USB connection port on the side, and my computer simply will not see it, as in it simply doesn't show up on the system. I have SonicStage installed, I have the drivers ready to go, but I can't for the life of me get my computer even recognize that I've connected it to the USB port. For reference, I'm using a Dell laptop with 8 gigs of RAM, an AMD A6 chip, and integrated graphics. I've tried to connect to all three USB ports, included the USB 3.0 port, but I've had no luck. Any suggestions?
  11. Greetings fellow minidiscers! Finally found a forum on which to share my troubles:) Basically my beloved minidisc collection has been sitting idle for years waiting for its rebirth... I've always used portable minidisc players to record and listen. All my minidiscs are recorded - a lot long play 4. I noticed a long time ago that some of my minidiscs started to have intermittent 'stops'.. Always at the same points. The music would play .. The track recording would somehow stop and only catch on a few seconds later.. Soon this could turn into a fully blown stop where the track just couldn't find itself... Some minidiscs this is in most of the music recording, in others just some parts. The thing is, is that the discs are clean, really well looked after.. And it's supposed to be digital, so how can it 'skip'/'stop' intermittently like that!? I'm not sure if it is the machine, or the minidisc.. Could it be that a more powerful laser from a large home machine will eliminate the discrepancies of a smaller and more weaker device? If it's the minidisc itself, how can I fix it and salvage the music??! Also- my aim is to transfer all md music to digital MP3. Would anyone have any advice on how to best approach this!!? My thanks in advance - I've only just found this forum, and think everyone here appreciates the true value of their unique music collection- not cd recordings but from the radio- much of it pirate radio- and this will never repeat!!! Thanks:) Chris
  12. There may be those wondering what record mode to use and when. I'm only covering the modes I'm familiar with, there are others on Net MD and HiMD devices. Mode Description: Stereo: Stereo is the standard recording mode for Minidisc. Stereo uses ATRAC compression to record two separate channels on the disc. In this mode the record time is indicated on the disc package plus an additional 59 seconds. A 74 minute disc is 74:59 and an 80 Minute disc is 80:59. This mode is compatible with all Minidisc players and recorders. Mono: Mono is another standard recording mode for minidisc. Mono uses ATRAC compression to record a single audio channel on the disc. Recorders will mix Left and Right channel information together to form a mono track. In this mode, record time is twice that of stereo as only half of the information is recorded. LP2: The LP2 mode is the high quality MDLP mode. LP2 uses ATRAC3 compression to record two separate channels on the disc. In this mode record time is double that of Stereo due to the enhanced compression. Recordings in this mode will play back as silence on non MDLP equipment, however track titling will still be available. LP4: The LP4 mode is the low quality MDLP mode. LP4 uses ATRAC3 compression to record a single audio channel PLUS a highly compressed stream of stereo difference information. This joint stereo mode does not provide full stereo separation. Users are likely to notice quality issues with this recording mode. In this mode record time will be four times that of Stereo mode due to the enhanced compression and the use of joint stereo. Recordings in this mode will play back as silence on non MDLP equipment, however titling will still be available. Mode selection for recording music: Stereo: Stereo Mode should be selected if the source program or programs are stereo (real or duophonic) AND the source program will fit within the recording time of the disc, AND the highest possible quality is desired, This mode should also be selected if compatibility is required for non MDLP decks. If changing modes is a hassle and the amount of Mono content is minimal it may be desirable to record both stereo and mono content in this mode. Examples include the Beatles Red Album. If both stereo and mono content to be placed on the same disc (such as a stereo LP album and a Mono Album) the stereo content should follow guidelines on recording stereo content, and the mono content should follow guidelines for mono content. Mono: Mono mode should be selected if the source program or programs are Mono and will fit in the recording time available. Mono mode is also acceptable to provide maximum compatibility. Downmixing stereo content to mono to allow for more capacity on non MDLP equipment is also acceptable IF the stereo content is true stereo and NOT duophonic. Duophonic content should not be recorded in Mono. If both stereo and mono content to be placed on the same disc (such as a stereo LP album and a Mono Album) the stereo content should follow guidelines on recording stereo content, and the mono content should follow guidelines for mono content. LP2: LP2 mode should be selected if the source program or programs are stereo (real or duophonic) and the user requires (or desires) the ability to fit more content on the disc. The user must be sure that all playback equipment to be used is MDLP capable. This mode ideally should only be used for stereo content as LP2 recording time is the same as Mono. If both stereo and mono content to be placed on the same disc (such as a stereo album and a Mono Album) the stereo content should follow guidelines on recording stereo content, and the mono content should follow guidelines for mono content. LP4: LP4 mode should be avoided when possible for music recording. The quality is similar to or less than 128 kbps MP3. If such recording time is necessary, this mode can be used for stereo content and for mono content. Due to separation considerations, the user is advised to either test or avoid this mode for duophonic content. Again, it is only suggested to use this mode if the user finds the quality acceptable for purpose. If both stereo and mono content to be placed on the same disc (such as a stereo LP album and a Mono Album) the stereo content should follow guidelines on recording stereo content, and the mono content should follow guidelines for mono content. Voice recording: Stereo: Stereo mode should be selected if stereo separation in the voice content is required along with compatibility with non MDLP equipment. Since most voice recordings are suitable in mono, this mode is likely not required. The recording quality of this mode greatly exceeds what is needed for standard voice recording. Mono: Mono is the best mode for voice content if stereo separation is not required and compatibility with non MDLP equipment is desired. The recording quality of this mode greatly exceeds what is needed for standard voice recording. LP2: LP2 should be selected if playback on an MDLP device is desired and full stereo separation is desired. The recording quality of this mode greatly exceeds what is needed for standard voice recording. LP4: LP4 should be selected if non MDLP compatibility is not required and full stereo separation is not required. This is the ideal mode for most voice recording applications when playback on MDLP equipment is possible. The recording quality of this mode greatly exceeds what is needed for standard voice recording.
  13. Hello! With regards to standard minidiscs is there a difference in Minidisc disk brands? There are so many on the market with differing prices. Can I expect more reliability and, more importantly, difference in sound quality, etc. with a disc from, say, HHB, than with a cheaper one from sony, or tdk? Thanks!

  15. As many of you know already, MiniDisc was at its most popular in Japan, in fact music in that format (Pre-recorded MDs) have been released and sold there as recent as 2010 (!) So not surprisingly, Japan has PLENTY of nice units that play and record MDs. I've been a regular user of an auction deputy service that allows you to bid on Japanese auction sites (most commonly Yahoo!). Recently I have won a bookshelf MD Unit made by Aiwa in 2003 - and I am in LOVE with it! Take a look: Here are some of its awesome features: the display changes colors (511 according to its manual!) Its FM covers the world spectrum (76-108), though the AM tuning is in japanese steps (9 khz starting from 531 - I don't use AM) You can record in different ways - from Radio to MD,CD, or Cassette, from AUX to MD,CD, or cassette, From CD to MD or Cassette, From Cassette to MD or CD The bass on this (called i-bass) is UNBELIEVABLE and comes in two modes, iBass1 or iBass2. The Cassette deck is right on the top of the unit (that little slot at the top) This thing also has a mode where it will tell you what day it is when you turn it on - it notes important birthdays as well as Japanese holidays. On a humorous note, yesterday, it mentioned that it was Greenery Day, though that was actually changed to Showa Day in 2007 (this thing was made in 2003). More about Greenery Day in Japan (it's like our Earth Day): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenery_Day Minidisc.org has a little section on this unit here: http://www.minidisc.org/part_Aiwa_XR-MJ1.html So this is a pretty sweet unit, and the sound is just awesome. It was also cheaper than I thought. When I won it at an auction, it was about 6000 Yen (around 60 bucks or so), though the shipping (from Japan, remember)...yikes. So, have any of you thought about getting any MD units from Japan? Have there been a few you've been drooling over, like I did over this one? If you did manage to get one, please show it off here!
  16. Dear SonyInsiders, I stumbled across this forum as I searched for some details of my MZ-E10 Minidisc Portable Player. So I thought I'd post it here first and see any members are interested in purchasing it? I cannot remember when I bought it - I bought it in London. I had many Minidiscs back in the day - but stupidly threw them when we moved from London to Zurich back in 2009. I pretty much have photographed it from all angles. So I hope you can see the condition is top. The Ear Phones are the Originals - I never used it that much to be honest - I just kept hold of it. Please see the photos and if your are interested - send me a PM or so... Oh - if you wanna trust me (as I'm a newbie) I can send you a Web Link privately to my own Company based here in Swistzerland. So wishing you all a wicked weekend wherever you be. Regards Benoit Oops. The Plug to the Charger Cord is a 3 Pin UK (United Kingdom) Type.
  17. Dear members, My MDS-303 laser arm has broken and I'm seeking for a new one, is there someone that does have this component or someone that knows where can I buy this? Thanks in advance, Sascha PS: Sorry for my bad english, I'm from Belgium.
  18. I had to upgrade my computer to use a program for work. I don't want to retire my MiniDisc just yet! I saw the post about QHiMDTransfer, but didn't see where to download it, or whether it worked for Mavericks. Thanks in advance!!!
  19. I use a deputy service to buy stuff from overseas, usually Japan. A couple months ago I made a bid on an MZ-R37 through that service on a Japanese auction - and it turned out to be the only bid. It just happened to be the Purple version of the MZ-R37. I heard it here and there was rare, but there isn't much info about it. Is it really THAT rare? One guy said it was "the rarest one on the planet". Is that true? FYI, it came with a pair of headphones and a remote and works perfectly. It's in very good physical shape too - one thing about Japanese second-hand stuff from my experience, nine times out of ten it looks and acts like new (with a few minor marks here and there).
  20. A few years ago I updated the firmware of my minidisc HiMD MZ-NH10. It was during a update of Sonic Stage. During the update ther was a error. Result: the display of my MZ-NH10 always says "No disc". But there is no trouble with my discs. Now after a few years I fount back my minidisc MZ-NH10 and I want start using it again. Does anyone have firmware for my Sony MZ-NH10 ? Or another solution?
  21. My elderly father has an elderly Sony DHC-ZX50MD which he has been in love with - but is devastated that it keeps erasing some of his minidiscs. Can anyone recommend a repairer around Middlesex/Surrey/London where he can take it to be looked at? Or at this stage do you think there's no point as it's too old and I should try and get him another second hand but younger system. He's too stuck in his ways to learn how to use a new system really - and at his age. It's too big obviously to post many thanks in anticipation of a reply.
  22. So I'm not new to Minidisc (as the title says). It is a format I've been familiar with since ... 2003? 2004? I was at secondary (high) school at the time I had my first player. It was a Sharp MD MT80, although for some strange reason, I could have sworn the screen and buttons were the opposite way around. Funny how memory works. Back then it was recording music from a CD player track by track, which often helped kill boredom, but its not something I would have the patients for nowadays. Which is why, in my search to get back into the format, I aquired a NetMD device from eBay. It cost £30 and came with a charger, some discs, the software cd and all the cables. It is a Sony MZ-N510, which is fairly common I think, but its a damn good player/recorder. I had trouble initially with aquiring SonicStage 4.3 but I found it, and I also had to get 64bit drivers too. I am also going to get hold of a Minidisc seperate/deck/thing from a friend whose dad has two of them, a Sony MDS-JE440. It's going to cost me £10 (as opposed to £50 which is what he would ask elsewhere) as I'm a family friend, which is an awesome score. Looking forward to that. It was very important that the player I was looking for supports MDLP since I do my discs in LP2 mode. Many people on eBay do not state this and a lot of the photos I was looking at also don't reveal much. And are also considerably more expensive. For portability and being out and about, I find that LP2 is fine, and from what I've played through my Hi-Fi, it also sounds perfectly fine. I can average about 3 albums per disc. Whether it will sound the same or not through the MDS I will have to wait and see, but I can't imagine there will be much of a difference. I'm not entirely sure why I went back to Minidiscs ... I just remembered them one day and started missing them. Been using them ever since. I've also been looking at various discs with different designs but they often cost a bit more than my budget for such items would allow. I have bought some extra discs though, some rather nice Sony Premium discs that are gold coloured. I will likely keep this post up to date with my progress regarding the MDS-JE440 and whatever else comes to mind. Thanks for reading!
  23. Hi, I have the NZ 505 MD player and have stuff on minidisc recorded years ago that I would like to rip to a new computer and make mp3/wav copies. At the moment I can listen to the songs but Audacity software doesnt record the songs as the msuic plays through the MDs headphones and not the computer with Sonicstage. Is there a way round this? Thanks and apologies if this is answered somewhere on the forum, but I haven't found it if it is.
  24. Got the following items for sale: 1. Sony MDX - C7970 Minidisc car radio 2. Sony MDX - 66XLP 6 disc MDLP changer Used, in good condition, includes all cables and manuals. Please PM for further details.
  25. I am looking for a source for the replacement, don't care if it's OEM like this one http://www.smallbattery.company.org.uk/sbc_lip3wmb.htm Just need one for under the $38.40 + S&H that Sony Quoted me today by phone and email! Surely someone here has a source for them here in the united States? Thanks, Tom lifesystems@cox.net me
