  1. Hello again Please read my first topic how the problem started and what i fixed so far: http://forums.sonyinsider.com/topic/29962-mz-rh1-recording-problem-hardware-solved/ After the recording mode worked like new, i have still recording problems. I know my workbench isn't.... but i did it with all my patient i can get in to it. So i think i didn't bend anything.... Reading normal disc = no problem Reading Hi-MD = no problem Writing normal disc = problem in the beginning = now normal Writing Hi-MD = not working.... Normal disc not recorded, but after i push with some force on the upper head it worked. So i forced bending the upper head a bit down, now the normal disc works. format, record, move, pc and mp3 (still i believe a bit slower than my working model) Hi-MD only plays. But in the middle of my adventure a short period of time it worked. also from pc and mp3. I just pushed the upper head (metal bending part) down with force..... Sometimes it works and other times i tried 1 hour and not a single time it worked. Does anybody have a solution? Is the problem the lower head/lens part, is the problem the upper part (to strong, to lose)? Is alignment needed or is the upper head not so important? Do i have to edit the parameters in the service mode? I hope you can see in the pictures how i push on the flex part to lower the upper head for testing. (really sometimes it worked, sometimes not.....) I know from opening my "good" RH1 the flex part in recording is flat on the metal part. Mine is still a bit in the air but i feel a good amount of force the head is pushing down on the disc in record mode.
  2. Hi, I've had my MD player (MDS-JE510) for quite some time, but it was sitting on the garage for some time, and about a month a go I bought a portable MD and with it decided to get it JE510 back my HiFi rack. When I purchased the portable MD it came with some used MD disks that I have been using for my recording, however I am having some issues with the new recordings. When played, the recorded MD, in some tracks (not all) seems to turn on and off the music. I am not shore if this is an issue with the MD player/recorder (MDS-JE510) or if this is Disk related, has anyone had a similar issue, that could give me some help? I am currently passing the sound to the MD from the AMP to the analog input on the MD player. The recording level is set about 3 out of 10 and the Timer is set to "Off" . Thanks in advance for your help Filipe
  3. Hi I am trying to revive my 16 years old Sony MZ R500.. The device plays with no problem my old MD's ( which I recorded 16 years ago ). The problem is with recording .. ( no surprise here .. ) The recording process will start, the device is recording until I press STOP. Then a flashing "SAVE" appears - probably reading the buffer , followed by a flashing "END" - writing the TOC. I am monitoring the recording with earphones and there is no evidence of the problem. While playback the recorded MD, it turns out that the recording has blanks on it. The audio will start but then after a couple of seconds it will go away (the counter is still running ! ). The audio will return eventually but not from the point it stopped. Then again, after a couple of seconds it disappears again. Reading the same Disc with a Sony MDS JE530 reveals the same problem. Recorded MD's from the 530 plays fine on the MZR 500 along with my old MD's which I recorded 16 years ago on the MZ R500 .. Anyhow, I tried to synchronize the blank spaces with the spin up and down during the recording * but it seems that the blanks appears in a different locations in the track - meaning audio has blanks even when the disc was spinned up while recording. * BTW, is it normal for the MD to spin up and down while recording ? I though spinning up and down is for playback mode only. I tried digital and analogue source, Standard/LP2/LP4 - same problem. I used a new battery and replaced it when I realized that there was a problem but got the same result. Unfortunately I don't have the power supply. Any help will be appreciated Thanks in advance the_1_shark
  4. I have a question for the experts. This was posted some time ago in a different forum but I didn't get any replies. This has been driving me crazy ever since mp3 cd's were conceptualized and adopted. Now most Compact DIsc players/DVD players have this capability. But there has always been a flaw and hindrance as far as the MiniDisc's compatibly with said MP3 CDs. Someone PLEASE give me your thoughts or ideas. Or perhaps an answer (Steven...cough cough cough). Read below to understand exactly what my problem is: I prefer to record optically from a CD to the MD in HI-SP mode or Linear PCM, rather than connecting the machine to a PC and transferring tracks from Sonicstage to the MD disc. For some reason it sounds better like this to me. I was over a friends house and they had a lot of music on their computer that I liked. So I quickly installed Sonicstage on their computer and burned 38 songs to a CD in MP3 format. I didn't have my RH-10 with me so I had to burn an actual CD. When I got home I put the CD in my Sony CD/DVD Changer Model# DVP-NC655P that is capable of playing MP3 CD's. The quality surprisingly sounded very acceptable. Next I attempted to start the recording with the optical in attached and the RH10. BAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE DREADED AND LOATHSOME NO DIGITAL COPY MESSAGE!!!!!!!! WHY WHY WHY WHY????? THIS DOESNT MAKE ANY SENSE!!!! If I were to re-burn THOSE EXACT TRACKS to a standard audio cd, they would record to the RH-10 just fine....WTF!!!!!!!????????? Does anyone know a way around this rather than re-burning multiple audio CD's containing all the songs packed on the MP3 disc and recording optically from them? What a waste of blank CD media!!!!!!!!!!! I am baffled as to why I can record a FACTORY COPY PROTECTED CD and upload it to any computer unlimited times, but an MP3 CD wont record at all due to some kind of SCMS (Serial Copy Management System). Retarded! What a joke...... Does sonicstage encode MP3 cd's with some kind of SCMS that a normal LOSSLESS CD burned and copied doesn't have for some reason?? Would the RH10 allow the recording from MP3 CD if I burned them with another program? Or are all MP3 cd's played with a Sony CD player flagged with copy protection to the MD? Anyone's help is greatly appreciated! Thanks for the input, Sean
  5. Hello helpful folks, I have a question. I prefer to record optically from a CD to the MD in HI-SP mode, rather than transfer tracks from sonicstage to the MD. For some reason it sounds better like this to me. I was over a friends house and they had a lot of music on their computer that I liked. So I quickly installed sonicstage on their computer and burned 38 songs to a CD in MP3 format because I didn't have the USB cord for my RH10 with me. When I got home I put the CD in my Sony CD/DVD Changer Model# DVP-NC655P that is capable of playing MP3 CD's. I started the recording with the optical cable attached and the RH10 said "no digital copy." Does anyone know a way around this rather than burning 3 regular audio CD's and recording optically from them? I am baffled as to why I can record a factory CD unlimited times, but an MP3 CD wont record at all due to some kind of SCMS (Serial Copy Management System). Retarded! Does sonicstage encode MP3 cd's with some kind of SCMS? Would the RH10 allow the recording from MP3 CD if I burned them with another program? 6. I've recently come back into using minidiscs after an hiatus of a few years and invested in RH1 and NH700 Hi-Md portables. I was wondering if anyone has compared using a portable HI-MD unit for importing mp3 files from a PC (I use Win XP) through SonicStage (I'm using v4.3 ultimate release 2, generally with NetMD LP2 mode) with one of the later NetMD decks, such as the JB980 or JE780 - is there a significant difference in the speed of transfer or any other factors favouring the use of the Hi-MD units for recording. I appreciate that that the Mp3 to ATRAC conversion by SonicStage may not be ideal and i've also used the MP3 - Nero CD image - MD Simple Burner route. A lot of the music I want to put on to minidisc is 40's-50's Jazz, so I don't have any issue with the the sound quality using the direct Mp3-SonicStage conversion. Thanks, Clive
  7. Hi, New to the forum and with a question. A friend of mine has been recording bird sounds for a couple of years now with a MZ RH1. Since it is awfully hard to get a hold of one, I was wondering if there is a newer equivalent that would give the same results. He is using a Sennheiser MKE-400 microfone. Really looking forward to read your responses! Kind regards, Geert Venhuizen (NL)
