    Cpu Upgarde Sony Vaio

Hi, this is my first post on this forum so, I might as well say hi :). I currently want to buy a Sony Vaio svs131c1em that has an I5 (the seller didnt specify what gen, I hope by the end of the day he'll give me more details), a gt640 LE, 8gb of ram and a 480gb SSD. I was wondering if its possible to upgrade the cpu. Does it have a socket or I might need to solder and whatnot (not really confident to be honest). Thanks in advance guys.

Hi, I want to upgrade the hard drive of my legacy Vaio pcg gt1 to a pata 128Gb. Do I need an adaptator to plug it in or will it be connectable as is? Also I’d like to change the ventilator, how can I obtain the specifications for it? Thank you in advance
  3. Hello Everyone, Please bare with me, as I'm new to this and Win10. So I recently got my Sony Vaio Laptop PC, S13 Premium. I'm very happy with it, even tho the Stamina/Speed Switch doesn't work. However, my bigger problem is the Slot Loading Drive. Every time I insert a Disc (must be put in 3.5/4 before it'll take it) it'll click, make a few 'loading/reading' sound and then spits (ejects) it right back out. I've tried every Disc I own. I have tried going on Sony's website and download the Firmware Update, Boot BIOS (couldn't find what I needed (ie OP Drive ) in it), Boot Safe Mode Uninstall Device/ Re-Install Drivers, Uninstall Device/ Un-Plug/Let Sit/ Reboot, and even trying to clean it (the Slot Loader has an upper/lower foam/neoprene-style cover guard). There's nothing physically preventing it (cosmetic issues, etc). The Eject button works, Properties states there is NO issues wrong with it. The person I bought it from said they used Win10 Disc prior to shipping and it worked. Even the PC worked. I wasn't sure B/C the Sony Website states that this particular drive, firmware updates, and drivers are only supported by Win7 & Win8. I'm at a loss. Hopefully the seller will resolve this, but haven't heard back. It's been back and forth for days trying to figure this out. Even if I get refunded some money, I either have to figure out a fix for this , pay to get it fixed or get an External Optical Drive. Which I don't want to do. Especially B/C I absolutely love this PC otherwise. Something to note, the Model Number doesn't match the MN when in "About This PC", which I find odd. Here are the Specs (I'll try to add photos too): Name: Sony Vaio S13 Premium M/N (On Bottom of PC): SVS13AB1GL (AKA: SVS13A290X) M/N (Located In About PC): SVS13A2APXS Processor: Intel i7-3520M CPU @ 2.90 GHz / 2.90 GHz RAM: 12.0 GB (11.9 Available ) System Type: 64-Bit OP System, x64-Based Processor Windows ED.: Win10 Pro Ver.: 1709 OS Build: 16299.967 Optical Drive: MATSHITA BD-CMB UJ167AM (Says it's a BD/DVD/CD-RW, online can't find any info, and actual Properties says its only CD-RW) ***Also note that I always get 'Not optimal resolution ', yet resolution is set to max (1600 x 900)*** And thank you for any Kind help/ support (tho please don't say "Call Customer Support", don't ask why, also I have no phone calling now). EDIT: This forum won't allow me to upload pix. So I linked them to imgur: http://imgur.com/a/rPlsTzS
  4. Hi All, I've got a Sony Vaio laptop (Model PCG-61813M, Product Name VPCCA2Z0E) which has a backlight that has stopped working. I know the screen itself is working fine. All I need to know is where I can locate the relevant fuse on the motherboard so I can test for continuity. I was planning to use a solder bridge rather than attempt a replacement. Any advice gratefully received. Many thanks. Stepney
  5. I own a lot of Japanese music and transferring my .wavs to my MZ-RH1 from my Japanese market VAIO used to copy over the Japanese characters so they could be read both in the x-appli menu connected device track list and on the remote of the MZ-RH1 itself. My Japanese VAIO recently died and I bought an Australian VAIO. Have X-appli installed on that now and it displays my Japanese .wavs with full track information in Japanese but won't copy over the Japanese track data to my MZ-RH1. It just displays "????" instead both on screen in the connected device track list and on the remote. Is there any work around for this so I can get full kanji and kana on my Hi-MDs again? Good to be here btw, got my first MD walkman in '95, went to the darkside in '05 with an ipod, it made me hate music, I threw it into the ocean and went straight back to MD. Haven't looked back!
  6. My Vaio laptop (VPCF11S1E), just over 3 years old and little used, will not boot. The repair disc I made when it was new makes no difference. I have also tried the tapping F8 and F10, to no avail. Mostly, I just get a black screen. Once, the "VAIO" logo appeared and tapping F10 brought up the Vaio recovery programme. However, this froze in the middle of the hard disc test (CPU OK, Memory OK). On another occasion, I was presented with the "Windows did not shut down properly" screen. I selected "Start in Safe Mode" but again it froze after downloading a screen full of files Once, I saw a message at the top of a black screen that included the word 'firmware' but it did not stay long enough for me to read the whole line. Is there anything else that can be tried?

  8. I can't use the Wifi of my Sony Vaio E Series. I've tried to consult it to our IT personnel and even to the store where I purchased my unit but still no luck. As per technician's comment, the hardware and software are working properly. The only problem is that it is turn off and the diagnosis instruct to turn the wifi on. Now, here is the difficult part - how to turn on wifi of sony vaio e series model no. sve14e11cvw?. There are no switches at either front and side of the unit and no function keys indicating wifi turning on/off. The only thing the windows help mentioned is to turn the wifi switch located at the front or side of the unit or use function keys, if applicable - but all of these can't be found in my unit. Is there anybody there that can help my problem?
  9. Hello I'm having a problem with my Sony VAIO model: vpcsc1afm. The issue is my battery has spotty performance. The computer runs perfect for when the battery is working but other times I will be using it and the battery light will start blinking and my computer will tell me that the battery isn't recognized (0% not charging). After the computer shuts down I can't turn it back on without taking out the battery and putting it back in. It's also happened when I was just charging it with the computer off. It will be charging and the battery light will start blinking and won't be able to turn on till I take out the battery and put it back in. I bought a brand new battery and it does the exact same thing as the original. I also completely re-installed windows and started fresh and it still is doing it. I'm thinking that maybe re-installing the BIOS will fix the problem. The bios is already updated so when I try to use the bios upgrade from Sony's website it just says the bios is up to date and won't install it. Does anyone know of a way to re-install the BIOS if there isn't an update for it?

    Hard Drive swap?

Ok, so this is a weird question. I have a Vaio PCG-7184L. About a year ago my hard drive crashed, but I've kept the computer with intentions of fixing it. In the mean time, I've been using my sister's PCG-7133L. While the outside of mine is in working condition, hers is missing 3 keys (1, i, n) and she at one point spilled root beer on the keyboard so the screen has this lovely watery-effect going on. That was sarcasm. While I would really love to just buy a new hard drive, finances do not permit. That said, would it be possible to remove the hard drive from my sister's computer and install it in my old computer? If so, would it be possible to format the disk and reinstall the OS or would it not be worth the effort. If these things are possible, could you recommend a good how-to?
  11. I have a sony vaio vgn-cr320e/p with mobile intel r 965 express chipset Intel shows on their website that there is an updated driver for it but sony hasnt had one since around 2008 and the Intel installer says something about it being custom and to download from the manufacturer of the computer. So the problem is that according to Sony it is up to date. Is there anyway around this? I really need to update it. Thank you.
  12. Hello, I ordered the following machine for my daughter and I didn't choose an SSD during my order there was on offer some unusual dual SSD with RAID 0 without any explanation as to the purpose and advantages of such a setup. So I went ahead with a hard drive. Product: US-VPCSE190X-LBOM Component: Internal lithium polymer battery (4400mAh) Component: Fresh Start Component: Blu-ray Disc™ player Component: Intel® Core™ i7-2640M processor (2.80GHz / 3.50GHz with Turbo Boost) Component: 4GB (4GB fixed onboard + 1 open SDRAM slot) DDR3-SDRAM-1333 Component: Genuine Windows® 7 Professional 64-bit Component: AMD Radeon™ HD 6630M (1GB) hybrid graphics with Intel® Wireless Display technology Component: 15.5" LED backlit Full HD display (1920 x 1080) Component: 500GB (7200rpm) hard drive Description: 15.5" S Series Customizable Laptop But I've now bought a Crucial M4 512 GB SSD (Crucial 512 GB m4 2.5-Inch Solid State Drive SATA 6Gb/s CT512M4SSD2) which I'd like to install in her latop instead of the hard drive, using the Apricorn SATA Wire Notebook Hard Drive Upgrade Kit ASW-USB-25. Can someone please tell me: 1) Whether this will work. If it doesn't then I can return the SSD without any problem 2) Whether there are issues I should pay attention to (BIOS? SATA? IDE? Drivers?) - All mysterious to me. 3) What I should do in sequence. Perhaps disable defragmentation before cloning the drive? Thanks. P
