Keith Jarrett - Radiance - Recorded in SP.

I'm listening to disc one at present. I've been listening to it for days - I think that its pretty good.

Awesome, i love his music, at least his earlier works and especially the trio with Charlie Haden and Jack DeJohnette, he's a genius.

I'm sorry to break the pattern but I never listen to any commercial music at all. If they have signed a recording contract...I don't listen...I don't download...I don't buy...I don't care.

I make my own music...I record the sounds that I enjoy and it doesn't cost me a cent.

isn't that kinda take a big hit on loss of sound quality? I mean md is simply can't reproduce the 5.1 channel audio from the dvd. on top of that, the audio is compressed on MD.

It's not quite the cinematic experience you'd get watching it, but listening quality wise I haven't noticed too much depreciation and the laughs still get me! tongue.gif

I'd agree about the earlier stuff with DeJohnette. Its pretty good.

I got 'Changeless' on CD last week (a relative 'bargain' at 11 Euro). After listening to nothing else for the week, I'm hooked on it. Superb.

^^^ Man! And to think we have to pay big bucks to get that kind of soundtracks here in the US.

All I have from Cowboy Bebop is "The Real Folk Blues", recorded through the audio output from my VCR. >_<

A whole bunch of albums by Rush.

I bought an MD unit (I think it might have been the E33) off a guy on EBay, and loads of MDs came with it.

He offered to erase them, I said "No thanks, I'll listen to some of your stuff".

I don't really enjoy "Drum n' Bass" stuff, nor "Ibiza Anthems", but hey, the guy is a Rush fan, and they're pretty damn good.

Possibly a little "clean" and "over produced" for my taste these days, but nevertheless they're a class act.

My younger son plays the drums, and he is most impressed with their drummer ...

Neil Peart is A Drummer God!

Maybe you could try Porcupine Tree. It's only band what I know, which came close to Rush. Their two newest albums are really, relly good. In Absentia (2002) & Deadwing (2005). They are really good musicians too, imho.

Currently listening Apocalyptica - Reflections. Song called "somewhere around nothing".

Yep, L7R you are right about Mr Peart.

I've downloaded a couple of Porcupine Tree tracks from the web - "Lazarus" and "Collapse the light into Earth" and haven't really made the connection yet with Rush, but I'll persist.

Rush to my ears are rather reminiscent of Yes, albeit with fewer synth layers.

The Rush recordings are all good old SP, BTW (the E33 is SP only), now listening to "Retrospective" on my NH900 with the cans on as the rest of the family are asleep.

Just got in from doing a gig with my band, letting the adrenalin subside before I hit the hay . . .

PT has those slow and melancholic songs little like pink floyd, too (which I like, as a fan of pink floyd)

These two are not very good songs and these both songs are NOT nearly like rush. How did you happened to choose these two? ohmy.gif

I think best connect when compared rush and PT is that both bands members are really good musicians and song intonations are very complicated on both bands. Of course PT members aren't THAT good as Peart or Geddy Lee but in my mind, both bands share some same characteristics. Melodical but complex, in the same time. PT is more melancholic than rush with those quiet and "low spirit" songs, of course.

I think porcupine trees two latest albums are more like Rush than their earlier albums. As I'm from Finland and english is not may native language , so I really don't listen lyrics much, so there could be a difference too.

I found PT just few months ago, when they released Deadwing. I immediately bought In Absentia and was really surprised that there's another band in the world, who sounds good AND plays good. Like Rush (or Pink Floyd or Yes)!

Happy listening! headphone.gif

btw.

Here are few PT songs which reminds me of Rush.

These are from In Absentia:

Wedding nails (!)

Sound of Muzak (!)

.3

The creator has a mastertape (!)

Strip the Soul

Drown with me

Blackest eyes (!)

from Deadwing (these are maybe more straightforwarded than songs on "in absentia" or rush songs but good, imho):

Shallow

Halo

Open Car

Start of something beautiful

Deadwing

I just made use of MP3 on a 1GB disc for the first time and managed to squeeze all the 'proper' Sonic Youth albums onto one disc. It's a good listen smile.gif

...Or will be once I get through all eleven and a half hours or so.
