I own a pair of mdr-ex71 earphones. The sound quality is good (not awesome). Compared to stock earphones that come with Minidisc players or mp3 players, this are very good. But the problem is that they are very fragile and the construction quality is poor. The cable is very thin. The cable that goes form the left to the right earphone in my pair is like melted. Yes, I can see the wires inside the rubber cover! so I'm asking for a refund. Note that I only use this to listen to my Minidisc while walking, not running or anything.

About the other options: the mdr-ex51 sounds worse than the mdrex71 (look for the freq response).

Maybe you should take a look at Panasonic-HJE50s if you're looking for in-ear closed earphones (I have read some good reviews on them).

Also, check this Post:

for about the same type of phones, but slightly better built (used them for three months intensively without any problem whatsoever) and for an even lower price, check out the Panasonic RP-JE50... they can be found on ebay for $25 sometimes (and not much more expensive most of the time)

you don't need a job for ebay, you just need to register and they send you a letter to confirm your address within a week. Then, you sign up for paypal and do your money transactions with your bank through that. I am in the same situation as you, and am planning on buying Panasonic HJE50's instead of the sony ex71's because 1) price is lower, 2) specs are btter, 3) build quality is reportedly better.

I've never dealt with ebay before, so I'm just telling you what I have done so far. I found them from Hong Kong for $20US + $10US Shipping. Only thing is...there is no shipping insurance available. Should I be worried?

i kno not having a job doesnt matter

the reason i said that was to show that im too young to have a job

or a credit card

and i dont think my dad approves of buying things off ebay for some reason

probably because u could end up getting ripped off

maybe i should go with a different style of headphones

so far all of the good earbuds that i read about seem too flawed

i wish the pair of headphones i had didnt rattle everytime they played any bass

or id still use them i liked how they sounded

i think they were MDR-G54LP

not sure but i did realy like them

Are you committed to earbuds? Over the ear style Sennheiser PX100's sound excellent for the price. Better than any cheap earbuds I've heard.

Yeah, they're $50, sorry but still cheaper than Circuit City.

How does Dad feel about Amazon?

or this via Amazon, $38 with shipping from Dakmart:

Koss "The Plug" is just awful, by the way. Sennheiser buds aren't so hot either.

Koss Portapros are also a possibility for good inexpensive sound, and they have a lifetime guarantee--if they break, you send them back and they fix them for $6. I prefer the Senns, but the Koss have fatter bass if that's what you like.

im not quite "commited" to earbuds

i just want a light pair of headphones

i dont care if theyre earbuds or behind the neck headphones as long as they are not over the ear or watever theyre called (ive never been a big fan of over the ear kind because i dont really enjoy the fit)

as long as they have good sound (not super great to the point of costing a lot), theyre comfortable, and theyre good for jogging

i just figured that earbuds would be the best since theyre light but since i cant find a good pair i figure behind the neck is good too as long as they are light

i cant tell wat style they are by the pic

are they behind the neck or over the ear (or head or watever)

how good are they for running in?

but ive never been a big fan of koss because all of their cheaper headphones suck

so im not sure if i want those

also im not sure i like their look

one thought is that ex71s have microphonics [i think thats what its called correct me if im wrong] and you will hear any interference with the wire if you're running, and have the around the neck design as opposed to the v-shape if tahts what you're asking

I have both the EX71's and the Pana's JE50's. The sound is almost the same with the Pana's being a little bassier and the EX71's being just a tad bit clearer on the high frequency side of the spectrum. Comfort wise, on my ears, the EX71's win hands down. As far as build quality I see the pana's as a bit more sturdier in the actual earpeice housing but the cable seems less sturdy than the EX71's. I definitely use the EX71's more than the Pana's because of the comfort factor.

huh....

around the neck design as opposed to the V shape

if ur talkin about my old headphones with the v-shape

well i loved the sound and i was fine with how they looked since they were light

its just the speakers in them are bad and crackle sometimes

i kno wat ur talkin about with the ex71s but im not sure if thats wat its called

i only know how noise cancelling headphones work :D

since this is obviously kind of causing confusion

(because i suck at saying exactly wat im looking for... im usually too vague.....)

ill try and do the best i can to explain the kind of headphones im looking for

im looking for a pair of headphones that have good frequency response

good bass and treble that wont get distorted or start to make crackling sounds

id like them not to be too heavy since ill use them wen i run sometimes

id enjoy them being earbuds or behind the neck style but as long as it wont slip off its probably ok

id like them to be comfortable

id like them to be durable

and id enjoy a pair that doesnt allow too much noise in (i have a very loud, obnoxious little sister <_< ) or out (im allowed to wear headphones in some classes at school unless they are too loud)

hope that helps

and is not too vague

im bad at thinking.......
