Volume and Remote Backlight Option HACK for MZ-NH600 (may work on other models too (ie) MZ-NH700 – 800 – 900)

READ BOTH PART ONE AND PART TWO BEFORE YOU START

Part 1

Entering the service mode is possible by following these instructions:

Remove the MD if inserted and unplug earphones and or remote, close the lid.

Set the "HOLD" switch to ON.

While holding down the GROUP key, enter this key sequence:

>>| >>| |<< |<< >>| |<< >>| |<< | | | |

i.e. FF FF REW REW FF REW FF REW PAUSE PAUSE

RELEASE ALL KEYS.

If you have successfully entered service mode, the display will alternately display the firmware version in the left display and a screen with all LCD segments lit at about half second intervals.

That’s it!

Don’t change any settings unless you know what you are doing!!!!!!!!!!! Leave the service mode by removing the battery!!!

Part 2

First if you are stuck, just press stop several times until you get back to the service mode flashing

screen .

Here goes the sequence after the flashing service mode screen:

(Key | Display)

VOL+ | 0 Manual

FWD | 100 MT

FWD | 110 NV

FWD | 111 xxxSCC (xxx values counting up...)

FWD | 112 NoClock

FWD | 113 xxxS25 (xxx values counting up...)

Now to change the value after S just use VOL+ to increase and VOL- to decrease (in my case it was set as A0, so I just pressed VOL- until I read 25)

Press PAUSE to save

Then press stop till you get to the first menu, with

the flashing screen.

To quit the service mode, remove all the power sources from the unit. Remove battery and / or AC adaptor plug. Replace the battery and the unit should start as normal . On my unit with a RM-MC35ELK remote the Option menu on the remote now includes Backlight adjustments (Auto-On-Off).

For the NH600, NH600D:

Has anybody worked out how to get the software lineout, program play mode and a few other features hidden in the firmware that the rest of the first generation have? I've been trying to figure it out myself but going through all the registers is a nightmare.
