I have a Sony minidisc recorder, on which I record radio programmes from the internet. However, I think I have pressed something by mistake, and I think it is something to do with editing. when I record now, everything appears to be recording normaly, I can hear stuff going on the disc etc. But when I play it back I only get 20 minutes of play, then the sound goes. it doesnt switch off, and the display still seems active. I have gone through the editing process to try and remove whatever is there by mistake, but it just says sorry. i would be so gratefull if anyone can offer advice.

First try this , Take the disc out , then take the battery out , leave it for a day , let the memory battery drain , then try it again , this will be a process of elimination, if that doesnt work then there might be a play head cable issue.

Hello again. I did as you suggested, and then I recorded again from the internet. All seemed to be going well as the display window was telling me so, and I could hear the radio through the headphones BUT when I disconnected it from the recording source the display said BLANK DISC. So I am back to square 1. Linda

It appears the overwrite head is history, the unit is not repairable at an economical price.

Thanks to everyone. What I cant understand is, why is it so so easy to damage these things, I havnt dropped it or handled it roughly, all that happened is I pressed a button i shouldnt have done. this must have happened to many people. I really feel that I have been conned, by Sony. its like making a kids toy and then saying dont play with it as its too fragile. I am quite cross. Thanks again. linda

There is a small ribbon cable that connects the record head to the mainboard. This cable moves back and forth with the record head when it is in use. This cable eventually can develop breaks. I have heard of people fixing it for themselves but it would require some really good soldering skills, a steady hand and lots of patience. Keep in mind that unit was introduced in 2000.

Any chance you changed the REC mode and changed from LP2 or 4 or maybe mono and have two types of recording types going on a disk? my buddy did that and couldn't listen to half a disk in his player until he changed it back and re recorded

I was thinking this aswell, isn't there a "from here" and "from beginning" recording option that might account for OPs problem? eg. she put it into "from here" mode when there was ~20min recording time left.
