  1. Hi There Just caught your thread and all i can say is xp compatability mode is not as straightforward to run as it seems to appear. i had a similar problem that i experienced with my new laptop and wanted to operate net md etc. Here is a link that might help to shed more light #http://windows7news.com/2009/04/25/windows-xp-compatibility-mode/ i dont consider myself a total novice in the IT dept but I have struggled with this! I hit my brick wall when I discovered that my brand new laptop(win7 pro compaq presario) wouldn't support a virtual pc. There are ways of getting round this I believe but haven't been able to spend the time on it yet. If I were to think again about the situation and take hindsight into account, and running your mini disc set up is a necessity, I would be sorely tempted to get a machine that has full xp op system on it already and then everything would be a doddle! Or the other option is to stick with windows vista(32 bit) it runs net md and hi md beautifully, but as an operating system it is horribly slow to boot etc. For more detailed advice please read my thread as some experts have included their advice also. good luck !
  2. Dear All Many thanks again for the on-going interest in this thread. Lots of issues discussed i.e.virtual machines and xp comp mode etc Some great advice here and I'll keep posted of any developments trying to get my xp mode - minidisc up and running. ( haven't got the energy to deal with this just yet as am dealing with sons brand new ps3 slim 250g freezing in little big planet - when will these tech issues end???) Installing win7 pro with ss i had a few problems at first but just kept trying and after a few go's it did actually work i think in the end i plugged in my minidisc from boot up of windows. it now works perfectly in hi md As for using mz rh1 with pro audio devices, thanks again for advice given - i agree hi md isnt exactly music industry standard - however it is beautifully functional as an independent unit run through rca in connectors to any audio set up. it sounds beautiful through my rather modest 150w pa system, in actual fact it sounds better than my home hi fi system. i have just found out that there is a tascam 8 track recorder now available in hi md which is rather an exciting prospect. perhaps the subject of another thread... Merry Chrisitmas to all!
  3. An update- i have recovered my net md backing tracks and have backed them up in hi md mode, sonic stage managed this very well without loss of sound quality so i am very happy about this I used my old laptop( which is still in use - just) but now have the hi md tracks on my new laptop and I shall continue to use hi md in future. All my old mds can now be utilized in hi md mode so I am delighted. thanks again for all your support on this site. As for running a virtual pc on my new compaq presario laptop, thats something I will attend to when I can spare the time. as my issues with my md are sorted now as long as i run in hi md mode in future. Just for the record have run my backing tracks through a new pa system using my mz rh1 and the sound quality is excellent and I am reassured that i bought my mz for the right reasons!! It is an essential piece of kit for me, being a backing band and recording studio in one.
  4. Thanks again for the great advice i've been getting on this thread. I have been able to format my mds to hi md which is great - it was so easy dont know why I hadnt work it out before! The virtual pc issue i,m still working on and I will follow up your suggestions for this one.
  5. Hi thanks for the ongoing interest in my post and everyone's suggestions. Looking further down the virtual pc path I have discovered that my laptop doesnt support virtual pc (some crucial software is unavailable) for the record it is a compaq presario cq61 and I will be following thier forums with interest to see if anything becomes available to enable this facility. Until then I have to just use Himd for now or consider the dual boot option using a 32 bit os system to use the netmd option. there really is no great hardship in just using hi md, the annoying part is that I had a acquired a sizeable batch of 2nd hand md's and had hoped to put them to use, now I have had to order hi md discs as well. Also I had produced a number of important backing tracks in net md mode and cant now manage them on my pc!
  6. Hi Just to update i have managed now to get my mz hitched to win7 using sonic stage and in hi md mode. It took several attempts over a number of days... I dont know why this should be so perhaps someone has some suggestions? So I am quite happy now. Hopefully there wont be any further issues. I would have been really sad not to be able to use it, its my mini recording studio and backing band all in one. Thanks again for your help and advice.
  7. Thanks for your sage advice. I think I'll ditch my last idea (ive got in at the deep end) and try and upgrade win7 to a premium or some such other package that supports virtual xp. I suppose in the meantime if anyone else has issues with their mz rh1 I'd be pleased to hear from them
  8. discovered that my win7 is home premium so doesnt have the xp back up . however my mz rh1 did work on windows vista so decided to set up some space on hard drive to set up multi op system. Just working out how to do that now. However, my Vista automatically installs into some temp files and an error message comes up that there isnt enough space, I know that there is plenty of space in the hard disk partition I have set up but I am not able to direct the files to the correct location on my hard drive. Please can anyone help? I think i might have got out of my depth on this one!
  9. Thanks for such a quick reply. I've got some homework now!
  10. Hi everyone Just found this forum and it seems great. ive just discovered I might need a driver for my mz to run on windows 7(just got new lap top) or at least I think I do. Just downloaded a net md driver from the sony site but still had no luck running my mz from my lap top. Has anyone else had any successes with this issue that they could let me in on? needless to say sony customer care drew a blank as windows 7 and its a bit to new for them. I use both the hi md function and net md and my system is 64 bit windows home 7. Sonic stage 4.3 is installed and working correctly. Please Help!
