I wouldn't bother since the RM-MC38EL works perfectly and has a display on it too. In addition I checked the RM-MC25C (part of a so-called "car kit" for the NF610) works just fine with the NH700. YMMV.

I just merged these two topics as you appear to be asking the identical question. It could be moved to tips and tricks, but I really don't think you will get a better answer as a result. Somewhere there is probably an .INI file or a registry entry containing the level(s) for this setting. I had some similar silly problems with my ASUS HTPC based on the Intel ION chipset. The TOSlink volume was kindof random. I solved it by switching to HDMI out for most purposes, though I do occasionally plug in a USB-to-TOSlink converter. Ah! I know what's wrong. Turned out the TOSlink output was hardwired to 48kHz sample rate (standard is 44.1 for MD decks and the like). Maybe something else is causing the portables to fail to convert from 48 to 44.1. You will get decreased fidelity (from my limited experience), so perhaps it's better to buy something for the USB. Does your amp have an optical input? You could test it out with that. Stephen PS one more thing I assume you set the Audio Device to the proper output for Windows......

Very good question. I have sort of the opposite problem to you. I have an MZ-R50 that never had its own remote, and which I ended up using the modern RM-MC38EL (for MZRH1 and other units) which you can buy lots of at $10 a pop. I got rid of my stick-nonLCD remote for the NH700 and I know it works with most remotes, though the radio RM-MC37LT is the preferred one. So all in all the answer is "probably". The only obvious thing that doesn't work right on the R50 with the modern 38EL remote is the pause/play/jog lever. It plays and goes forward and back, but pushing as if to "pause" simply restarts the current track. The display looks fine. Hope this helps Stephen

What about the 4? That's a lower case on a QWERTY, but upper case (Shift) on a French? Also dates might be in french order (yyyy-mm-dd or some variation) instead of what you are expecting (dd-mm-yyyy, or for US mm-dd-yyyy).
-
Just off the top of my head, have you tried disambiguating the code? I have no idea if there are letters and numbers but the letter capital O often gets swapped with the number 0 and 6 often looks like lower case "b". Wonder if this might be related to the problems for Sony, reported in the press the last 2 weeks. I have never been FORCED to register any Sony product, and I seriously doubt that service would be refused if you kept your original purchase receipt showing date and place of purchase. If you bought cross-border, all bets are off because most likely the web site knows what country you are in. Another point, maybe you have a French Keyboard (after all you are in France). Did Sony mess up and include a character that isn't in the right place (ie assuming QWERTY when in fact you have AZERTY)??? (or vice-versa if you are a UK transplant!)

Yes. If it's W7/64bits you will need the NETMD760 driver package from our downloads section also.

I would appreciate a description in words of one syllable how to do exactly what you did - back up, import to new version of SS. I'm not sure I have ever done it this way, and people always seem to be asking. I can test it out and we can post with a sticky or in downloads. In particular I should like to know if all your files were already liberated from their encryption (File Conversion Tool). And whether the SS database structure was completely intact. I've definitely done this by creating copying the file structure to another machine or drive and then telling SS to import music files. However when I do that, there's always some scrambling of play order within albums as SS usually "knows best" when I had some non-obvious order that I dragged things into. Sounds like the Backup Tool ought to avoid that. Whilst we're on the subject, have you tried firing up M-Crew Server 2.5 and adding all your SS files to it? Takes about a day. Works ok but I really don't have anything that acts as a client to that server.

My advice is to turn off Automatic updates in W7. Sounds like something pushed out from MSFT is causing things to get trashed. But this is probably not a good long term strategy. Glad you got it working - but I have no idea why formatting a non-system drive should make a difference. Hmmm.. I know that when I had a (beta) W7 install the system did something special to the partition so you couldn't go back and access that partition from XP. So perhaps after you have been using W7 for a certain amount of time Microsoft sneakily reformats it in such a way that Sony's software gets confused. This would explain Dick(Hungerdunger)'s experience and yours too. Par-a-noi-a........

Go ahead and do that repair - you may be surprised. Something you installed over top has zapped your SonicStage.
-
Well this is all outside my experience, except to pass on the message from hungerdunger. Evidently something happened to your Windows install. I simply don't trust antivirus programs any more.
-
OK. Sure, copy them to that D: drive, and make sure you can play every single one when it gets there. As long as there's no ATRAC you're in good shape. Next, you need to delete all traces of Sonic Stage from your computer. This is probably harder than it sounds. One of our members, "hungerdunger" went through exactly this problem recently. He probably remembers what it was that triggered all this, but I am thinking he was running W64 (whereas you are using W32, correct?). Some questions: 1. do you have a firewall (the favourite seems to be Zone Alarm) installed? This may have prevented the database authentication because it wouldn't allow you to connect to the net. 2. Are you running as administrator? Or did you just start running from a non-admin account? I just looked through my notes from hungerdunger and it seems possible something happened to your Windows install, according to him, the following helped so that when he reinstalled Sonic Stage it was ok. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html However I would remove Sonic Stage FIRST. Make sure that the "OpenMG Secure Module" is gone from your list of programs (after SS removal), if not remove it by hand (ie click the remove button in control panel). After you complete the repair of Windows, suggest you install the "Ultimate Version" of Sonic Stage (in our downloads section) rather than anything directly from Sony. Avrin, our ex-technician supergenius, did a few tweaks to make our lives easier when he created this version, and it should install pretty much anywhere. But perhaps you did that already.... Hope this helps. Stephen

this thread is 5 years old.. are you surprised, or trying to spam us?

First, are these files really MP3s? I have noticed lately that people call them that regardless of the real file contents, just as in the UK a vacuum cleaner is referred to as a "Hoover". So if these files can not be played with a true MP3 player (not sonicstage), STOP RIGHT HERE. Thanks Stephen

First comment: this sequence of events only happened because you apparently have music that has DRM in it (encrypted by keys that are special to your install of Windows). Sony thinks you are trying to transfer something you don't have rights to. Hence the keyword "Authentication". There's an authentication server somewhere out there on the internet. I have no idea if it is still running, or (if not) whether it will come back tomorrow or the next day. (no matter that you probably did nothing wrong: we are just trying to get to the bottom of it). First question: can you survive if you put all the MP3's somewhere that Sonic Stage will not touch, completely delete SS, reinstall it (make sure you reboot before that), and reimport the files to SS?

Turns out you need at least ONE if you are going to do alignment of your own units.
-
Interesting. Not one I have tried - there was a DH710 in the local Sony Store before it closed, but the staff didn't even know what it was, and the price was way up there, so I didn't bite. I think the RH710 might have never surfaced here in N.America. Which *other* units have you tried, NJ? I think the 710 is the same generation as the 910/M10/M100 i.e. second generation. But if you look at the schematics there's an awful lot of stuff the same up until the RH1. I really like the sound of my RH910, but it has problems (unrelated to sound): a. there seem to have been an extraordinary proportion of these go out of alignment after a year or two. This is quite unusual for Sony's MD products. b. It won't record SP c. The MP3 playback (which replaced SP recording capability I think) is reputedly poor. I actually don't know since I haven't even tried to use MD units for MP3 myself. Stephen

The source of all wisdom these days is wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cloud_computing

Yes. Excellent. You can currently only play them back on Car headunit and a few Home Stereo models (very few). When I get back to it (moving house) am working on a decoder to allow to be played in the PC.

I prefer corned beef myself, if I am going to eat from a tin.

Philippe, no disrespect intended. I know you have a good heart, and a big MD fan. I just was a little surprised (and curious). I suppose we could move it out of the MD section. Best would be to post something about the 5CD/5MD. I don't *think* anyone made a multi-MD recording gadget (the MDX-66XLP clearly plays back!) with MDLP, so always curious. The D5C of course has 1MD, 5 CD's.

No worries. Suddenly everyone is calling us for Vaio help. Problem is, (Sony) Vaio is like (Honda) Civic, covers such a variety of sins that no one actually knows what is what. We do a fair amount of MD support here.
-
This is very strange, the third Sony Vaio post in 3 days and never seen anything like this before. What on earth is so dangerous about calling Sony Help?
-
Sure, but where's the MD in this? Regards Stephen
