    NWZ-S755 Service Menu

Disclaimer: I know nothing about the series you are messing with. The standard Sony way of setting a service menu value is to press the Pause (||) button after changing it. Is there a pause button on the unit?
  2. Seems to be a common problem with RH10 and RH910 about now. I have already fixed my own (after a year's struggle and eventually buying the right equipment) and am fixing one as a test. If the test succeeds I may charge at least until I have recovered cost of said equipment. But let me see how I get on with the one being sent to me, first. Analysis: the Overwrite laser power is set by using the alignment disk and there is no documented way to set it by hand. However it's possible to set it by careful measurement and backed up by calculation. So - basically the machine works fine until time to write the TOC.

    NH-14WM

I personally think the "real" Sony batteries are overpriced and that even the "fakes" most likely came from the same factory. Whether these are "seconds" remains to be debated..... Also I have found that how well you can charge a particular battery depends more on what is being used to charge it. In some cases there are (service manual) adjustments that make a huge difference to how this goes. So far my most dramatic improvement was with MZ-NF810. Some "external" chargers may do better than the MD unit, eg the GP charger. Before that I bought a charger which was itself a patently obvious fake and never did anything. Vapex and GP are both fine. Depends a lot on your unit. If you have an MZ-R91 you're laughing as these seem to really give an oomph to battery when charging. May be a coincidence but these and the MZ-NH3D (uses Li Ion LIP-4WM) are both made in Japan. Stephen
  4. Well done! Thanks for the info that the original Ultimate worked better for you, we will bear that in mind. You can't really mix the versions, as I *think* but am not sure, that the format changed at some point and the data is converted by the installation. Now you have it working, make sure you run that File Conversion Tool to get your files unlocked as soon as possible. Otherwise they vanish in a puff of smoke at the first sign of trouble.
  5. I've been embarrassed about this for a while. He's not the first by a long way
  6. Good point. If you happen to plug it into my receiver (an Onkyo) it generally tells you what it is receiving. There may be other ways you can find out, but looking at configuration for the unit might be a jolly good start.
  7. Quick question (this device has piqued my interested): is the connector to it the same size USB as to the MD portables (I don't know if it's B or C, but whatever.....)?
  8. Look forward to hearing from you, wherever you are
  9. Ah!!!! THAT is the problem. You are truly on the "bleeding edge", then. Should be minimal problems for RH1/M200 You need to read this thread.
  10. You talk in riddles my friend. Better look at my recent content to find the threads about RH10/RH910. Most likely a laser maladjustment. But to fix probably needs the specialist equipment which I have. IF the current test stands up (someone is sending me theirs) I will have to start charging for repair service. Stephen
  11. Sounds like the problem I have documented extensively. If Dover is in the UK, why not send to my friend Jim Hoggarth so he can practise his skills (tutored by me)? If I accept units from now on, I shall start charging. There seem to be a lot of them. Just to see if we are on the right lines: does this machine always READ disks that were previously "good". If so, sounds like the same ol' same ol' to me.
  12. You likely just need the driver pack, then. I thought it was included in SS Ultimate, though. Your problem is the lack of a driver for NetMD for your RH1 (or M200). The driver is called NETMD052.SYS and probably has NETMD052.INF and .CAT associated with it. Check back here if you can't find those. The driver is separate from HiMD on the same unit, which uses Mass Storage and a "simple" filesystem driver (mostly, anyway). PS I assume this is Vista/32 not /64?!?!?
  13. But you haven't told us the exact error. My guess is that for conversion to 4.3 you need to be connected to the internet, just as you mentioned in post #5. Trust me, you don't want to live with 3.3 much longer. But you will have to he online to get anywhere. And it seems you are online as we are having this conversation. However somewhere on here (search all posts by Avrin, and holler if you don't find it) there's a nice description of how to purge your machine of absolutely everything related to SS. Stephen
  14. 1. What "computer"? More to the point exactly what version of Windows are you running? 2. Have you ever transferred legacy MD's to the PC? 3. Have you installed Avrin's "Ultimate" version of Sonic Stage? If you are running W7/64 there's a whole different bunch of problems from if you are running XP. Also, if you have connected any other NetMD (anything at all previous to M200) to this PC there may be some cleanup to do. But that's after you got it working.
  15. Sorry, got the wrong name. BeSure (same original authors) is what you need.
  16. Yes the drivers are exactly responsible for solving both the problems you see. Tell us how you get on, and meanwhile, Good Luck! Stephen
  17. Ripping DVD for sound is relatively easy. You can forget all the complexities of the video. Look up BeSweet.
  18. I'm sorry, I am now lost. If you made CD's from SCMS they will be protected. Try copying the CD with Nero. That tends to remove protection anyway.
  19. It's not the recorder's fault. I have several DVD players that do NOT put out SCMS. BluRay and HD is ALL ABOUT DRM and restrictions, sorry. So the Bluray player will be (restricted). I think this is one reason for the push to HD. Suggest you get an amp with optical in and record from the analog out of that. OR practise DVD ripping properly. I can find you some refs and you can pirate away to hearts' content
  20. Too bad. I'd like to help if I can. I frequently send a bare MD to my aged papa from here to England and it costs about 2-3 bucks. Uploading it to digital form should be no problem for anyone with an RH1. If someone in UK with an RH1 is interested, maybe that person can upload from MD, and we can all share it. Otherwise I'm happy to volunteer to get it put in the site here. Stephen
  21. Although I am not in the market for this unit, it might be nice for you to reveal something about the power adapter(s) and cost of shipping, based on the fact you must be in Europe (since your price is in Euros). Those two things would probably dissuade the large N. American contingent here from bidding, I am thinking. Good luck with your sale! Stephen
  22. it's pinned here in the downloads section. You can copy it to CD and then install from there, methinks. The fact sonic stage won't recognize a file but WMP will play it means it's safe to "delete" from SS (don't "delete the music file from the computer") and reimport the oma file. DO NOT System Restore or reformat etc until you are quite sure that you have decrypted the files. Only way to test that... copy some and try to play on another machine that has SS.
  23. I'd be inclined to loosen (temporarily) the screw on the corner beneath where the battery comes out. As you're under warranty you lose nothing, I don't think they're going to void the warranty on that basis as those bottom screws usually become loose on a new unit (from my experience and those of others). I had an issue when I first tried to disassemble mine (i mean take it apart, not replace the battery) - there was a silly piece of black plastic from what I call the "siding" of the unit, that is very flimsy, is not needed, and had broken off. Eventually after panicking that I had bust it (it definitely broke as a result of my efforts), I simply put everything back without it. I'm thinking THIS is the piece that might be stuck someplace. HTH Stephen
  24. True but the Sony page I found has a version that is newer by 2 years or so.
  25. Oh boy! I didn't even have time to check out that software (the first link). It's labelled "update" but really, you can just install it. I did so. And I had nothing previously installed. Good luck! Stephen
