So unless I installed that it won't work? Unusually for you, the last post is not 100% clear to me. I can get this to work on a "virgin machine" with/without installing this Sony Content Transfer thingummajig?
-
That is what I am saying. HiMD is acting as a container for the LP2 format. The file is downloaded unchanged in bits from whatever form it is in on the PC's hard disc, created however (Sonicstage, or LP2 recording followed by MZ-RH1 upload). Of course on a 1GB disc you get a whopping 16 1/2 hrs LP2.
-
I mean you can store LP2 under HiMD. If you don't believe me, read the back page of the manual. You actually get much more on the same 80M disc in HiMD mode.... 4hr 50m instead of 2hr 20m, for LP2.
-
I think you guys may be talking at cross purposes. Yes you can transfer LP2 to HiMD. But if you want to play on NetMD player, you still need the drivers, which there is some rumour to be a problem with, in 64-bit. However there should be 32-bit compatibility mode even in Vista. I haven't tried this and YMMV. It's even possible it works in the NEWEST windows (version 7) but not Vista. 1kyle, thoughts?

Surely what you have to do is to use FFT to subtract out the background?

What???? It's an option, we will help u find it

Makes me wonder if the turning on wasnt something to do with IR. I had very annoying problems with cordless phones needing re-registering every few days and it is assuredly some other device with a remote that upsets it.
-
Before you get all tooled up suggest you try it with one file. I don't have any prediction whether it will work (by "work" I mean produce acceptable sound). There have been lots of things that I thought would be obvious that turned out not to be: I *assumed* that importing as PCM (highest bitrate), and then converting to ATRAC3 to put on whatever device, would work properly. Turns out, it doesn't. Your scheme, while sounding right in principle, is attempting to do something rather similar. Caveat Emptor!
-
Well: I ran it, and I am no further ahead. Some 1899 error from WMP. Tried removing and reinstalling both it and the atrac3.inf/acm separately and in combination. No dice, same error throughout. Makes me think something else is missing on that machine.
-
Don't sweat it - SS 4.x will remove any old installation files, I think. Ever since I discovered (for myself, never took anyone's word for this) that you cannot convert decently ATRAC3->MP3 or vice-versa I have avoided MP3 like the plague. And at comparable bit rates the ATRAC sounds so much better! I seriously think that you should consider NOT converting the files you have on MD.

Does 3.4 do *anything* with MP3's??? Shows how much I know, I almost don't use them (MP3) anyway.

The service manual for 510 is here which includes a slightly abbreviated form of the user manual. Certainly plenty of information

I think the biggest danger is if some bad guy ever manages to hack paypal
-
hehe we can swap spam lists
-
I went ahead anyway. Sometimes a new vendor (for example that guy selling EH1/EH70 at amazing prices) is just trying to establish credibility before raising the price
-
I have found that the quality of such remotes is variable at best. They may be rejects or off-the-back-of-lorry, or "factory leakage" - who knows? I would say go for it anyway at this price. I'm tempted myself. I had one that arrived (not from this vendor) with the hold switch not connected properly. Result - control inoperable without surgery. Surgery pretty well killed the patient. But I know others bought the same one, and was ok, so it's just luck. I suppose the only other thing to wonder about if deal is too good to be true - maybe this is a way of spamming your paypal address?
-
Before I run this install, would you mind giving us a list of what's going to get installed where? Thanks. For the reasons you can see, I think I might feel it's a good idea to know what ends up getting installed. Cheers

Tried this on a W2K machine that hasnt had Sony software before. Codec shows up in list. No play. Interesting - on the machines where it DOES play, the ATRAC codec doesnt show in the list.
-
You can certainly convert to WAV. However any attempt to compress those wave files will likely make a nasty mess. Specifically Atrac3 (MDLP) -> mp3 really doesn't work well at all in my experience. Perhaps someone else knows better..... I also, I think, suffered the reverse problem. A CD which I eventually guessed might have been made from MP3's wouldn't copy decently to ATRAC3.

The 480, it's much more recent: a. 510 spins the motor in record-pause mode and is known to fail as a result b. 480 has Type-S playback - indeed it plays back MDLP which feature is completely missing from the 510. However if you need digital (optical out) playback, then the 510 is your only choice unless you are willing to modify the 480 (there's a guide here somewhere). The manuals are all here, poke around, and keep asking questions, we will have you flying. Welcome to MDCF!

I'm guessing it's a simple oversight. Both this and AL are on the same server, and it's probably something about restarting IIS services (or the equivalent in Linux). added: I misspoke. I had the wrong address (for some reason I thought it was atraclife.org and it is .com). The board is "offline". This must have been done by one of the admins. It's there but no normal user can access it.
-
Interesting because it means that since SonicStage is effectively free for anyone to download, at least at the moment, you can play Atrac files on a computer with little problem. What makes me curious is that the AAL is apparently quite simply related to the more "mainstream" Atrac Codecs. This seems like a good thing esp. since it is never encrypted, apparently.

If you can get someone to bring it as luggage on a visit, that would be the trick. Many of the older decks have clearly defined tappings for 110 vs 220 volts on the transformer. Some even have a switch on the back. Worst case it might work on a stepup transformer (I bought one so my kids could use my train sets, and it's sitting under my feet as we speak). The strength of the 940 is the current-pulse DAC. The keyboard is also there on the 640. I actually prefer a deck with Type-S to play into my stereo, that extra edge makes the difference between listenable and not, for LP2. I keep the 640 next to my computer hooked bidirectionally with Optical (Toslink) and use the MXD-D400 over on the stand with all my analogue stereo gear. None of the units you so far considered except the 480, actually has Type-S, which is a playback-only technology.

Seem to be on the machine with no SS. But as you say, it works on Atrac3+ files too, decrypted ones. Funny thing, no sign of any Atrac Codecs, or knowledge by WMP. Where should I look? I did find a very few bits and pieces under Program Files\Sony A w2K machine with no history of SS, no go.
