  1. *bump* Any progress on this? Cheers N
  2. If I can help in any way - not sure how, as I am not that technical - let me know!
  3. I would most definitely! However, I have a feeling that this model is now so obsolete no-one will want to bother. It basically lost Sony's support the day it was released... b4stards!
  4. Any news - just interested on how you're getting on. Ready to throw in the towel yet?!! N
  5. Thanks for the update! Cheers N
  6. Any luck with this Mccourtyboy? N
  7. This is the best news I've heard on this forum... FACT! Very best of luck to you! N

Well mccourtyboy, We all wish you the best of luck here. I have been praying for some clever soul to create decent firmware for this device! You have your work cut out for you - Sony uses its own fantastically efficient - but proprietary - chipset. I have visited loads of forums and community sites on the web and so far have not found anyone else attempting to do this. I wish you every success with your task. N

Hi otiasj. Just tested fast track number save/load. This does not seem to work for me. Same 5 minute delay however many times I open and close Winamp. N

That's great! Can't wait to try the new speedy version.

Otiasj, Just tested that new plugin you sent me. Good news: It works! No outward error, but I did notice at the very end of the debug file the following lines appear: error could not read file header error could not read file header error could not read file header error could not read file header Bad news: It takes a long time to scan all my files. Admittedly I have a USB 1 connection here at work, but still! I timed Winamp from the moment I clicked the ML button to when my library opened. It took 4min 56sec. For your information, I have around 18GB of files on my device. That's 3,305 mp3 files. What extra info are you getting from the .oma files that you can't get from the .dat files? Cheers N

Great - look forward to it! Otiasj - one last thing. Since I have around 10GB of mp3s on my device, it takes a LONG time to scan my files. Does your plugin scan the device every time the ML is opened, or does it cache the info in some way for next time? Cheers for your continued hard work! N

Sorry - still crashing for me. After quite a wait while it scans all my files, Winamp crashes. Otiasj, I have emailed you my log and the files it is having a problem with. Let me know if I can give you any more info N

Otiasj, I think you've made the right decision there! Don't compromise by making your plugin backwards compatible with inferior Sony software. I'm guessing you're going to keep your own Winamp db somewhere containing all the extra information which the device doesn't store?!! Good luck with it all!

Otiasj, The track number doesn't seem to be a set thing in the db, since it changes depending on what you are playing at the time. To explain - When I use Album view on the device, and choose, say, the album "Guero" by Beck, the track number displayed for the tracks are relative to how many songs are in that album. So the song E-Pro would show 1/11. If I now choose Track view (which shows all tracks on the device in alphabetical order) and then play E-Pro again, the track number has changed to something like 347/4128. So the track number is dynamic on the playing context. So perhaps you don't need to get a track number, you need to see in Winamp what the user is playing in the current playlist, and calculate the track number from that. Cheers

From what I've heard, files transferred over using mp3fm cannot be "read" by SS, and vice versa. So they are incompatible. Perhaps someone can correct me if I'm wrong - since I've only ever used SS for 10 minutes before uninstalling it from my machine...! Cheers N

OK Stuge, That was the only test I wanted you to do. This proves that the crash is caused by the plugin reading the files, rather than the plugin reading the db information. So you have the same prob as me. When Otiasj resumes work, this info will help him fix the plugin hopefully. In the meantime, I'm afraid you'll just have to hold on for a fix! Cheers

Otiasj, I have emailed you all the files you requested with a few comments. Sleep well! N

Kind of good news, Otiasj - If I move all the OMA files, Winamp does not exit, and shows all the db info on the device. So you are right - it is something about reading the tracks, rather than the db. Send me the patch and we can debug together. Cheers! N Stuge - you might want to try moving the subdirectories of the OMGAUDIO folder temporarily. If the plugin does not then crash for you, then you are having the same problem as me. Then at least we know that this is your problem, and not something else.

Well...my Winamp still crashes Maybe my db is corrupted, I dunno! Anybody know if there is there some way I can rebuild my dat files without having to transfer over all my music again? Cheers N Edit: Using a fresh OMGAUDIO directory, everything works fine! I cannot wait until I can play stuff in Winamp! So perhaps I'll just spend tonight transferring everything over...!

Sorry Bergmarmot, My comments were aimed at Otiasj!... Anyway. I still think the best solution would be to find an electronics genius to reverse engineer the NW-HD5 so we can put Rockbox firmware on it or something!...

Interesting Bergmarmot. Seems like the type of encoding you do locks down which software you can use to decode the tracks. Imagine my surprise that Sony would do this. You might want to chat with Xispe - he may have some suggestions...? Cheers N

Hi Otiasj, I'm afraid Winamp still crashes when I try to click on my NW-HD5 in the Media Library. Perhaps this is an incompatibility thing with MP3FM, the sw I use to transfer files. I remember that files tranferred over with MP3FM cannot be "viewed" in SS, so maybe your plugin is compatible with SS transferred files only? I have about 20GB of music on my device, so I don't really want to start from scratch. However, if you don't think you can fix the compatibility probs, I will create a fresh OMGAUDIO dir (I have done this previously, and your plugin worked ok). Create some more debug msgs in the plugin, and let's track down this issue! I'll send you my dat files by email, they might be useful for you. N
