What is Sony thinking with the changing designs?
mercury_in_flames replied to lamewing's question in Audio
funnily enough, so have I ascariss, I went to a sony store and checked them out . I am exaggerating with how bad the fingerprint are, i know , but its just that the device doesnt stay spotless that kinda bugs me. I dont really want to feel like i want to wipe it all the time, i do enough of that when getting dust that settles on my (brushed aluminium) hifi system, off. and enough meaning once a week. Not every time i take it out of my pocket, like i fear i would want to do if i got one of these. -
speaking of himd, might've asking this already, but are you going to get yourself one of the himd onkyo decks?
-
doh, i missed it. hope it was a good one.

I think thats a bit dodgy really, how many songs?? A new one should only have 2 songs on it, the hd5 comes with two songs on it out of the box. I would get them to give me a replacement. What colour is it? If the hd5 has still got its protective plastic clear screen protectors on the screen and buttons, and the buttons are still ok, then you could keep it, but I wouldnt, I'd want a fresh one

What is Sony thinking with the changing designs?

haha, well you could say sony is floundering a bit i its design dept. switching looks really drastically, or that they are being innovative. I never aggreed with the price sony put on the oled screens feature, or the fingerprint thing. I always felt metal = durability, and plastic = cheap. The only thing that stopped me from getting an nh1 was the tiny screen and weird plastic edge to it, the slow write speeds of course, and the talk of mp3's sounding worse when transfered 'as is'. o well. -

dude u actually bothered, even after s.s didnt work on virtual pc? just get a shyte windows comp and be done with it. Ive got a pentium 3, 256 ram, comp and it may be slower than my P4 2.8ghz, 512 ram, but it beats not having my hd5 at all. -
ive got the prblem when i dont have repeat mode on, the album just starts playing again from the start anyway. I do have unit mode on, so I'm not sure. It doesnt really bother me that much.

scuse my ignorance, but if its a data cd, cant you just click, 'file' then import 'music files' and then choose the tracks u want to import?

mercury_in_flames replied to Dinko's question in Audio
true, i aggree with you there. It might be that they want the device to sound more unique>? -
this wasnt a dvd 'walkman' but it was a dvd player and cd writer i think, it was basically a portable cd/dvd rom drive, that looked like a cd walkman, It featured the rm-mc11el. ring any bells? here it is: model: MPD-AP20U it had a usb connector for connecting to a pc, but worked as an mp3 player etc:

NW-A3000 + Connect Player Impressions

what are your computer specs?? -
how can you actually return them if you've taken them out of the packaging and tried them? Do you really get that much more of an idea from seeing them through the package compared to seeing them on the internet, to the point you are willing to pay more? I suppose you dont really save that much in your case, But for my rm-mc40elk remote, the sony shops in the uk were selling it for 100 pounds or 150 us dollars, i got it from audiocubes, com for a lot less.
-
Well i wont bother with a pic, but will just say that the one i have is excellent as long as i keep my original felt case that came with my hd5 on when it put it in the case, that wat its nice n snug.
-
got back late, will do a pic tomorow[i/] -greg
-
no, i will do a pic of my hd5 in it tomorow.

Do other dap's freeze when there is too much shock (running mountain biking etc)?? My hd5 freezes if theres too much shock (it happened once when i was mountain biking) and i just remove/reinsert the battery and its all good again. I dunno if this is a good thing, but it beats the dap's hard disk crashing.

Cool review. What are the 'start-up' speeds like? A friend of mine had the D-NE511, which i thought sounded a joke and was a snail when it came to actually getting started. I am of course comparing their speed to minidisc start up speeds, redbook cd players and my hd5.

Sony isnt going to change overnight. People buy sony because they want something that says sony, and they want the styling. People know sony products by how they look, not by their names. Most people who want to have the 'look at me' effect will go straight off and get an ipod. Funnily enough, people think that those who buy anything other than ipod, buy it because they cant afford it lol.
-
lol, if they dont kick ass with the ps3 they are dead pretty much.
-
Just remove the two on the back, do NOT remove the serial number one. To get rid of any sticky residue, just get a damo cloth with a bit (i mean a tiny bit) of dish washing liquid (i.e fairy) and it shud get it off, obviously make sure the cloth is only damp cus u wudnt want any water going into ur hd5.
-
To each his own. Some like 'flat' sound that is 'close the original', others like their music sounding well, not like that. As this is a mostly sony owners place,, Do they notice the ipod has a pointless e.q or do their headphone amp's actually make use of the e.q?

Black NW-HD5 Pictorial
mercury_in_flames replied to mercury_in_flames's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
I really wanted to get some shots of the screen with the inverted view, i.e with white background and black lettering as it is a lot brighter and the text is a little easier to read when scrolling, but i couldnt get to the pictures to come out clear. If i succeed I will add them later. For now though, heres a link to a few piccies of the infamous rm-mc40elk (also my pics): http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=12853 Well, here are the pics of the unit with the inverted option: Clearer and brighter, but no doubt will eat the battery life faster. -
Take a look:
