Welcome to AtracLife! I extracted the Image Converter software from my CD, and uploaded it to a site for you (it is a RAR file), and anyone else who may need it. (The file is hosted for 60 days, so get it now!) http://www.zshare.net/download/692442700d395a/ Hope it works. If not, there's plenty of other software you can use. Since I don't like plugging in my 808 while Image Converter is converting videos, I use a program called WinAVI MP4 Converter, which works great for me (some other programs have audio sync issues). And for YouTube clips/ FLV videos, there's a good one called FLV to AVI MPEG WMV 3GP MP4 Ipod Converter. Hope this helps.

Check your inbox, I just PMed you with a link. Hope this helps.

Another great program out there is WinAVI MP4 Converter. It lets you encode for PSP, iPods (works for A8xx models), and has plenty of encoding options.

If all the songs will contain the same image art, you could do this: Go to All Tracks View, then select the songs that are in that CD, right-click, and go to Properties. Tick the 'Compilations' Tab, then go back to Album View, they should now appear as an "individual" album. Now you can attach your art to all the songs in that album. For songs already on your player, I don't think there's a way, so you would have to delete that song, and reupload it with the album art. Hope this helps.

With my NW-A808, SonicStage doesn't always pick up the release year when I import mp3s that I tagged. I know most of you NWZ-A81X users hate Sonicstage, but if it's already on your computer, have you tried setting just the release year within Sonicstage and seeing if it also shows up on your player?

Ouch, I completely forgot about that. According to the A810 manual it states: "To delete songs from the player, use the software you used to transfer the songs, or Windows Explorer." With the A800 series, you just delete the songs into the Trash Bin, and when you load up Sonicstage it deletes the songs from the player first, before you can do anything else. Sadly I can't use the Trash Bin because I turned off the 'Intelligent Features' in Sonicstage. But it can't be that difficult to go into Explorer and deleting the songs from there right? @sharklover: Really? ATRAC 64kbps? I got tired of waiting to convert all the time, and since I now have 8GB of capacity, I don't need to do that anymore

I say expect a price drop for the new A810 series in Canada (they just brought down the A810 prices in America to match the Nanos). I guess another difference would be not having the 'Ratings' in the new one (someone correct me if I'm wrong), and from pictures I've seen, the main menu icons look bigger and have some blue gradient background at the bottom. Oh yeah, you can use the A810 series on Mac and Linux. Check out aznbro85's review here. Basically it's the same player, just with WMP11/drag and drop, and no more ATRAC/Sonicstage. Sony's planning on releasing a compatibility update for the older A800s to support WMP11/drag and drop, so who knows. I spent $300CDN for my A808, so I wonder how low the price is going to go before they sell them all. (No word yet as to whether there will be a 8GB A810 player in Canada)

Wow great review aznbro85! Now I really wish there'd be a firmware update for us A800 users

Hey pata, I went to the source code page you mentioned, very interesting (even though I'm not sure what it is) and I noticed there's a source code for this: NW-A808,NW-A808/S,NW-A806,NW-A805 update (20070829) Now, do you think this could mean there might be a firmware update (looking at the date)? Interesting find!

Image Converter isn't the best software out there. I couldn't encode any .mov files. It sometimes works (good for xvid), it sometimes doesn't. I would suggest to make sure you have the proper codecs, or use other software that encodes to an iPod compatible .mp4 (eg. Xilisoft Video Converter is what I use) and it should be playable on your A806. Hope this helps.

Looks awesome. I still don't know what it is lol

If you look closely at the box for the NWZ-S61x series, I think it says 1.8 inch screen, but people are confusing it for 18 hours of video playback. These new players look good though, hopefully I won't have buyer's remorse with my A808 Also, they took out the clock from the main menu, and I'm guessing they replaced it with some folder view. The photos can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/5th_avenue/

On the bright side, they might go down in price

There are maybe two places this video file might be in. Go to My Computer > Go into your mp3 player > from here the video might be in... 1) a folder called MP_ROOT > 100ANV01 (or something along those lines) (This folder is where all the converted video files you make in Image Converter go in) 2) a folder called VIDEO (this is where you can drag and drop compatible videos in)
-
Did you use Image Converter? If you did, open Image Converter and I believe you should be able to delete it off the player. If you can't, go into the WALKMAN (whatever drive letter) in My Computer, go into the folder MP_ROOT, and then into the folder 100ANV01, and delete the file from there. Please reply back if this works or not.

Hi Jostian, welcome to AtracLife. I haven't had great experiences with Image Converter, however I was able to convert an xvid video (some tv show), however there was no sound when I played it. Do you have any codec packs installed? If you do, you should probably get rid of them and just install the ones you need to use (DivX, XviD, etc.). I'm not really sure why it says it wouldn't support it, when you can play the file on your computer... Maybe you need to update your codecs? Another thing you could do is install/download any other software that converts to .mp4 that an ipod video supports. A decent one that I use is Xilisoft Video Converter. Good luck.

For some odd reason, this player intrigues me... So I went on youtube and searched for sony rolly, and I guess sony uploaded all those youtube-like videos (probably from their eyevio site) with little descriptive keywords, and apparently greetings about the new player. So I wrote them all down for all us fanboys/girls to speculate, or we could wait till September 10. Alright so here's the list: free style, communication, open, motion, small, circle shape, kuru kuru, share music, shuffle, peace, scratch, music note, abstraction, lucky, chill, love, future, Hey!, Yum!, sweet, groovin', art, Ciao!, dream, ca va?, life, beat, funk, minimal, fusion, roll, hi!, OH!, LOOK, !, spin, loud, ?, enjoy, wow, family, DANCE, nyao, smile What does everyone think? We know it's egg-shaped, and has integrated speakers. But words like 'communication' and 'share music' might suggest WiFi or bluetooth? What's up with the Hi! Ciao! Ca va? LOOK! OH! ??? Maybe it has voice-recording? I can't wait. At least this time Sony gave one of their DAPs a name for a change, as quirky as it sounds.

When I said embed, I meant the program (SS?, iTunes, Tag&Rename) attaching a picture (jpeg) to the id3 tag information of the mp3. It's just that some iTunes Podcasts I download use a PNG format for their album art, and I don't think SS supports PNG formats. (Correct me if I'm wrong) It does, but I didn't have the album art for some songs (I expected the player to show no cover when I played these songs), and when I listened to the songs on the player, with Compilations checked, they had the album art for the first track of the album. So unless you have covers for all the artists of the album, it shouldn't be a problem. (Remember I'm picky lol, and the compilations is just an organization thing anyways) Sorry for confusing everyone

This doesn't answer anyone's questions here, but I just wanted to let you guys know how I apply album art, and some things I've noticed. 1) always embed the album art, and make sure it is a jpeg file. I used to use itunes, because it lets me copy pictures (from amazon or photoshop) and paste it in the album art window, without having to save as a jpeg file, then adding it later. DO NOT DO THIS, because itunes creates a png file, with some .itc (itunes cover?) extension, which sonicstage can recognize (since it is a PNG format), but it doesn't show up on the player. 2) you can't update the covers on the player, unless you delete the track off the player first, then retransferring the song with the cover. 3) if you have a various cd with multiple artists, and you have a different cover for each song, make sure you DO NOT TICK COMPILATIONS, because it messes up the cover art in the player. For example, some of these songs I didn't have a cover for, and on the player it has the cover for the first track, when it should have had no cover. So yes, it should be able to show different album art in the same album, as long as it is not a "Compilation" Unfortunately, I don't think there's really a quick and easy way of getting album art. I'm really picky with my album art, so I usually photoshop all the covers I save to get rid of the white borders, make sure it is 250x250px, high quality, etc. I can't really help you with SS and the get info because I don't use that. I usually use this program called Tag&Rename, which does a good job tagging and embedding album art easily. LuLu, have you tried adding the cover art through itunes? Is it a jpeg file? To be honest, I really don't trust SonicStage as a tagging program, so I use other ones to tag my songs.

I have the E-405 which looks the same, but I can view "Groups" in Sonicstage. Check out this post, I think this is what you're talking about. Good luck. Edit: I'm not positive if it will work with newer versions of Sonicstage, as the fix is listed to work with Sonicstage 4.0.

Good thing I transferred the demo songs to my computer before I deleted them The song is called Secrets In Mirrors by Spitalfield, from the album Better Than Knowing Where You Are. To save you the trouble of finding it, I uploaded it to megaupload, so here's the link. Hope this helps in your decision. If you need the other songs, just send me a PM or something. Here's the link: megaupload

1. I think you'll need Microsoft AppLocale if you want to transfer Korean songs. This is because SonicStage doesn't support Unicode, yet. Check this thread here. You can also set the player language to Korean if you want. I've transferred Korean songs before, so I know this should work. 2. From what I've read on other threads the volume limit is gone (correct me if I'm wrong). 3. In Image Converter software, you can set the bitrate to 768kbps or 384kbps, so I think it all depends on how long the movie is. A 40 min. episode is around 300mb (or around there at 768kbps). Image Converter also lets you "Divide the video into segments of the specified length" (5 min. to 390 min.). It is just a 2 inch screen, so you probably don't want to watch too many videos on this. 4. It's decent. When the video is playing, you can RW/FF in 1x, 2x, and 3x speeds. It's much faster if you pause the video, then RW/FF. So yeah, it displays Korean song titles fine, but you have to get SonicStage to display it first, then you'll be fine. If you do plan on getting this player, I'd recommend downloading SonicStage, AppLocale, follow the tutorial I mentioned above, and see if the Korean characters display in SonicStage. If it does, then it should definitely work on the player. Hope this helps.

I've used this program called Xilisoft Video Converter (I had issues with Image Converter). I just selected the presets for converting to "iPod MPEG-4 Movie (.mp4)" and just changed some things like bitrate to 768, changed the audio bitrate, etc. Hope this helps.

To activate AVLS, go to Settings > Common Settings > AVLS (Volume Limit) > On. Sorry juli, I think I just misread your post, I just thought you were putting the player in wrong. When I read "docking the volume buttons" in the instructions, I took it as when you place the player into the BACK part of the case, you don't just push it into the case straight down, but rather hold the player at 45 degrees, letting the volume button on the player and the volume buttons on the case to touch, then drop the other side of the player into the case. Sorry about that
-
For one thing, you should turn on AVLS as a safety precaution, unless you usually listen to music higher than that (?) The instructions for the hard case says to slide the walkman "docking the VOLUME buttons." Hope this helps.
