  1. maxthrusters : as it has been said on this forum the EU sound limit cannot be deactivated on NWZ-81x using service mode (I tried). This time Sony used a hardware limitation The trick works with previous models, I even used it on my MD/HiMD units but NWZ-81x is nom immune. The only way to get a higher sound level is to use an efficient headset.
  2. No the sound limit seems to be hardware, changing the firmware will not help... Et c'est bien dommage d'ailleurs
  3. hi, I just received a new headset for my psp : Audio-Technica ATH-ES7. They really rock ! Great looks and great sound. They go very well with the PSP as they offer a very decent isolation and good sound pressure. Even in the subway I don't have to push psp to the max (listening to rock, classical or jazz) to get a decent sound level and max sound will hurt my ears. So fellow PSP users, ATH-ES7 will probably make you happy Ps: I used to have a pair of ATH-SJ5. Although a lot cheaper they do not match ES7 for sound isolation, power and quality. I paid 100€ to get them from Japan (50% cheaper that getting them in France !!!) but I'm happy. PS2: Sound quality is really excellent, very detailed, rich natural sound.

    HD digital amp

They haven't advertised such a thing. I do agree that MZ-NH1 sounds better than A81x. I just sold my NH1 and own an A816. I guess Sony put a cheaper audio circuit on their latest models. units such as NH1 are high quality stuff compared to the flash player line.
  5. You will hear your music, I do this with my A818. It won't break your stereo. No clue about the bluetooth, sorry.
  6. firebird : where are you from ? Volume should go up to 30. Even my capped model goes up to 30. Have you checked all the settings ? Try to reset stock settings, maybe it will help.
  7. Don't expect anything from firmware updates. The only way to get lineout is to buy a docking station from Sony. You can still connect your stereo to the earphones plug and set the sound to max. You probably won't be able to get a wm-port plug unless you take a wm-port cable apart.
  8. Stuge : although I wouldn't want to attach another piece of equipment to my (bulky enough) psp, do you have any recommandation for budget portable amps ? they all seem to cost the price of a new DAP ! I don't know about the psp s&l but I would say it has the same low volume output as the fat psp. Has anyone around here been able to compare ?
  9. I too agrees with the MD like sound quality. The great downside is the low volume output. This is usual for Sony players, I was able to unlock the "spset" of my former HiMD player but afaik it is not possible for PSP. Even with in ear earphone it is somtimes too low if you want to listen to classical music outside or in the train/metro. I am still looking for a good pair of closed headphones (I'll probably get the Audio Technica ATH-ES7). I second the comment about using MD remotes. The psp remote is too minimalistic. A screen would be great to use the PSP as an audio player.
  10. There is no crack yet but I found that the service manual of the A82x series that just came out also wowrks for A81x series. You can access the test menu and see that european versions (or at least my french model) are volume limited (spset : on). Unfortunately there is no way in the test menu to change that setting. in order to get to test mode : 1. Turn the power on. 2. Press the [bACK] key for 1.5 seconds or more, the home menu is displayed. 3. Slide the [HOLD] key to set the hold on. 4. While pressing the [OPTION] key, press the key as following order. → → [D] → [D] → [R] → [L] → → [D] → → [D] → [R] → [Play] 5. The set reboots when the [HOLD] key is slided to set the hold off, and the color bar is displayed in the liquid crystal display. 6. Enter the test mode when the [bACK] key is pressed in the state of step 5. Note: The destination setting and sound pressure regulation setting cannot be executed by this test mode.
