Not meaning to disgree with you here, but isn't type R an encoding method whereas type S is a decoding method? Any unit labeled with type S also included type R. I always thought type S worked on all MDLP playback, even if recorded on older MDLP units. In other words, LP2 recordings made on my Sharp DR7 benefitted from this feature when played back on my EH930. Type R SP recordings had to be performed on a unit to use that feature.

Agreed on the quality of the SR125, but hard to drive with the typical MD unit weedy amp. The Ultimate Ears offerings are very good if you have a thick wallet. If not, there is always the trusty Koss Portapros or Senn PX-100's...

Thanks, Tommy. I didn't see this until after I sent you a regular e-mail. I wasn't able to open up your PM either. I guess it is a problem on my end. It kind of coincides with some error messages I started to get upon startup. Kind of funny that it only prevents access to the T-station site. I have no problem getting here...

I was just wondering if any problems are occuring at the other board. I frequent both sites, as many here do, and haven't been able to get on for over two days...

Hi-MD 352 kbps is great and I import almost all my CD's into Sonicstage at that codec. The tradeoff is that you'll be recharging your batteries more often as the higher the bit rate, the more power consumed. I've actually gone back to using standard SP (292 kbps) more often...

Since you're in the states, this one at Minidisco isn't too bad considering most other places want close to $400 for the MZM200...

I don't know if they are still making them, but they are certainly still selling the JE480 at Sonystyle.com.

Not sure which titles you bought, but I have all of Diana Krall's SACD albums, two Miles Davis ones, Pink Floyd's DSOTM and and a few others. All of these went into My Library on Sonicstage and were transferred to Hi-MD with no problem. FWIW, I have them saved at 352 kbps....

I was wondering that myself. I'm obviously no computer expert here, but shouldn't Vista be backwards compatible to everything that worked on XP?

Walmarts in the U.S. had a fire sale on blanks a couple of years ago as did Sears. Not sure where the poster lives, but the Guitar Center still carries 5 pack TDK 80's and Sony 1 gig Hi-MD's. But you may want to call ahead to see if they are in stock...

Are those refurbished machines? The EH930 looks sweet. I wouldn't mind getting a backup to the one I have...

I'm having trouble downloading the Sharp drivers so I can use my IMDR80 on my other computer. I keep getting a message that the MDCF 'Cannot find the file". Is it no longer available?

OK, OK... I guess obsolete was kind of harsh. I was just referring to the fact that you could use a Hi-MD recorder and mic for quite a bit less and fit a whole semester's worth of lectures on a single disc if need be. You've got me on the deck, though, unless you're one of the select few Onkyo owners out there...

I actually know of a local store here in central NJ that has a few of those in a display case. Can't remember what the price was, but they still had them as of two weeks ago. It never really interested me because of the high price and what it was designed for (business recording). With the intro of Hi-MD and even longer recording capabilties, this unit was rendered kind of obsolete...

I think it was significant because many inadvertantly recorded over existing tracks they wanted.

I wonder if there would be any loss in sound quality? It would be nice to take the few wma files I've got and convert them to atrac..

I got interested in a group called The Ditty Bops a year or so back after hearing about them from someone on that other board as well. Silly name, but some pretty cute and technically beautiful harmonies.

It is the RH1. I think when that was written about the R50 it was probably true. I doubt whether the equipment forum was ever updated or changed much.

That's a great template. But, at the risk of sounding stupid , how do you rotate the pattern to enter text/graphics the correct way?

Actually, I've never had a problem with the plastic shuttered MD's made by Maxell. On the other hand, some metal shuttered MD's made by companies such Memorex sometimes get easily bent or off track...

What's the name of the store? If it is a chain, I wonder if they have any in the metro NY area? I can only hope...

That's not a bad deal considering it included shipping. Best price I've ever seen for 80 minute blanks was the Sony 5 pack 80 minute Colors going for $1.97 at Sears. You may want to check it out next time you're near one. These were reduced some time ago, however, and may not be available. Some blanks are collectables and can bring pretty good prices on eBay...

I prefer the plastic Plano cases which minidiscaccess used to sell, but I don't see them on their site any longer. Originally designed for fishing gear, you could store around 135 discs each in a watertight environment. If you are in the habit of using those skinny stickers to label the ends of the discs, these are perfect. I had discovered that K-mart was selling these at about half of what minidiscaccess was, around $4.99 each. I believe you can still find them in their fishing equipment/tackle box section.

I don't really see this as anything new or unusual for Sony. After all, they did start making VHS recorders after their Beta ones waned in the early 90's...

Wow, Ray, which stores did you see them in?
