EHEHEHEHHE! WELCOME TO THE REAL WORLD MY FRIEND... i'm next!

this one of those sony stupid things... MD is all about recording and live recording, why didn't they include the recording levels indication in the remote!?

SS2.2 crashes all the time when converting files. was ok
xispe replied to dave_bass5's topic in Minidisc
both hi-md and Sonicstage software are some nice pieces of crap... -
he said something like this: In case you don't get any answer, buy gold plated oxigen free cables, since they are better than the standard cables.
-
i think the best solution for you is to return the player to the shop, really...

The conversion to atrac is killing me... Now i am converting all my mp3 library to ATRAC3Plus 256 kbps (1 day and still converting...) After the pleasent and convinent step, I am noticing a slighty loss of quality, due to the conversion process. It's nice when that happens with mp3s at 192 kbps, since i start dealing with an ATRAC file that is larger than the original mp3 and have worst quality. Since the files get larger, the transfer process to the minidisc even takes longer. IT WOULD BE SO NICE IF I COULD SEND MP3 FILES DIRECTLY TO THE MINIDISC... Like this, hi-md could be a ipod killer... i don't want to convert everything. I am sad with my nh700 because of this... Besides this, it has all the nice features of a minidisc player, like the ability to record from everything, without being close to the computer, the 1gb disc (still only one...) and the reformated discs to 290 mb, that can fit a lot of music inside of them. let's hope to see what happens in the next months with the new sony look over mp3... if have my doubts that the existing hi-mds will support mp3.
-
yep! the music content is fully protected inside a huge HMA file! IT'S SO CONVINIENT ISN'T IT!? ahahhahaha!
-
i have to say that i don't like much this 5 way control... many times i just want to raise the volume, and when i'm not looking at the unit, i end up to changing the track back or forth... oh damn. I didn't had such problems with my mz-r70
-
yep i agree with you! hi-md sucks completely! sell it!
-
i have my doubts if that will ever be possible... a minidisc playing mp3... i would like it, since almost all my music comes from mp3 and i have to reencode everything in atrac, but i still don't beleive that current players in the future will allow that.
-
it's the same process as SonicStage does... nothing quick in here... where did you heard of that wrapping ? is it possible ?
-
probably this is the awaited mp3 software upgrade! It's a nice ideia, but the conversion still needs to be done, are it still takes time... and i don't like much the ideia of having duplicates of all my mp3s in my harddrive in form of atrac3plus files...
-
it seems that sonic stage downloads the track entirely to the computer in the beginning of the track.. then the player rewinds it's optical pickup to the start position, and everytime there's the need to load the next track it has to reposition the pickup to the track position, and it is not done instantly  The solution: pick up the next track before the current one ends.. 5 or 10 seconds before would be just nice. Its a software issue that is easely solved... let's wait for the next version
-
wow! THAT LOOKS VERY COOL!
-
the disc would need to be formatted in Hi-MD mode for uploading... since it was recorder with a std. NetMD unit the disc isn't in that mode
-
i am using sonic stage 2.2 and i can't play back the tracks in my hi-md without skipping. The skipping occurs every time the tracks change And it takes about 2 seconds... anyone with the same problem, or is this another "feature" of sonicstage :wacky:
-
  reading this topic i had a "Sony thinking" here it goes... probably this will show up in some press-conference in the future: "To add the possibility of mp3 playback in Hi-MD devices, our wonderful sonicstage software will provide playing back and upload capabilities of mp3 files. These mp3 files will be stored in the Hi-MD disc, but they will ONLY play via sonicstage. For standalone playing the user will still have to convert everything to our ATRAC3Plus codec...". This is a software update! and it adds the mp3 playing back to Hi-MD!  THIS WOULD BE AWESOME! :wacky: :wacky:   I can't wait to see something like this!
-
"Sony not only plans to release new devices; it is working to make available software that will let owners of current models upgrade their devices to add native MP3 support, European sources said." -> probably we're gonna have another version of sonic stage that hides the conversion process from the user! simulating the transfer process... ahahah!
-
ahahah! I was already an annoyed Hi-MD owner even before reading these news! oh damn it... (better to send my nh700 back to the store)
-
it would interesting if someone would try to look inside that huge and ugly HMA file, for pieces of OMA files... This would solve that problem... And would lead us to even a better thing... upload files without using sonic stage.. (ok, i'm dreaming, over and out!)

Upload recordings to a .wav onto pc faster than realtime.
xispe replied to marcnet's topic in Hi-MD Renderer Forum
back to DOS. I have to say that DOS rules!! -
not charging over the USB is way to stupid... if the unit it self can work using the USB for transfering audio, why not also charge ? It's wayyy to stupid to be true! It's like my girlfriends sony camera... it has batteries, and for downloading the pictures to the computer using the USB cable, it needs the bateries to supply power.. AND WORST, the camera doesn't came with any AC Adaptor! One day the bateries were out, and she had to take the batteries out, charge them, and after 12 hours she finally downloaded the pictures to the computer What the heck!? check this thread: http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=5121 I am using it with my new NH700.

Upload recordings to a .wav onto pc faster than realtime.
xispe replied to marcnet's topic in Hi-MD Renderer Forum
allright! very nice. I've tried it out and it seems to work -
I've read that the recording speed is about 450 kb/second. It's slow, but it's nice, because with a standard md you'll have 270 mb of disk space, and 1gb with the new discs. i think the reading speed is the same, but i'm not sure (at least seems it's the same). To upload 1 gb... i don't know, i took around 20 minuts to upload a 200 mb file to a std-md.

oh damn! i'm so happy! after realising the crap of the conversion to ATRAC in sonicstage, i'm back to realtime recordings! i have a std md (just sp) headunit i my car, and the process of saving an mp3 to a std md using sonic stage, it's way to stupid! i mean it! it's truly heavly stupid! let's see... - convert mp3 to lp2 (lp2 sucks...) - then the player reencodes the lp2 audio in SP (great ideia!) the reencoding is almost kind of realtime... ( i only get 2x the speed, sometimes) and the results are bad, BAD, BAD, BAD. I can't beleive how did an engennier was able to do such thing... i think the guys at sony were drunk or something. Now! let's talk about the great features of Hi-MD! - the Hi-SP modes and Hi-LP modes just suck... the sound quality is low. I think Hi-SP is even worst than most of the mp3 at 192 kbps... - the conversion still needs to be done... so, let's loose some quality again! - due to the conversion, the transfering is generaly slow... i thoght it would be faster. - it's expensive... (i payed 290 euro for a nh700... nothing but regular mid-low-range model) - no 1gb discs available... - the casing of the nh700 is made of plastic... (my mz-r70 is full magnesium at costed around 250 euro in 2000). - the DRM system is the worst thing... all those limitations make me nuts. - the software! OH DAMN! THE SOFTWARE KEEPS CRASHING ALL THE TIME. A few days ago, in the contents of one album, all the tracks were messed up in their order.. i had this nice "track number" column. I clicked over there to sort the tracks -> CRASH! WTF!? A few days ago i donwloaded some mp3, encoded them and transfered to the Hi-MD and all i got was silence... for some reason, that i didn't understud at all! After getting tired of all this, and after downloading a nice album, with some nice quality, i am doing SP recordings just like old times: REALTIME. My MZ-R70 could do those recordings as well... Conclusion: buying this hi-md for me was a lost of money!!!
