Oddly enough this happened to me just a couple weeks ago with my RH1 (which was purchased when it was first available in the states). I was recording some of my own piano improv and noticed the recorder making a slight repetitive clicking noise. I pressed stop and it sat "saving data" for a bit over 10 min or so (all the while making the same slight clicking sound) before I removed the battery, losing the last recording. Haven't had problems since with that disc or the unit, however.

I knew we would hit 50,000 by 2007! This is truly awesome news! A big thanks to everyone here who has helped out over the years!

The Hi-MD Music Transfer Software available for Mac is only compatible with Hi-MD recorders that can playback Mp3 files natively (2nd and 3rd gen... NH1 is 1st gen unfortunately). Also, in order to upload your own recordings to Mac you need a Mac-Compatible model (MZ-M10/M100, MZ-RH1). More info here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=16424

Suggestions for library organization/formats
raintheory replied to Dr. Spankenstein's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
In regards to trackmarking files transferred to the RH1, the only way to do this is either by recording in realtime, or using SimpleBurner in NetMD mode. -
for stereo track go to: Project>New Stereo Track LP2 is Stereo.

Just a word of caution, with my RH10 I have experienced a problem (that I have been able to replicate) when trackmarking and then deleting small segments. For example if you were to put track marks on either side of a short segment, and then delete the segment. I'm not sure if the M100 would experience the same issue, but in my case it trashed the entire disc, and since the M100 is almost identical to the RH10... I experienced no problems with just trackmarking however. Just when deleting those small sections after trackmarking. Actually now that I think of it this error may have happened while removing trackmarks after the middle section was deleted/edited out./.. Either way, use caution while editing on the unit just in case. But I think you should be safe just trackmarking.

If you can listen to the complete recording, the TOC was written correctly and the disc was finalized. First off, be sure you are using the latest version of SonicStage (currently 4.2). Secondly, you could try splitting the file into smaller segments (by adding trackmarks on the unit itself) and then uploading. I seem to recall a couple of people in the past having difficulty uploading large PCM recordings, but they uploaded fine after the recording was split up.

Failing that, you could try reinstalling MDAC completely.

That will be amazing I'm sure. Great band.

Have you tried MarC's HiMDRenderer Software? http://www.marcnetsystem.co.uk/ If the DRM info for the files has been lost (due to the upgrades, if you didnt use the backup tool) you may be out of luck. If SonicStage and MarC's software don't do the trick, I'd recommend hanging onto the files just in case a solution to this comes up in the future.

Can Hi-MD Music Transfer for Mac 2.0 handle ID3 tags?

No problem! Also on a semi-related note, I was able to upload this particular mp3 file via SonicStage to PC. -
Can Hi-MD Music Transfer for Mac 2.0 handle ID3 tags?
raintheory replied to fanimej's topic in Software
Checking... EDIT (Results): ID3 tags transfer fine from Mac to the RH1 (displayed on remote). However, you cannot drag directly from iTunes to the music transfer window. My workaround was to drag from iTunes to the desktop (creating a copy) and then drag the mp3 file from desktop into music transfer window. Apparently you have to drag an actual mp3 file into the window. Odd behaviour (since dragging from iTunes to desktop creates a copy of the mp3 anyway) that will hopefully be fixed in a newer version of the software, if one is released. -

Doesn't appear to be working... This recent update had a few bumps (PM messages, and I'm guessing the Gallery) but all should be fixed soon. -
Adding tracks to a cassette recording with MZ-RH910
raintheory replied to mercurius's topic in Minidisc
I believe during playback the REC button doubles as a trackmark button on that unit. So just hit REC/TrkMrk when you want a new track (while listening). -
You can upload your own recordings just fine on a Mac (using the mac-compatible models). Just not Mp3 files. From what I remember while testing you can transfer Mp3 files (as well as your own recordings) back and forth to various computers using the latest SonicStage with no problems. I didnt test whether or not you can upload an mp3 transferred to Hi-MD via Mac Software onto a PC using SonicStage though. Perhaps soon...

You can transfer Mp3s to the RH10 on a Mac using the newest Mac software (just no uploads). As for the original question... Nope, I don't think there is a way.
-
Under transfer settings (the little toolbox under the arrow-transfer button), set to "Standard Transfer Mode". Although I have had a few occasions where VBR mp3 files showed as 320kbps or 256kbps regardless.

Trying this now, 1 sec... EDIT: Tried uploading 2 mp3 files (From RH1). One was transferred via SonicStage from PC, and the other was transferred using the Mac software. Neither one would upload to the Mac. Sorry.

Thanks Chris, Be sure to let us know if there is anything we can do to help.

Yep, no PMs here either. Which is a bit of a bummer since I have semi-time-sensitive info that I need from one of my messages. Other than the PM issue, I am liking this update more and more!

I'm not positive on the uploading of mp3 files to Mac, I can test that later just to be sure if need be.

Lamewing... The forums are acting up and I cant check or send any PMs.. email me when you get a chance. my email is my username here in the forums at hotmail.com, I've got everything squared away on my end but I need some info from you. Thanks.

This depends on the recording format that you choose on the recorder. If you choose PCM, it records as WAV quality. If you choose Hi-SP or Hi-LP it records in compressed Atrac3+. Regardless of the format chosen however, all recordings uploaded to Mac are converted to WAV. Quality-wise, your best bet would be to record in PCM. Also, considering that all uploads are converted to WAV anyway, a low bitrate Hi-LP recording will use just as much space in the end as a high-quality PCM recording. As for the other part of the question, Hi-MD/MiniDisc uses Atrac3+ (similar in some ways to Mp3). With Mac these are all uploaded and converted to WAV, as stated before. On the unit Hi-LP is 64kbps, Hi-SP is 256kbps, and PCM is uncompressed (CD Quality). The software automatically converts PCM/Atrac3+ to WAV automatically while uploading. Yes. I don't believe so.
