  1. Yeah it's real. I got it running on Ubuntu... I followed this: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=131267 Be careful though, I tried this twice before I found that particular How-To thread and had to reinstall Ubuntu both times (lost GUI completely and was stuck at a command prompt). So be sure to backup anything important before you try. Also I think you need a pretty decent graphics card. I have a nVidia GeForce FX Go (5100 I think). That particulat How-To thread is for nVidia, but it has a link for ATI cards as well.
  2. Yeah sorry, didn't realize how big that file was... try this instead: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1...20719&q=xgl And thanks for the link!!! I was actually looking for something just like that!
  3. Well, with my new Linux partition... I finally got XGL & Compiz working (failed twice resulting in the need to reinstall the OS). Some seriously awesome eye-candy. Here's a vid for those who aren't familiar: http://www.freedesktop.org/~davidr/xgl-demo1.xvid.avi ( go here instead: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1...20719&q=xgl )
  4. Just repartitioned my hard drive on my laptop to dual-boot with Ubuntu Linux. There are only two things holding me back from leaving windows completely: 1. SonicStage... 2. Drivers for my EMU 1616m... sigh...
  5. Were you running off of a battery box through line-in? If so, using line in adds a trackmark whenever the volume drops below a certain level. There are a few threads regarding this in here somewhere...
  6. If the tracks were transferred with the "as-is" setting in SonicStage, then they are probably still in mp3 format which the NH700 cannot play. Try making a disc and specifying a bitrate for Atrac3(+) conversion.
  7. You need to set the transfer settings to "SP Transfer Mode" which will take longer but will playback on the older decks. LP2 & LP4 will not work on the R70 or JB930. The tracks recorded this way won't be "true" SP quality as previously stated, but they will play fine. It is true that the older decks will read the titles fine, but as you found out wont play them. Transferring in SP mode is the answer.
  8. Sure can, but as richyhu mentions, you need to download the latest version of Hi-MD Music Transfer for Mac (the version on the CD that comes with the RH1 only allows uploads to Mac from Hi-MD).
  9. I'm doing some research myself to find out what the problem/solution might be... In the meantime, I like your avatar pic... reminds me of some of my abstract photography (for example, my avatar) EDIT: You may have to reinstall/update MDAC in it's entirety... Let me see what I can find out though,.
  10. Yeah I've always known Windows ME as "Miserable Edition"... Good luck.
  11. That would be wonderful! You can expect another donation from me for your efforts as well!
  12. Would it be possible to implement a right-click context menu entry for Hi-MD Renderer? Something like "OMA Convert to WAV" or something...? Somewhat like dbpowerAmp's feature? Also would this be something one would be able to implement themselves or would it have to be in an upcoming version? thanks MarC for all of your efforts! -rt
  13. Offered TOC data recovery for him in exchange for a couple MiniDiscs worth of tunes. Package arrived quickly and safely. Great communication.
  14. You might want to look into a lossless compression format like FLAC. I use FLAC to archive my recordings and it is a lifesaver.
  15. Nice! This is definitely going to be my next purchase. Just the other day I was almost out of luck recording one of our jam sessions outdoors because my RH1 was dead... Luckily my fiance had her RH10 with her...
  16. Just to claify some, even with mp3 compatible Hi-MD recorders, you still need to use Sony's SonicStage software to transfer the tracks... No drag & drop.
  17. I've had this soundcard for some time on my Win2000 box... Just recently I switched that over to Ubuntu Linux and it doesn't work now. Has anyone had any luck getting this to work w/Linux? EDIT: Nevermind, I just found this: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-187920.html Hopefully I can get things working now...
  18. Well not entirely... He could modify the N505 to enable TOC cloning (I've done this with my R700) and clone a TOC from an analog-recorded disc and he would then be able to upload the discs freely. Of course he would have to trackmark the discs all over again, but still..
  19. I second bobt... Please be more specific as to what version of SonicStage you currently have installed, what you are doing when the error occurs, etc. Did you install SonicStage via the web install or the full download/CD?
  20. TOC cloning would probably work to recover the tracks. Though you would either need a deck or a modified unit to accomplish this. For uploading of legacy tracks (SP/MONO/LP2/LP4) the MZ-RH1 is needed. This is the only unit that will upload these types of recordings from MD>PC. (check your PM)
  21. TOC cloning might circumvent SCMS. Though you would need a unit that you are able to perform TOC cloning with. I would assume the following procedure would work: Clone a TOC from a disc containing one long track in the same format to your SCMS protected disc. You would have to add the trackmarks yourself, but it might work. You would then be able to digitally copy the disc just fine, since the only info changed would be the TOC. http://www.minidisc.org/cloning_procedure.html If the procedure mentioned in that link doesn't work, it is possible to modify probably just about any portable recorder to enable TOC cloning.
  22. There should be an option in advanced transfer settings for SP compatibility. That's probably what you need to use to playback on an SP only unit.
