WHY? on earth did sony make these things so mac resistant?
raintheory replied to Malone's topic in Minidisc
Mac = iPod iPod being a huge competitor for the portable player market... -
What deck did you use to get the optical-out signal? Was the SP track uploaded as PCM? Do you have the ability to perform this test with LP2? Sorry for all the questions right off the bat..

Hey all, Just wanted to share my method for setting a drive icon (without the use of an autorun.ini file). First off, I set my Hi-MD to a specific drive letter, so that it doesn't change if other devices are plugged in prior to the Hi-MD. To do this I went to Start/Run, and typed in "diskmgmt.msc" (without quotes). In the window that shows, right-click on the drive corresponding to your Hi-MD, and choose "Change Drive Letter and Paths", and then choose "Change" from the next window. Personally I chose "H" for Hi-MD. Windows may yell at you and tell you this may affect programs/etc... but as long as you don't have programs installed on the Hi-MD disc you should be fine. The next step involves the registry, so be sure to make a backup of your registry if you are not familiar with editing keys, etc. Open the registey editor. From Start/Run, type "regedit" (no quotes). Navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer". Create a new key in this location called "DriveIcons" (again, no quotes). Then inside this key create another key and title it the Letter you assigned to your Hi-MD in the previous step (e.g. "H" [no quotes]). Now create one more key inside this one labeled "DefaultIcon" (do I have to mention the quotes thing again?). Now in the right-hand pane modify this key and point it to wherever you have stored the icon file you wish to be shown for that drive letter. Hope this helps some. I got tired of having to put the autorun files back on the Hi-MD after I had formatted them, etc. This saves you the step.

"This track is already registered in My Library" error
raintheory replied to geogan's topic in Software
Double-check around this location to be sure the .oma files for the tracks aren't there (or in any folders located in this location): C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\SonicStage\Packages If they are there anywhere just re-import them into your library. -
I was thinking that too greenmachine, but I don't think the JE510 is MDLP, so if they were recorded with the JE510 they should work... I would think?

Audacity (Open-Source, I think it's available in the downloads section here) would be a good place to start. Probably the best freeware sound editing program.

It does get a little warm, but I haven't had any problems with the temperature as of yet. We use the Firewire 800 when its connected to our G5, and the Firewire 600 otherwise,,,

Yeah I just noticed that I repeated myself in both post 22 & 25 of this thread

This software only works with models that are mp3/mac compatible. Any model that can playback Mp3 directly can be used with the software to download Mp3>Hi-MD. Only Mac-Compatible models (M10, M100, RH1, M200) will allow uploads from Hi-MD>Mac .
-
- No external AA battery attachment for the RH1. - Also, some functions of the RH1 are only accessible using the remote. - Not much info is displayed on the unit itself. In defense of the RH1 though: - Can record in legacy formats (SP/LP2/LP4) on the unit itself. - Mp3 direct playback is not hindered as it is in the RH910. - Mac uploads are allowed of Hi-MD recordings. I own both the RH10 and the RH1. I'd recommend the RH1, particularly if you do alot of recording, and definitely if you have legacy discs lying around, since you can upload these to PC with the RH1.

I think the main improvements in 3.4 are the additional bitrates (352kbps, 192kbps) for Atrac3+... There are other enhancements (dynamic playlists, AtracLossless, etc.) as well. 4.0 adds the ability to import AAC files. Aside from that I think thats the only improvement. However, I don't think you can use 3.2 with the new RH1 to upload legacy recordings... I could be wrong on this though.
-
Enjoy the unit! My RH1 (purchased in US) did not come supplied with an optical cable either. Also, there is a new version of the Mac Music Transfer (v2) available that will allow you to transfer Mp3 files to your new RH1... See this thread: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=16424

Sadly the 500GB goes quick with a few high-quality Cubase projects in the works and a few DV projects... Not to mention a couple years of jam sessions in FLAC format.. I have gotten into the habit of backing up most of what is on the LaCie every few weeks to DVD-RW... Almost lost everything more than once due to hard drive problems. Don't like taking that chance!
-
[attachmentid=1914] The 500gig one is a bit chunky too...
-
SP2 huh?

I have uploaded a few MONO recordings. SonicStage converts them to either STEREO Hi-SP or STEREO PCM (depending on how you've set the preferences). Personally I upload SP/MONO as PCM and then convert to FLAC (either STEREO or MONO depending on the source material)...
-
Try this out on the old PC (hopefully you still have it)... In SonicStage, go to "Tools/My Library/Backup My Library". This will create a backup of your library retaining all of the rights info. You would then go through the same process on the new PC to import the library. This should work... However, I have never actually done this. If anyone with experience wants to chime in please do.
-
Here you go: [attachmentid=1905] Under "Tools/Options/Transfer" - Click on "Hi-MD" then "Transfer Settings" to set the bitrate to whatever you'd like. Or you can simply click on this little button when in the transfer screen of SonicStage: [attachmentid=1908] EDIT: Welcome to the forums BTW.
-
You would definitely want LP2 over LP4 for music. LP4 might be bearable for speech perhaps... I never use it though.
-
Yep, any recorder that plays back mp3 directly will work with the software. Just can't upload with any non-mac-compatible models.
-
The RH1 can upload SP/MONO/LP2/LP4/Hi-SP/Hi-LP/PCM using SonicStage. SP/MONO recordings can't be uploaded natively and must be either transcoded to Hi-SP or uploaded diretly as PCM. The only limitation to uploading with the RH1 is that if the Legacy format tracks originated from a computer (i.e. Sonicstage/Simpleburner) they cannot be uploaded. Also, using a Macintosh you can only upload Hi-MD formats.

How to use SonicStage to back up your recordings
raintheory replied to greenmachine's topic in Software
Does anyone else think a copy of this should be pinned in the "Software Discussion/FAQ's" category? There have been numerous posts in that category regarding DRM on uploaded material and I keep sending people to this post.. Might be easier to find in that category.. -
Playing exported tracks on another computer or "good bye SONY"...
raintheory replied to Sevkatia's topic in Software
http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=16088 Follow the steps in this thread to release your files from DRM and they can be played on another computer just fine. Substitute the ATRAC3+ bitrates mentioned with the cooresponding ATRAC3 (LP2/LP4) bitrates to release your legacy uploads fromk DRM.
