  1. I beleive this was inplemented because of problems people were experiencing whilst uploading tracks that they had not titled. If a track is uploaded without being titled, SonicStage will (depending on the unit) title the tracks as either the date/time of recording, or the date/time of uploading. If you had a series of tracks that were untitled and uploaded rather quickly, older versions of SonicStage wouldn't have these ordered correctly because the date/time stamp would be the same for each track. For example, if sonicstage uploaded more than one file in the same minute you would end up with a series of tracks titled "2006-07-03 22_39_16", "2006-07-03 22_39_16(01)", "2006-07-03 22_39_16(02)" these were automatically generated in such a way that when organized by track/file name, the actual first track would end up after the consecutive tracks uploaded after it during that same minute. I assume that Sony recognized this and added the "00x-" prefix to enable the tracks to be ordered correctly once uploaded. I don't know of any way off-hand to disable this, though I will see what I can find.
  2. Great stuff. Nothing can top their "( )" album though. Saw these guys live a few years back in Washington D.C., incredible.

    legacy MD

The RH1 can record in all Legacy formats (SP, LP2, LP4) except MONO.
  4. Just to claify a bit, if you previously have say 4 groups on a Hi-MD, and then wish to transfer more tracks into say the first group on the Hi-MD later on, it is as simple as clicking on that group before clicking the transfer button. By default it would most likely make a new group for that album.
  5. Either by using your PC (SonicStage software) or on the unit itself, you are able to record in Legacy formats with the RH1. The only exception is MONO, which can't be done either way. Using SonicStage you can transfer music in the following Legacy formats: LP2, LP4, and what is commonly called "Fake SP", which is basically the same as LP2 but dressed up as SP for compatibility with older units. Depending on your Deck, you may be able to use the LP modes. The RH1 really stands out in that it can actually upload those legacy discs to PC. It is the first unit thatg will do this. However, all Hi-MD recorders will transfer to standard MD using SonicStage (the 1st gen can record on unit as well in these formats). If you have a bunch of legacy discs laying around that you would love to backup, or if you plan to dabble with live recording, then the RH1 would definitely be in your best interest. If you have no need for uploading of legacy discs and recording, then basically any Hi-MD model will do what you want to do (transfer in legacy modes to MD, use as external data drive).
  6. Try this once... Disconnect the power, and take the battery out. Leave the unit sit for a few minutes and then put the battery back in. Try playing the disc then. Also you may want to try rewinding without the remote attached and see if it does anything differently. When the unit displays "END" you should be able to push the jog lever thing towards FR and it will either skip back a track (or to the beginning) if you press it and then release, or alternately if you've pressed play/enter first and then hold the jog lever in that position it should rewind the track starting from the end.
  7. Yes it should play it back just fine. I do think it's odd. I was just mentioning the uploading because if the software doesn't see the track on the disc then maybe something happened to the track or disc toc.
  8. Have you tried uploading the recording via SonicStage or the Mac music transfer?

    legacy MD

As far as Hi-MD units are concerned: 1st gen units (NH1, NH900, etc.) can record and play these but can't upload them. 2nd gen units (RH10, RH910, etc.) can playback, but can record these formats only via SonicStage. And no upload. 3rd gen (RH1) can record, playback and upload.
  10. The Mac software supplied with the RH1 that I received (only uploads) stated that it will upload Hi-SP, Hi-LP, & PCM recorded on any Mac-compatible model. In theory this would mean that you could use the M10 and M100 to upload those other Hi-MD formats as well. The previous software only allowed uploads of PCM. As far as transfers from Mac>Hi-MD we will have to wait and see. I would assume with a high degree of certainty that if such software appears it will only work with the Mac-compatible models, and yes as Volta stated... Maybe only the RH1 will support uploads as well as downloads.
  11. I do not own the NH1 myself. But I have owned a total of 5 Hi-MD units total (currently own 3, the NH900, RH10, & RH1). The RH1 pros as I see it, are ability to upload legacy recordings (this is a major one), direct mp3 playback (not avail on 1st gen units including the NH1, and somewhat crippled on 2nd gen units), HD digital amp, OLED, and it remembers your rec-settings. Also the speed of uploads/downloads is faster than with previous units... I'm sure as you state that there will be complaints about the RH1. The only con I can think of (that really dowsn't bother me though) is the 1-line display on the unit and lack of track/title info on unit. All that aside. Personally I have easily over 100 legacy MDs. The fact that the RH1 now allows uploads of these is a HUGE deal. Yes, I have a deck with optical-out, but do the math... Also from a recording standpoint this thing is awesome. NH1 pros.. having not owned this model I can only state that the RM-40ELK (which I do own) is an awesome remote and its good that the unit comes with this. I do think the NH1 is very aesthetically appealing. NH1 cons that come to mind (as compared to RH1) would be the lack of direct mp3 playback, lack of legacy upload ability, doesn't remember rec-settings, and slower upload/download speeds... It's all very subjective really. It all depends on what you want in a Hi-MD recorder. Do you need legacy upload ability? Is direct mp3 playback a useful thing for you? Anyways, hope this helps some and good luck. EDIT: Lack of an external dry battery attachment for the RH1 would qualify as another con.
  12. Looks good from here. That should do it. Bear in mind that SonicStage in effect will have the PCM version saved as well as the converted WAV. The PCM version can be found somewhere near "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\SonicStage\Packages" and they can be safely deleted after uploading and converting to WAV. The PCM versions serve little purpose as they are wrapped in DRM anyway.
  13. I placed my pre-order for the RH1 back in the middle of May. I received mine on Tuesday June 27th. I'm sure they are quite busy with the amount of pre-orders as well as new orders coming in.
  14. Perfect! Thanks! Still looks like the mp3 drops of slightly before atrac even with teh RH1... Nowhere near as much as with the RH10 though, which is great. Would be interesting to see the frequency analysis of that same thing but not actually played back through a unit. So we can really see how much the unit is contributing to it.
  15. Well, to be slightly back on topic... I would like to see comparison charts for the RH1 mp3 vs atrac situation. Someone did these back when the RH10 came out. Is that going somewhere richyhu?
  16. That's correct. Similar thing happens if you put an MDLP disc in a non-MDLP unit.
  17. The only Hi-MD model that would allow you to upload these "legacy" recordings is the newest model - the MZ-RH1. There are plenty of threads about this model here in the forums. With the RH1 you wouldn't need to re-record any old discs since it will actually just upload them.
  18. SSAAD.exe is thrown into startup (via the registry) by sonicstage. However everytime you start sonicstage it puts the startup key back. I'm not sure anyone is quite clear on what exactly this file is used for/why it's in startup. However, I have simply renamed the file to "SSAAD.bak" after stopping it via task manager. I haven't run into any problems at all or noticed any difference since doing it.
  19. I noticed something while using the RM-MC40ELK on my RH1... The font looks different when playing an Mp3 track versus an ATRAC one. I'm not sure if it does this with the RH10 or not. I'll have to check that later. EDIT: Here is one display screen I have found that will not display with the RH1. I was using my NH900 at the time... Normally this screen is accessed by pressing "display" 4 times. [attachmentid=1819]
  20. No problem! Do me a favor and post back when you get yours uploaded just so we know for sure, since I only had one pre-recorded disc to try out.
  21. Well I was only able to test this with one pre-recorded MiniDisc (Pink Floyd - The Final Cut), but the RH1 will actually upload pre-recorded discs! I thought at first that it would not allow this because it would not allow you to upload NetMD tracks, but it worked! Guess this is good news for anybody with a bunch of pre-recorded MiniDisc albums that is getting the RH1! EDIT: Sorry if this was already known... I don't recall seeing it mentioned. Also I doubt too many people have an abundance of these pre-recorded discs... Still good to know though.
  22. Yep it's actually the recorded date/time and not the uploading date/time (assuming you've set the clock on the unit). That was one of the first things I checked when I got mine. You can also display it on the unit itself or the remote. Also it only names the track as the rec-date when importing to SonicStage if it's untitled on the unit.
  23. Release the files from DRM using the instructions here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=16088 Then try importing the un-DRMed files.
  24. One hyphenated word: REC-PAUSE There have been far too many occasions where after the show/jam session/etc. I look at the unit only to see 00:00 flashing...
