  1. Two features that I think would be useful from a recording perspective are: Time-Machine Recording (30sec or so). Ability to actually start recording from the remote (without having to have the unit in rec-pause). The Time-Machine Recording would be a big plus. One of my previous pro-decks had this feature (only 6sec though) and it was reeally something.
  2. Yep, the MZ-1's recgargeable battery is actually thicker than the MZ-R1. It's also about as long as the RH1. Feels like it might weigh more than the RH1 as well... And The silver buttons too. I was noticing the similarities as well.
  3. Thought you all might enjoy this... Click to enlarge.
  4. Listening to my old legacy discs from the past 10 years or so and moving track marks around before uploading with my new RH1. I'll probably be finished uploading and backing up these legacy discs in about 5 or 6 months.. Pastagaman: I will be going to a few Silver Mt Zion shows during the end of July and the beginning of August. I plan to get some decent recordings so I'll keep you posted.
  5. With the current software supplied with the RH1, you can upload (to a Mac) only Hi-SP/Hi-LP/PCM recordings made with a Mac-Compatible Unit (i.e. the RH1, M200, M100, M10). This is what the product sheet included with the software states. I will definitely test this later today to be sure. With the RH1 on a PC you can transfer anything except tracks originally transferred via SonicStage/OpenMG Jukebox in NetMD mode. In other words you can transfer SP/MONO/LP2/LP4/Hi-SP/Hi-LP/PCM via SonicStage with the RH1. I am unaware if there will be software released for Mac that will allow you to transfer music to the recorder as the current software supplied does not do this.
  6. Heres a pic of the unit for those interested... [attachmentid=1810]
  7. Yikes! The power supply doesn't look quite right.. [attachmentid=1809]

  9. Pre-ordered the unit from SoundProfessionals back in mid-May. Before they raised the price of the unit. In total I paid $307. I also got a free SoundProfessionals mic. Side-note, just uploaded my first SP track (though it needed to convert it to either WAV or Hi-SP when importing). Trying to get my Legacy discs in a row now. Will probably be spending the next month or so trying to back all of this stuff up. My fiance is now upstairs loading the Mac software so we can test it out.
  10. Letting the unit charge fully before any testing. Says 25min left. This thing is perfect size though. I'll tell ya. At first I thought the little toggle jog lever thing was going to be a pain, but it's actually quite nice. The Mac Music Transfer software on the CD that came with SonicStage (3.4 don't ask me why) says that it can only transfer material recorded on a Hi-MD mac compatible unit. And only the following formats - PCM, Hi-SP, Hi-LP. Thats some good news, perhaps the software will enable users of the M10/M100 to actually upload the other formats besides PCM. Also says it convers all files to WAV when importing. Says it will not transfer Legacy recordings to Mac. And mentions absolutely nothing about transferring music to Hi-MD from the Mac.
  11. It's here. I'm excited. I'll post more about it later. It deserves my attention.
  12. Be sure to follow the instructions here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=8071 Taking note of all of the file folders and registry locations. Be sure that you got them all. Failing that, have you checked your temp folders?
  13. Many of you may be familiar with the concept of TOC Cloning from the earlier (pre HiMD) days of MiniDisc. TOC cloning in those days enabled users to retrieve audio that had accidentally been erased, as well as increasing disc capacities. All by simply tricking a MiniDisc recorder into writing the TOC from a "source disc" (containing one long track the entire length of the disc, in whatever format the original disc was) onto the original, or "victim disc". There have been many users over the years that have found ways with patricular units to accomplish TOC Cloning. These units were mainly Sony Decks and older Sharp portables. The basic concept is to eject the "source disc" without the unit knowing (after the TOC has been read into memory). And then inserting the "victim disc" and having the unit write the TOC by either titling a track, adding a track-mark etc. Personally I chose to try this out a few months ago with an MDLP Sony Prtable (R700). I had seen no indication of anyone attempting this before so I downloaded the service manual and experimented. To my surprise I ended up with a Sony portable that could clone TOC's. Since the advent of Hi-MD I do not recall the topic being brought up at any point. Though I have seen numerous topics about erased Hi-MD discs (particularly with older SonicStage versions) and lost Hi-MD recordings. So with the RH1 on it's way to my mailbox I decided to give it a go. This time with my NH900 Hi-MD recorder. After sucessfully modifying the unit and testing. There is some bad news. Although I can sucessfully clone one Hi-MD TOC to another, each time immediately after wrtiing the system file the unit will first display "Rec Error". And then "Cannot Record or Play". When plugging the unit into SonicStage, it does one of two things. The first time it promptly attempted to see if I deleted tracks without checking them in, and the second time I got the good old "Initialized by a program other than SonicStage" message. Just to be sure that I hadn't messed up the recorder itself while doing the modifications, I tested the recorder in it's normal way and it works fine. Moral of the story: HiMD TOC Cloning does not seem possible. At least not in the way standard MD TOC cloning was accomplished.
  14. Man, and I thought my Adblock extension started working out of the blue...
  15. Probably worth noting that MarC's Hi-MD Renderer can be used to convert the OMA files after releasing them from DRM. The version in the downloads section here isn't the most recent version though. The most recent version can be d/l at MarC's site here: http://www.marcnetsystem.co.uk/
  16. I'm not sure about the rights info stuff... But as far as getting your uploaded tracks off of your old laptop - take a look at this trhead and follow the procedures to release the tracks from DRM: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=16088 Have you tried uploading from a different disc? Or a reinstall of SonicStage?
  17. Also be sure to check your system for Spyware/Visruses (but be sure to turn these programs off before installation).
  18. Just to update everyone. I checked my RH1 pre-order with SoundProfessionals (originally ordered it 05/22/06) and it appears that my RH1 is scheduled for delivery tomorrow! A black unit to boot! Perhaps I will be among the first in the states to receive the RH1.
  19. Ahh, yes I'm just north of you in PA. Quite a few storms these past few days here as well.
  20. Well if it doesn't qualify as SPAM it will most certainly lead to SPAM.. Quote from the NATPE.org Privacy Agreement: And this one from the TV Content Providers Privacy Policy (though it is rather vague)
  21. 1. "Plug in power" simply means that your Hi-MD unit is powering the mics that you plug into the mic-in. In other words, you do not need powered mics or a pre-amp (since the Hi-MD is supplying power). 2. You can drag & drop regular files onto your Hi-MD with windows explorer, yes. However you must you SonicStage to transfer music to and from Hi-MD. Hope this clears it up some.
  22. I am unsure that anyone can comment on the full functionality regarding Mac-compatibility since the software for it isn't available yet.
  23. Great album, have you heard of Esmerine? (another GY!BE side-project)
  24. Finally got my Toshiba Satellite laptop (WinXP), My old OPTIPLEX desktop (Win2000), and our G5 (MacOSX Tiger) all happily networked with file-sharing and ICS. Still can't get printer sharing to work though...
