  1. Here is what apple says about (de)fragmentation http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25668 I would have preferred NTFS, but then OSX wouldn't be able to read it. Only options that OSX would read were HFS+ & FAT32. FAT32 would only allow up to 32 gig partitions, which wasn't very useful for my purposes. On another note, after a bit of research I discovered that the 500 gig big drive is actually 2 smaller drives in one enclosure. After plugging it in on the G5 and having no problems, I'm beginning to wonder if the power strip I was using while running it on the laptop wasn't giving it enough juice to power both drives correctly... At any rate, I have all the new important data on DVDR now.
  2. The movie "White Noise" has an older MD recorder in it...
  3. Most likely nothing... Probably not uploadable, but who knows.?
  4. I had concerns of defragging mine since it is formatted as HFS+ for our Mac... I use MacDrive to access the drive with Windows. I actually emailed them to ask if it was safe to run windows utilities like defrag, etc. and they said they don't recommend it if the drive is formatted as HFS+...
  5. Luckily I had burned most of our recordings up through the end of 2005 to DVD-Rs in anticipation of something like this... Mainly it's just the recent stuff that hasn't been backed up. After I get the recent stuff off of here I'm going to try to figure out if I can salvage the drive or get a new one under warranty. Hopefully it's just data corruption to the extent that a long format while attached to our G5 will take care of it... At this point I am debating getting a fireproof safe/lockbox to keep our DVD backups in... Or perhaps a safety-deposit box somewhere. BTW, how long have you had your LaCie 160 gig HD? Our's is a LaCie as well, got it last May...
  6. I don't know what's up here today... First off the loading mechanism on the DVD drive of my desktop computer went out on me this morning. Later, while trying to load a linux distro on my old laptop the CD-ROM on it died on me. Then, as if that wasn't enough... our 500 gig external hard drive (which we have had less than a year) started developing the "click of death"... I'm now in the process of trying to save what I can from it. Mainly jam sessions of my own music and such. Man, I just checked and Mercury hasn't been in retrograde since last week... Perhaps the eclipse has something to do with it? Anyone else having a bunch of crazy computer/electronics issues today?
  7. I was wondering the same thing, if the RH1 would record in the legacy formats... Would make sense since you can upload those formats, but I kind of doubt it since the 2nd gen lacked this feature. Anyway, welcome to the forums!
  8. I'll definitely start putting money aside for one of these beauties... Finally I will be able to back up all of my SP and MDLP discs! Now all we need is Sony to release a remote that has the recording functions built-in....
  9. Does that say USB 2.0? I can't read german, so that is about the only thing I could understand..
  10. You should post some clips in the gallery when you get them to PC.
  11. Read all about it here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=7070
  12. Yes, you can even use both at the same time... We got the camera kit which included 2 lenses, 14-45mm & 40-150mm.
  13. Thanks in part to tax refund money: Brand-New 8.1 Megapixel Olympus EVOLT 500 Digital SLR Camera.
  14. I seem to keep going back to GoldWave myself... Have tried Audacity, Wavelab, etc. but I guess it's just that I'm more familiar with GoldWave since I have used it for so long.
  15. I don't know of any recorders that have 2 mic inputs. Your best bet would be to get a set of stereo (binaural) microphones, something like these http://www.soundprofessionals.com/cgi-bin/gold/item/SP-BMC-2 .
  16. I've heard of this one before and installed it once to check it out. Looks to be a pretty decent Multi-Track recorder... Personally I use GoldWave for editing/mixing sounds, does Kristal Audio have a fair amount of editing possiblilities?
  17. Unfortunately, I have tried this myself out of curoisity, and the HiMD unit just displays "TOC DATA ERROR" and won't do anything with the disc. You'll have to go the analog route with the Yamaha multitrack if you want the recordings on your PC. The only alternative is to find a Tascam 564 Multi-Track recorder which has a digital out if you really want digital recordings... Then again you would also need either a soundcard with the RCA S/PDIF connector or some sort of adapter...
  18. You could always transfer in PCM via SimpleBurner...
  19. Fill up a disc once with some tunes and check it with windows defragmenter... The whole thing is fragmented. Even if you start from a fresh disc. The only benefit I could see to defragmenting a HiMD disc is that your recorder will definitely get a good work out.
  20. Well it worked for a little bit at least.... I am getting the same error message again.. EDIT: Seems to work on and off at the moment. ...
  21. For those of you who have been unable to get this to work (including me ) Try this out: in regedit, under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sony Corporation\SonicStage\EMD\HomeURL\0 instead of changing the "url" value to "http://www.forums.minidisc.org", try "http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?" Seems to have worked for me. Also before I opened sonicstage to try it, i opened internet explorer and signed into the forums with the "remember me" option on.
  22. The initial question wasn't so much sound quality differnces in ATRAC3+ & MP3... It was if the Mp3 Data is changed in any way after transferring to HiMD and back to PC again...
  23. Tried that too. Regardless of what site it is, it starts loading and then automatically redirects to the error page (or in the case of what I had done with a redirect script, back and forth ).
  24. Thanks! Funny, I had trouble finding that one as well...
  25. Well the redirect script in the weberr.html file isn't working. Also tried just putting a link on that error page to the forums, but that didn't work either....
