The built-in WAV conversion within SonicStage is only applicable to analogue recordings (i.e. Mic-in, Line-in), and will not work with Digital/Optical recordings. MarCs program will convert those optical recordings. Also MarCs HiMDRenderer will export in alternate formats other than WAV.

Currently there are no MD/HiMD units that support USB 2... It is also unlikely that there will be, since the speed of USB 2 is greater than the speed that it takes the HiMD unit to heat the magnification layer of the disc and write the data. That is, of course unless they decide to incorporate some sort of buffer, either internal or via SD/Flash media, to store data as the disc is writing.

Advice needed: Best Mindisc Unit for Field Recordings
raintheory replied to sadarang's topic in Minidisc
I would recommend the RH10 unless you have some overwhelming need to record in LP2 or LP4 (which you wouldn't be able to upload anyway). The OLED on the RH10 is perfect for most field recording situations, especially in little to no light... As a second choice I would recommend the NH900. I own both units and have used each extensively for field recordings/concerts. I would love to hear some of your recordings when you return.. Post some in the gallery here if you would like, or at least give me a URL if you post them online somewhere. -
Yes, you would need to use line-in... I don't think anything besides controls for playing the player (and titles) are sent via USB on NetMD models.. In other words, no audio is sent to PC via USB for NetMD.

MarC... You are the man. I continue to encourage everyone who uses your program to donate.

I remember seeing a few posts about the stop button acting funny on some NH900s... Haven't had any trouble with mine yet, but I would certainly send it in to get it looked at. I'm pretty confident it's nothing you were doing that would have caused it.

Currently there is nothing that can be done with those files. I would recommend holding onto them though, just in case something comes up in the near future that would allow you to convert them.

Did you uninstall your previous version of SonicStage via the directions here http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=8071?

I remember when testing out 3.2 initially, that the "No Copy Protection" only applies to CDs that you are importing. The resulting OMA files from uploaded recordings from HiMD are still DRMed, only difference being that you can upload the recording as many times as you want, and I believe that you can upload the same recording from HiMD to as many computers as you want as well.... You just can't move the uploaded recording from computer to computer. Why SONY felt the need to give us the rights to any CD, but not our own recordings is beyond me... but hey, its SONY.

I'm not sure about SonicStage, but I know you can use SimpleBurner to get CDs to HiMD in PCM...

Unfortunately it sounds as though your unit may be in it's last days... I've seen that unit for pretty cheap a few places online, or you may even be able to find the MZ-NH600D for about as cheap if you keep your eyes open (found my NH600D for $30).

I found out the hard way myself about editing on the HiMD units themselves. Unfortunately I ended up with a trashed disc that wouldn't even play afterwards. Glad to hear you seem to be up and rolling though.

If the repair tool doesn't help, I would recommend uninstalling/reinstalling via the directions here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=8071

If you are using the demo version of WinZip (to open the SBurner.zip file), you may have inadvertantly clicked on the purchase button. A single-user license for WinZip is $29. SimpleBurner is free. There are a few decent freeware utilities akin to WinZip that you should be able to find on the web. EDIT: Is this what you were seeing? [attachmentid=925]

As far as the gumstick batteries, I think the NH900 comes with 10wm and RH10 comes with 14wm... At least that is how my two units were when I got them. Either will work fine, though the 14wm may last a bit longer.

There are most likely numerous possibilities... To narrow it down, have you tried a different MD? Does the signal bar (the bar at the bottom of the screen) move when the song is playing? You mentioned that the disc in the upper right-hand corner is spinning... Is the disc spinning fast or slow?

I just tested something out guys, and this may save a few steps. I took a 128kbps mp3, imported into my library. Right-clicked on the file and chose to convert the format to ATRAC3 132kbps. After converting, I deleted the file from my library (but not from computer). I then imported the ATRAC3 file for the track located in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\SonicStage\Packages\Optimized files. After you convert the file (before deleting it), it still shows as mp3 in my library... Right-click on the file, choose properties, and go to the tab "file info" to see that there are in fact 2 versions of the file. mp3 & atrac3. In other words, after you right-click the file and convert format, you have to delete the mp3 file from my library, and then import the atrac3 file in order to use it.

Does the unit itself say MDLP on it? If it doesn't, theres a good chance it doesn't support the LP modes and will only playback/record in SP/MONO.

Hat Trick For MDCF? - Service Mode + 2nd Gen Hi-MD
raintheory replied to Christopher's topic in Essential Hi-MD info/FAQ's.
I believe if you remove all power sources before saving anything it will reset. -
Note on your #2... HiMD supports Uncompressed PCM. And for #7 Using said Uncopressed PCM for Live Recording.
