  1. if you are an experienced or trained technician, then yes. But as you are asking, how to open this thing, I strongly suggest, that you return it to the shop for service. The innards are very fragile and an inexperienced person will ruin it only more...
  2. Or something like that. Suggestion: Watch this Forum or the minidisc.org main page, that's the places, you will know it first.
  3. You have to go through the installer first.

    Charging NH3D

A charge pump works by charging a capacitor and then placing it in series between battery and output. That cycle is repeated a few 100000 times per second. This one from Maxim is a good example, what is possible: http://www.maxim-ic.com/appnotes.cfm/appno...ote_number/1021 Give it 2 D-Cells and you have a nice Lamp...
  5. Sounds like a loose solder joint. Check under Controlpanel --> System --> Hardwaremanager, if the recorder appears among the other USB-Devices in the list. If not, the connector has to be resoldered to the circuit board, where it is on.
  6. Sure, realtime recording off the soundcard, that's possible with Winamp. But Winamp lacks the download-function and the ATRAC-Encoders necessary for NetMD-Download. So It's back to Realplayer or SonicStage...
  7. Some lower quality ISPs have problems resolving the addresses of internet sites, or have problems transporting certain filetypes. The hosts - file allows you to enter names and IP-Addresses of often used files and internal servers. it is found here in WinXP: C:WINDOWSsystem32driversetc Normally it is empty except for an example. But I say, try that link, there are a few more mirrors if it doesn't work: http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/audacit....1.exe?download
  8. You've tried this Page? http://audacity.sourceforge.net/windows.php If that page (verified) doesn't work, kick your ISP in the butt or check your hosts file for some unwanted entries. Some trojans do that to prevent the download of a virus-scanner.
  9. @Seroka2: What Datarate/Recording mode you've been using? If you used Hi-LP, then try it again with Hi-SP or PCM. If the soundquality still sucks, then the amp inside the player doesn't like your headphones. Hi-SP is good enough to sound almost identical to CD. @Bates: Take a look here: http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?p=21330#21330 Did some extensive Tests with SonicStage 2.0. I will repeat the tests with the 2.1 on the weekend to see, if the codecs had been improved as well. On a sidenote, the actual units can sound better than SonicStage, see this thread: http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=5235 A MDS-JE780 easily outperforming SonicStage...
  10. And of course: Remember to BACKUP! your files before updating. SonicStage-Menu --> Tools --> Backup.
  11. Because of its size? So everything, except the D/A conversion is done by the Host-CPU. However, turning off any effects should do the trick, I think.
  12. That's a Jenoptik problem. I have a JD4100z camera and the included AND an updated driver crashed continuously. Someone else reported a conflict between SonicStage and a PDA synchronizer. It seems, that the SonicStage's portscan is a bit asocial in its behaviour as well.

    hi-md purchase

Well, that's easy to find out... *several mouseclicks later* Yes you're right, It's a NiMH-Gumstick. *corrects other post*
  15. Welcome. PCA IS lossless, so there is no difference between PCA and uncompressed WAV. If there is, your computer has a problem - A serious one... Sure, it would, but there is a problem: The datarate isn't constant, so recalculating the remaining recording time is not possible without being considerably off. SonicStage can read only MP3, WAV, and non-DRM WMA. Personally, I don't see lossless compression on a Sony consumer device any time soon. Expect never...

    hi-md purchase

    1. Welcome to the forum. a: NHF800 has a radio in the remote. NH900 has a Gumstick-style NiMH-battery and therefore not the bulge on the backside, home-deck-style editing with rehearsal on divide, allowing to shift trackmarks in fine increments with the jog-dial, with the NHF800 setting trackmarks is trial and error... The digital amp improves the soundquality on playback, compared to the low voltage analog amps used in the cheaper models. Digital pitch allows to play audio faster than real-time without changing the pitch itself. c: No, not via USB. You have to go the old route through the soundcard with these. Manuals for all Hi-MD units can be downloaded here: http://www.minidisc.org/part_Hi-MD_Sony.html b: I suggest to look through the messages here: http://forums.minidisc.org/viewforum.php?f=18 A wide choice of microphones is available here: http://www.soundprofessionals.com/
  17. Does the line-out of your laptop suck like a black hole. Do you need optical out on a machine, that you are not allowed to open (Warranty etc...)? Then this might be the solution: The Turtle Beach Audio Advantage. It is an USB-plug with optical out/Line out. The whole thing is cheap as well: just 30 bucks. It is here: http://www.turtlebeach.com/site/products/a...producthome.asp On a sidenote: Europeans don't need to order, Turtle Beach ships with UPS-Express, that cost $72,-- alone...
  18. Yup. This one to be exact: http://www.minidisc.org/part_USB_Audio_Ada...ters_Xitel.html
  19. I have a problem with that one: According to the Website, MP3 with 160kBit/s is the maximum datarate when recording and for good sound quality, MP3 needs a lot more - about 320kBit for a sensitive ear. I suspect, that yours is modified, the biggest of the 300 series has only 40 GB.
  20. Does it look like one of these: http://www.minidisc.org/part_USB_Audio_Ada...ters_Xitel.html ? If yes, then you don't need any specific drivers, if you use Win2k or WinXP or the latest MacOSX. They all install as USB-Audio devices, that is a standard like the mass storage for the USB-Sticks, so the OS already can use them.
  21. A word about the ferrite cores: Europe has much tighter regulations about spurious emissions. You could leave out the cores completely and it will still fulfill the US FCC-regulations. For Europe, insert one in the power cable, another one in the line in cable and a third in the cable to an external amp/Hifi system. The cores should be close to the recorder, a few centimeters away is ok. The cable should be looped once around the core like MyStyler described it. The remote/headphone doesn't need a core, as the rules require conformity with a 2 meter wire attached to the unit. However, you might need a core around the headphone cable, if you record off a sensitive shortwave radio. In that case, a second core around the LineIn cable close to the radio might be necessary as well. On the other paw, the problem might be not existing at all, my R37 for example radiates nothing at all, a Yaesu FRG-7 and an Uniden 2010 showed no additional noise at all, but as usual, YMMV...
  22. Import into SonicStage, then transfer onto MD. SonicStage automatically converts the MP3 files into Atrac-LP2 or LP4, which one you can select before transfer, then the data is transferred to the disc. MD-players cannot natively play MP3, only Sony's own Atrac-format.
