    Reuse old earphones

The only way to get the cancelling headphones to work is to get a new standard plug fitted and be sure not to connect the microphone wire. Cutting of the platic protusion does not work Shames as these are great phones.

    NW-S706 Dies

Has anyone had a problem with their 706 just cutting out whilst listening. Fisrt time mine did this and then worked fine the next day. Then a month later and it went again. Now it is completely lifeless and has gone back to Sony under warranty. Had loads or Walkmans and Clies and this is my first failure. Is it a 706 weakness? Many thanks John
  6. Atrac CD burning no longer works . Give up
  7. Yes but it does this regardless of CD and before it has started to burn. It is a common problem from v3.4 onwards. Just can't believe Sony will do nothing. Yest they continue to sell ATRAC Car CD players but with no way of creating a disk
  8. The Create CD feature is there but it fails at 73% Will try for the re-register option but why do they do this. John
  9. Trying to transfer track that I have bought form Connect to my NW S706F and Sonic stage won't let me. FFS I have paid for these and yet I could transfer any illegal MP3s without this sort of hassle. Anyone else experienced this. This is the straw that is breaking the camels back for me. My main gripe is the inability to create ATRAC CDs. This has been outstanding for ages and Sony do nothing.
  10. Yes. They have a standard headphone jack!

  11. Well I have the MEX BT5000 and that is not Gapless either Why is it so difficult?
  12. I too have one of these units and love it. It is frustrating but then so are the ipooh equivalents. I find the best way to use it with my NW HD5 is with shuffle items on and then choose album search. This then chooses a random (well Sony's random ) album and plays it in full. Next album brings up another random album. I agree with 400 plus CDs on my player that navigation is a pain but until there is voice command this will always be the case. I do not find the HD5 easy to navigate with even when not driving. All things considered this is the best compromise considering the limitations on the player and the head unit. The fact that you cannot select line out when the remote socket is in use is a real pain and a typical Sony oversight which they will doubtless continue to ignore. All in all unless you like shuffle play I think any linked solution will always be lacking. I have also found connects2 in the UK to have exemplary customer service.
  13. transmitters are now legal, as of yesterday Realy need to know the head unit make. If it is a Sony then you can buy an adapter that threads the walman as a CD changer. Not an option with other makes. A lot of head units now have aux sockes in the back but if it is not your car it is probably not an option.
  14. Tracktimes can be seen if you have the RMC 35 remote control
  15. lp version An here are some pics. This is the phones in the case And here is the comparison of the driver apeture with the EX 71 You can see the mesh of the 90s vs the pin hole of the &1s
  16. Nearly forgot to add. One major difference between the MDR90s and the rest is the driver appeture. The MDR EX71 ets have a very small pin hole. This gets clogged with wax and other debris. The 90s have a much larger mesh appeture, much like a minature speaker grill. This looks less likly to get clogged up and would also explain the xtra loudness. I'll try and post a pic later today. John
  17. This is my initial view on the new MDR EX90s and how they compare to the Sony 70s and 71s Context The review covers sound quality and practicality. This is a very subjective review, as all such reviews invariably are. I am no audiophile but do appreciate good sound with rich bass and listen to a lot of music. My music taste is predominantly rock but with a mix of pop and soul. The review was done using a Sony NWHD5 with the euro sound cap removed. Sound setting was digital sound setting on custom with bass +3 and treble + 1 or 2 Baseline My trusty pair of MDR EXSP71 finally gave up the ghost on me last this week. The left earphone cable must have broken close to the driver. This was a great shame as I really liked this phones, they have served well for 2 years of almost daily use. I had bought a pair of Sure Ec2s in the quest for good sound at a reasonable price but (To my ears) the LP71 have a deeper richer sound, if a little lacking in treble. Now before purchasing a pair of MDR90s I went back to my old pair of MDR70s that I had before the 71sps came out. These were my first in-ear headphones and converted me to this format. I find this type of headphone very comfortable even during very long listening periods (On planes) and are also good when out bike riding or exercising in the Gym. On trying the 70s again, well oh dear, after the 71s these sounded muffled, some of this was due to wax build up but even with that removed it was better but still not up to the 71’s, the 70’s were almost too warm ! I tried the Shures’ again just in case but still not keen on them I have found that the MDR70/1s do need some burning in as well as correct choice of earbud and ear placement. I tend to use the medium buds but have experimented with the large too. It is essential the buds are pushed firmly into the ear canal to ensure a snug leak free fit. Both 70s and 71 gave me sufficient volume, especially with the volume unlocked on my HD5. Buying The MDR EX90 So I decided to search for a pair of MDR90s. These are new and hard to find in the UK. After many Google searches I ordered a set from an online retailer, which had stock showing and waited…. And waited. I finally cracked after 3 days and phoned them, only to find that they had no stock and would have no 90s for a further two weeks (This despite their site still showing stock available). I hate it when retailers do that. I decided to wait but on a shopping trip top Guildford I went for a mooch in the Sony Shop and high up in a glass cabinet was a Pair of MDR90s!!! I immediately bought them (59 pounds sterling). Now I had to wait to get home to see what they were like. First impressions The 90 look well cool and have a quality feel. The cord also seams a little stronger than the other two. A little less flexible than the 71s but not as rigid and prone to cracking as the 70s. The drivers stick out a lot further from the ears but not that I have noticed this to be inconvenient. The leather carry case is excellent, far far better than the little plastic affair of the 71/71s and is actually very useful and protects the drivers and the cable. Listening Wow, is all I can say. These are by far then best earphones I have heard. They sounded richer clearer and with deeper bass than either the 70s or 71s. This was on first listening too so they should get better when burned in well. What also struck me was the extra volume. On some older CDS the sound is very quiet, which is why I have the euro cap disabled. Well this is not the case with the 90’s. These puppies really kick out the volume. On modern CDs you can get the volume to an uncomfortably loud setting before the end of the volume bar. Only downside of this seams to be that they are nosier on the outside so not as suitable for tube travel maybe. Summary A quality cool looking pair of earphones. They have got me trawling through my CD collection again to listen to my favourite tracks and enjoy them that much more. They do everything the 71s did but that much better. I would highly recommend them, specially to those who already like the MRD EX 51/70.71 or 81s. They sound better, are louder and it appears less prone to cable breakage. John
  18. After several errors I backed up my database and then uninstalled SS4 and re-installed. Now it seams stable.
  19. Well another buggy release. "Omgjbox is encountering a problem" and SS closes. Plus Why oh Why is SS the only app that hogs my screen. I have my task bar at the top of the screen and it will not drop down if SS is maximised
  20. IMHO I would not recommend any case. Especially silicone ones. the trouble with silicone cases is that grit or sand gets under the cover without you realizing. Then when younext remove the player from the case it looks terrible so it is then confined to a case for life. Just go natural and enjoy the cool look. JV
  21. With the new devices comming out (NWa3000 etc). I had read that there would be a Sonic Stage replacement called connect - tying in with the connect website. Well following the new Connect Link download it leads to the Sonic Stage 3.2 installer So no SS replacement then I take it? John

    HD3 vs HD5

I have had both and there is very little to choose. There is a search function on the HD5 but is is pretty usless. There are also 5 playlists rather than the one (Called bookmark) on the HD3. Other than that I only upgraded to get a 30GB model. I actualy prefer the styling of the HD3 but would sumize by saying you can't go wrong with either. John
  23. This can be changed so that SS3.x see The Rolling stones in the R catagory. BUT it does not keep this when transferring to the NW HD5. Madness
  24. You can get refurbished (inc warrantee) 30gb HD5s on the Sonystyle Uk website under special offers for 179 pounds including VAT and postage. Great bargain. I have one and it is as new. John
  25. Do the new units take the standard MD and NWHDx remotes. Otherwise the new sony car adapter I have bought looks like an expensive mistake? JOhn
