    Police Use?

I am a Police Officer assigned to our Surrveilance & Electronic Support Unit. I am attempting to replace our tape recorders used to record our body wires. Budget restrictions prevent me from replacing all of our tape recorders at once. So I can not purchase several extra MDs as play back units. I picked up two Sony HI-MDs and I see a couple of problems. The one problem I have is that a recording made off of the "mic in" can only be uploaded once. Once a recording is made I need to be able to burn a "working copy" to a cd. This would be used for review and transcribing. The original MD would then have to be turned into the "Property Clerks" as evidence. The problem is, that most times several months latter when the trial or appeals occur, the DA's office can never locate the copy. A new copy must be made from the original. If the MD has already been uploaded, the second attempt will delete the file off the disc. My other option is to burn a second cd "copy" that will be sealed as evidence along with the original MD. This cd can be used for further copying needed at a latter time. I want to avoid this for a few reasons. Most "simple street buys" do not need to be copied as they never go to trial. The original is still turned in as evidence, but on ocassion they are signed out to have a copy made. I can see second upload attempts being made by mistake. This would be disasterous as the case would then be throwen out as the original evidence was destroyed. I am way too busy to be burning two cds for each job or making real time copies of recordings. Is there any way around the one time upload of the MD? I am not currently at work so I do not know the version of Sonic Stage we got. I changed the default folder the file is saved to on up load to a folder in MY Documents. I found that on an upload a Windows Media version is placed in that folder. This is what I burn to a cd for the "working copy".
