    Do or Die?

Congratulations for the Xmas bonus. Stick to the old PC and 1st gen (or 2nd gen) HiMD. Robust, reliable and removable MD. MiniDisk : one name, one legend. -
  3. Hi board, In a front page article in yesterday's Japan Times and other newspapers, Kyodo news reported that a government panel decided against expanding the range of products subject to royalty payments on digital recording devices to includes iPods and other new gadgets that use flash memory and hard disks. The surcharge per MD recorder is 400 yen (4$) and per minidisk 4 yen. The decision is surprising as existing taxes/surchages are upholded while problems with them are recognized. The total levy amounted to 2.3 billion yen (20 million USD) for FY03. <a href="http://www.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/getarticle.pl5?nn20051202a2.htm">The article on JT website</a> Kudos for the great job by admins and moderators.
  4. Hey, hi board, Looks like the tinyhttp.exe is a very heavy memory user (120MB to 300MB). Has anyone info on this .exe? Can one run connect without this program? Is this another piece of spyware/rootkit/sonyware? This board is really great. Go on ...
  5. This is wishfull thinking at best. MD is obviously still the most popular media in Japan. And the new HD products Sony are pushing are also very fashionable (especially the HD Oled based face). For iTunes sales, as no data are provided, this is propaganda/marketing.
  6. My low cost configuration: Toshiba laptop, Window XP SP1 0.4GHz Pentium II, 192MB Ram 8GB hard drive - 2 GB free ;-) It has been a pain to run SS2.x on SP1. Upgrade to SS3.0 was OK. Have SS3.3 installed this weekend from Sony website. Thanks MDCF for the link. No problems with it! It seems to be much faster than 3.0 for encoding and transfering MP3 (hour long radio shows (strangely called Podcast)) onto my HiMD units.
  7. My favorite hi-md player is the MZ-NH900. It is robust and doesnt collect finger prints as my MZ-RH10 and my iPods. The three line screen on the extension is very easy to read with back light at night.
  8. Dont you find it strange that antivirus firms NEVER find out this rootkit and didnt react upon discovery... My guess is that it was OK for Sony to open a back orifice on each of their customer PC. Isn't there any DRM management in SS? Is this DRM stuff fully documented? No, of course... Sony doesn't give a shit about its customers.

  10. Who knows ??? Sony installed rootkits on more than 500000 PCs. And infringed copyright for software... http://www.pcpro.co.uk/news/80271/sonys-dr...fringement.html May be SonicStage is bloodily infected with another rootkit but antivirus firms never told us... Most probably yes....

    How About Psp?

What about the GranTourismo series or ICO? Sony's games rock. Eryn.
  12. This doesn't work with Firefox as IE5.5+ is SONY's mandatory browser. LOL.
  13. Isn't this in the FAQ already? I use it after downloading a full set of mp3. I ran this software overnight to create very slowly the required format for HiMD transfer. Sonyc Stage can't do it properly so far, but maybe in version 3.0, it will be easier ... Bad software kills good/excellent/brilliant hardware. Eryn.
  14. Here in Tokyo, after discount, at a large retailer west of Shinjuku station, 1GB discs are avalaible at 625 yen, i.e. US$5.95, for a 105 yen/USD fx. I didn't check yet around Akihabara. Eryn.
  15. Yes, indeed, very funny. Out of the box, the SS 2.1 NEVER worked for me. But 22 millions happy SS users never complained, as Sony likes to remind us...
  16. dex Otaku, thank you for your frankness. I ran a Dynabook Satellite 4100X with Windows XP SP1, well maintained, and SS WILL NOT RUN JUST FINE. I had to pick up a specific patch to run omg software on Microsoft website. (for your info, I couldn't "upgrade" to XP SP2. I tried and I lost my network connections, my internet access and so on). I'm in the 1% , Sony would say the 0.00000000001% of unlucky users of this wonderfull sofware because I use a bad hardware and a wrong OS. Eryn Vorn.
  17. What about SuperSonic. Why: it's quick, safe and wonderful.
  18. Mouarfffffffffff. I couldn't install SonicStage on my PC out of the box. It's not a problem, it's a total disaster. And I erased my first live recording by uploading it twice: so cool. My kids NEVER had an issue using iTunes. These Sony guys are pathetic ... Eryn.

    Podcasting

I got them transfered in Atrac and in the Sonicstage library with the Sony MP3 Conversion tool: http://sonyelectronics.sonystyle.com/walkmanmc/mp3.html I added the folder where ipodder is storing the downloaded MP3s and it went on smoothly. I added another file and the tool translated only the last new file. iPodder allows one command line after download in preferences tab but I couldn't launch the conversion tool automatically yet. The soft did also populate wmd and iTunes libraries. Nice piece of software. Now, to capitalize on my nice piece of Sony Hardware, I'll record my first set of minidiscasts and post them on my web site. And I'll have to figure out the RSS coding issue... Eryn

    Podcasting

    > >Then you'll need: >http://ipodder.sourceforge.net/index.php Well , downloading and installing is OK. I selected few podcasts and downloaded them in mp3 format. In order to automate the mp3 to Atrac transfer, I wished to launch Sony MP3 Conversion tool with the command line proposed by the advance option of the preference tab of the iPodder. Any hint? Should I use another tool (I'm still discovering the format)? Any way, I launched it manually and I included the download folder of ipodder. I'll have my files ready for transfer tomorrow morning . 21. Hello, I bought a MD MZ-NH900. The software delivered with the MD (Sonicstage 2.1) wasn't working when I connected the MD through USB. I looked around and decided to upgrade. I visited a Sony page web site and upgraded to 2.3: http://esupport.sony.com/perl/modelpage.pl?mdl=MZNH900 . The soft kept crashing. I found the solution with Microsoft knowledge database. The link to solve the issue in my partculiar case (PC under XP pro pack1 with MS04-032 Security Update for Windows (KB840987) installed): http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en It is very frustating not to find any information on Sony web sites.
