Good point. I will run a trial with my notebook. Edit: Ok, some points of clarification for "rubadubdub." --> You can definitely use SonicStage 3.1 to convert VBR Mp3s to ATRAC/3+. However, you cannot directly transfer/convert VBR Mp3s or non-VBR Mp3s from your music library to the RH10 as ATRAC/3+. You will have to convert those VBR Mp3s or non-Mp3s to ATRAC/3+ first within SonicStage 3.1. @ MDfreak: Thanks for pointing out that SonicStage 3.1 can convert VBR Mp3s to ATRAC/3+. One just can't transfer/convert existing VBR Mp3s or non-VBR Mp3s to the second generation Hi-MD device directly as ATRAC/3+. I have to first convert them into ATRAC/3+ with SonicStage 3.1 before doing so. Can you confirm if this is the case with your system?

Welcome to MDCF! The Japanese and N. American RH10 is essentially identical. Significant differences that I can think of now include: 1) Japanese RH10 has the RM-MC35ELK matching color remote vs. N. American RH10 with non-LCD remote. 2) Japanese RH10 has the charging cradle vs. no such cradle for the N. American RH10 3) Japanese RH10 obviously supports Japanese/Chinese characters vs. no Asian language support for the N. American RH10. * However, you can change the destination settings of the N. American RH10 to attain Asian language support. Run a search within the forum for instructions. 4) Japanese RH10 comes in four color scheme: Silver, Black, Blue and Orange. vs. N. American RH10 only comes in Black color. * For detail pictures of the charging cradle, please review the blue RH10 pictorial I have created by the Product Reviews/Pictorials section of the forum.

This is not a problem per se. SonicStage 3.1 just do not convert VBR Mp3s to ATRAC/3+. You will need to use a third party software such as dBpowerAMP Music Converter to convert your VBR Mp3s to non-VBR Mp3s; then use SonicStage 3.1 to convert it to ATRAC/3+.

Heh... amusing. Ah... so you finally got to see the Pocket. Brilliant little thing right? In addition, did you get to see the elusive blue HiMD while in the mother-ship?

Fancy an alternate form of MD storage? The Muji clear acrylic MD storage box provides a modern way to store your MD collection up to 117 MDs per box. The sizes are consistent so you can stack or place side by side - dimensions: 27x35x6 cm. Muji has a UK site and the good news is that they ship outside the UK and Europe. So, if this is your thing, the storage box can be purchased for £13.95.

My Hi-MD Walkman MZ-RH10 | Blue Pictorial
Ishiyoshi replied to Ishiyoshi's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
I acquired the blue RH10 directly from an online store in Japan. In addition, you will need to have a local address to conclude the transaction. Almost 99% of Japanese etailer do not ship internationally. I assume you don't have a local Japanese address and will need to resort to another alternative. However, do not despair as you can still get the blue unit for $334 (inclusive of $35 shipping) at eBay. The seller seems legitimate. Give it a try. -
My Hi-MD Walkman MZ-RH10 | Blue Pictorial
Ishiyoshi replied to Ishiyoshi's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
--> MZ-RH10 will charge via USB once connected to the PC. --> You would not need an additional universal AC Adaptor as the Japanese version like all other version comes bundled with a 110-240V AC Adaptor. -
Welcome to the forum! I assume you have resolved the issue in question by now. If not, please follow the following thread. In addition, read from post 7 of this thread. Cheers from your friendly moderator.

Sony MD Walkman MZ-R900 Pictorial
Ishiyoshi replied to Ishiyoshi's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
Brilliant! The red is indeed gorgeous eh. For this photo shoot, I took the charging cradle from my R910. -
I reckon this is an isolated problem and the battery in question has been faulty from the onset. In addition, there should be no detrimental effect to the MD unit when left on the charging cradle for an indefinite period. Of course, for obvious reason, you should ensure that the rechargeable battery do not recharge when it’s still somewhat full – either monitor the charge or unplug the power cord from the cradle accordingly. * I am moving this thread to the appropriate section of the forum since it is related to battery issue.

I am moving this thread to the appropriate section. Please clarify if your problem is 1) SonicStage's failure to detect your NetMD/HiMD unit or 2) it just won't recognize any MD media once inserted into the NetMD/HiMD unit. If the problem is the former, please follow possible solutions to your problem within this thread. If your problem is the latter, your unit's optical block may have expired, thus, rendering your unit dead.

Acquiring a HDD based Mp3 player is not a bad idea and it can definitely co-exist with your current MD collection. I own the VAIO Pocket, VGF-AP1L and it's simply an amazing device. In my opinion, the build itself is a strong factor to get it. In addition, it sounds great and to my ears, it's somewhat fuller than the NH1 and about the same with the RH10. As for software interface, you get to utilize the relatively easy to use VAIO MusicMove software - a drag-and-drop sort of interface. Nonetheless, SonicStage 3.1 is really easy to use and much better than any previous version. It's more efficient and faster or smoother if you will. I will go on to attest that with a HDD-based Mp3 device, it does not necessarily mean you will utilize the MD format any less or give up your MD collection. I still employ both accordingly. If you want a HDD based Mp3 player, I would recommend that you take a look at the VAIO Pocket. I believe in Japan, we get the AP1 version instead of the AP1L version (20GB vs. 40GB respectively). Have fun with which ever choice you take. After all, it is music you are enjoying.

Entering Service Mode On A Hi-MD Player
Ishiyoshi replied to Christopher's topic in Essential Hi-MD info/FAQ's.
According to kurisu, MDCF will provide all 1st and 2nd generation service manuals shortly. -
Price of NiMH rechargeable batteries varies depending on brand and its capacity. I have seen prices from $3.49 to $15.00 per battery. If you are looking for extra spare batteries, I reckon the 1400mAh capacity is the way to go unless you want something larger in capacity like the 1750mAh. You can get the 1400mAh for $7.95 at The Electronic Goldmine and $15.00 for the 1750mAh. For the 1750mAh, see further details here.

Welcome to the forum! To answer your main query --> The NH1 will likely see no firmware update. What do you mean by gibberish titles? What sort of fonts were you trying to utilize? Japanese/Chinese based characters? Please elaborate and we will assist accordingly.

Like KJ, I discovered the existence of MDCF via the banner on Minidisc.Org. In addition, I hear good old Moltar from T-Board is running the show over MDCF. And to my delight, the forum is so much more structured and provides quality discussion that I yearned. So, that's my story. Cheers, Ishii

This is brilliant news indeed. However, we will need either a UMD writer or some sort of emulator to test those .iso files. Nonetheless, great development.

Sonicstage 3.1 - Missing Library !?!?!? - Pls Help
Ishiyoshi replied to KeanosMagicHat's topic in Software
One more option: try and reconfigure the "location to save imported files." You can find this option in the Options tree of SonicStage. Accordingly, create a new folder and move all your ATRAC files into the new folder. I am not sure if that will help save your existence archive. Nevertheless, Good luck. -
A short answer to your problem: Faulty or dying optical block. It appears to me that your unit's optical block is wearing out. Since you mentioned you bought your unit about a year ago, if the warranty is still valid, utilize it immediately.
