well, Sony may stop caring, but MDCF sure won't I for one will keep providing advice to the best of my knowledge, as long as I have a working HiMD device near me... and by the time it dies, this forum will become flash-based-super-recorder-community-forums (or FBSRCF for short )
-
please, check the latest state of the software before you vent your ideas as since SS3.2 it is possible to upload your own reocrdings as many times as you want and you can rip your CD's without DRM and since SS3.0 you can convert your own recordings to DRM-free wav's... so your gripes have been solved
-
well, I've started something like it overhere... but at this moment it is more to assemble a bunch of stuff/ideas so we have it handy when the official announcement comes
-
kurisu will probably send you the SS3.2 standalone installer from these forums he administrates so I'd take him up on his offer if you really have no option to download... sade.duo, please upgrade to 3.2 if you can (just check the downloads section)! it is much much improved since 2.0 (and all SS versions<2.3 are known to randomly ruin uploads)
-
with that sort of action I would definitely wait for an official announcement... besides if kurisu tips his connections on the existence of a thread here on MDCF it will be very useful as well
-
I just started a pre-official announcement 'petition'... it's actually just a thread in which we can assemble info on ppl's setups and the uses of MD that can't yet be replaced by other exiting alternatives... please do not clutter the thread with discussion, just post your info there, do not post if you do not agree and discuss in this thread
-
just post your setup(s if you have more than one), why/what you use (Hi)MD for and whether there exists any alternative for your use-pattern ------------------------------------------------------my .02's MZ-NH900 + RM-MC40ELK remote + 15 1gb discsdaily use: listening to music while traveling (standard portable audio player)favorite (and frequent) use: recording live shows/live music/ambient noises/.... in high quality (PCM or HiSP)professional use: recording lectures/debates/interviews/... for personal use and publicationalternatives? portable player: yes; high quality recording: none affordable/portable...!!!so my wish: just keep HiMD alive at least for (semi)pro recording use and develop some higher capacity media PS: IMHO forget about photo etc... and all other non-vital glamour stuff, just make the best recording tool available (with all recording-options in one good model)... jump in the void DAT left
-
ok, perhaps we should wait a sec before sending this stuff to Sony HQ's... but I see no harm in describing them what we all use (Hi)MD for (mainly high quality recording I guess) and ask what the future alternatives will be if HiMD would disappear and whether they do not think that the (semi)pro market could be interesting as that one is clearly underprovided by the i-puddle so why not start a thread here in which everyone can post their MD setup(s), uses, etc. so that when time comes, whe at least have our answer ready...
-
I suggested this some time before the end was this near... but if it is any conselation... Sony employees do read these forums! but a little 'HELLO, there are some HiMD lovers here' could always be useful, so I'll sign...
-
I guess you speak for a whole lot of MDCF-members (and other MD-users) out there! but to answer your question...because we use the stuff dailywe care about the stuff....really care!we do not want Sony to make profit by lowering production costs, but by listening to consumers...which is proposterous in the business worldadd whatever appropriate
-
at least we got an SS version that allows multiple uploads and un-DRM'ed ripping of music before they decided to stop caring thanks MDCF for pressuring Sony into giving us those benefits!
-
just have a look in the downloads section...a standalone installer (no further internet required) for SS3.2 is available there
-
sorry lamewing, I surely didn't mean it that harshly...but I meant k. has let us read between the lines long enough to be absolutely sure there won't be (Sony) MD in the future... no need to have even more confirmation IMHO... next question is: will it only be dumped as a consumer product (and HiMD will stay as a higher priced semi-pro recording tool) or is it total anihilation? and what will be the alternative for us amateur recordists PS: I feel sorry for the DAT-tapers that had just made the switch to HiMD (there were a few here on MDCF IIRC) and they have to move on once again (at least when their current set-ups die)
-
Sony won't stop existing...MD will, so why wouldn't connections matter anymore? k. is the owner of a HD-based player as well as an NH900 and runs atraclife forums and MDCF... I guess it matters even more than ever... don't we all want to know what type of recorder will replace PCM-HiMD before everyone else?
-
as they aren't selling any (Hi)MD's , there should be no concerned (Hi)MD-customers and no (stock-market) problems when they announce they demise of the format... so Sony: just bite the bullet and let us know whether we can expect HiMD to stay as a (semi)pro-recording tool or if there are 'other technology based alternatives' planned... because, as should be clear by now, even without harassing kurisu for more precise answers (give the guy a break, he's kept us up to date as much as he could without ruining his relations), (Hi)MD as a standard consumer product is no longer *sigh*

^^^^ very good choice! I believe they are coming to Belgium in a while...I will definitely be there
-
what isn't working? I guess you already know that when you plug in the adapter, you have to press 'stop' to start charging...
-
if only this was up in July... that's when I ordered mine (in blue) from ebay but just to give some support: these are my n°1 phones at the moment, I even use them at home in stead of my big Senn HD497's (and when shipped in that box, they are very securely packaged)
-
death from above 1979: you're a woman, I'm a machine (UK limited edition)
-
I guess the main problem could be editing on the recorder and then recording till the end... perhaps it 'overloads' the disc as it has some edited info stored or something, sounds quite illogical, but there have been quite some bugs with HiMD and editing on the recorder known ... so just record, upload then edit on the PC and it could be solved
-
^^^^ just mail all your questions about the construction to these guys, I'm sure they will gladly provide you with additional info and pics they have a whole range of mics, so maybe they have a model that is suited for your intended use, so just describe how you would like to use them make sure to check with your customs office, as perhaps the taxes in Italy aren't that high and ordering from SP isn't that expensive (SP sometime offer mics on ebay as well with better shipping costs and perhaps even packaging as a gift, A440 knows their username, so PM him with a question if needed)
-
is that price including all customs, taxes,...? just check a customs office near you visivox gives you more bang for your buck, but I've never used them so I can't really promise anything just hav a look at this thread for more stealth ideas and the rubber thingy is heat shrink tube, which you can buy in a DIY or electronics store
-
I do not know about Italy, but here in Belgium there was 21% VAT and also quite some import taxes so they almost doubled in price... I opted fo the DIY-solution in stead... well, I got some DIY-by-greenmachine-mics the visivox mics on ebay look almost the same as the BMC-2's and even have the sourcefollower mod, so they might be interesting as well (and they will probably ship as a gift so no taxes)
-
sorry, no experience with this myself... I do not have any technology that requires MP3, so I never use that (and as such I do not need to recode it either) sorry
-
why not convert them to wav and just import them in SS, convert them to HiSP on the PC and transfer? the codecs in SS3.2 have had more development time than the ones in the recorder itself, and by converting to wav first you don't lose any quality (but you could actually just import them into SS as MP3's and let SS do the conversion) what makes you think recording in realtime would improve SQ?
