  1. I had been thinking about such a thread as well... but unfortunately only right after I got back from my holiday in the South of France, so I forgot to pose with the HiMD clearly visible... but here it goes [attachmentid=865] NH900 by the pool in 'Villefranche Sur Mer' (Côte d'Azur/France) the player (NH900) itself is actually well hidden in a protective pouch in the shade underneath my left arm... so I'm not even sure whether this qualifies (you CAN see the headphone cable go up to my ears )
  2. search the software faq's for recent threads about the same recognition problem... there is a workaround involving the German 3.0 version and I guess you can find it if you look into these other posts well, I looked it up for you: here it is
  3. - if you do have an internet connection: the official connect SS3.2 net installer doesn't seem to cause any recognition difficulties - if you do not have a connection, but you can install the German SS3.0, just install the standalone 3.2 over it (a couple of times till it works) yes it is strange to do such a thing and yes it is a drag, but SS3.2 really is that much better than ANY previous version (un-DRM'ed importing of audio, unlimited uploading of your own recordings etc...) if it fails, you still can revert to whatever you want (with a clean install) but I can't see any reason not to try to get SS3.2 working
  4. this won't work, as handling the remote (according to my own experiences) or even just having the remote attached (according to dex) will induce noises that can clearly be heard especially in quiet recordings just use a long enough cable for the mics and do not place the recorder and mics on the same hard surface (like a table) as sound often travels through that
  5. i dunno what price that NH1 will drop to of course, but if you want that remote fast, safe and from a very well respected (on ebay and here on MDCF as well) ebay-seller just check this BTW: I got my RM-MC40ELK from him
  6. hi luvredhead, welcom to MDCF but I'm sorry, no other solution than rerecording them to PC in realtime, just read this thread
  7. throw in some normal sized slipcases in stead of those audiocasette size things or offer to ship 'em in them directly, this could lower shipping costs and lots of ppl prefer the smaller slipcases I'm afraid that I personally still wouldn't buy them, as I just ordered five more from minidisc.au
  8. just give ss3.2 ontop of the german version a shot, as 3.2 has a whole bunch of improvements over 3.0
  9. hi, and welcome to MDCF, this thread belongs more or less in the 'find your minidisc' or 'live recording' sections I guess, so perhaps the mods will move it could you clarify what exactly you mean by this? each press of pause or manual trackmark will create a new 'track' which can be rased later...but if you plan to transfer to PC: do all editing (like erasing trackmarks, etc) on the PC after uploading, as it might ruin the recording otherwise
  10. saviour... there is only a problem between macs and HiMD as the mac system can't run SonicStage... there is absolutely no problem recording your MD analoguely in realtime into your mac (if it has a line in) if you do not have any good recording/editing program, you can use Audacity as well, just follow the link (the underlined word audacity ) and pick the mac download I transfer my g-friends JVC/MDLP interviews to her G4 powerbook using Audacity all the time Hope this helps!
  11. it might seem so indeed... but that guy was trying to get his player fixed, not exchanged
  12. sorry man, but not reading the specs before you buy and then being stuck with a machine you can't use is not a sufficient reason to deliberately go breaking stuff to get a refund/change... sell it or give it away but don't trash it
  13. - the digital TR-method requires playback through SS which isn't possible with non-HiMD recordings I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) - but that doesn't even matter really, as both mentioned methods will of course only record what you can hear... so all audible faults will be present as well
  14. a real undetectable way? just use extensively, day in day out, till it just stops (probably in about three to five years time) then buy the most recent decent model around... please don't ask such questions on a forum full of MD-loving ppl, I (like many other ppl here) treat my player with much respect and will never damage it on purpose... you want a new one, save for it, do not misuse Sony's trust, as it is already difficult enough to find consumer electronics with good warranty!
  15. glad to hear that bobt... it must have been terrible to sit in uncertainty for so long
  16. it doesn't have the 'goup forward/backward' buttons the NH900's remote has... but it has a scrollwheel, which functions exactly as scrolling to tracks/groups with the scrollwheel on the NH900 player itself and if you look at my signature, you'll see I'm quite happy with the way the RM-MC40ELK works together with the NH900
  17. the RM-MC40ELK has (like all remotes) an individual hold button, and a button that can be used to 'ignite' the backlight without anything else being 'done'... so yes, it could help out for checking levels without disturbing anything but: - I believe the RH10 won't allow you to choose continuous backlight for the RM-MC40ELK (which can be done on the NH1 and NH900 and which is even easier to check levels at all times) - for louder circumstances there is no problem using the remote, but when recording more silent stuff, I've noticed somekind of 'digital jitter' when the remote is moved or when you tough the remote cable (even with the magnetic clamps on) *BTW: your phone doesn't even have to 'ring' for disturbance to happen... every now and then, the wireless phone network will make contact with your phone... I do not know why, but my phone is right by my radio at night and every now and then I hear the staticky sound coming fromthe speakers when they are active...eventhough nothing apparently happens to my phone
  18. ok, I misread your post and I thought you were talking about write-speed... but: this is not correct! even when reading, HiMD discs need to be heated (best to first read all you can about the technology before you make assumptions like that) the above quote and further info (including a very simple and revealing animation) about the medium can be found at the minidisc.org HiMD faq's so it does have to be heated for a readout, but agreed, not to the same temperature as for writing there's even more... so the requirements to keep the medium (discs) small and the recorders portable (so not draining their batteries within five secs) slows down the read speed even more so my conclusion: USB2 is useless for HiMD... but nevertheless it's one heck of a medium/recorder
  19. well, I started out my 'carreer' here on MDCF with an inquiry into this problem... just read this thread I actually sent my unit back to Sony and they repaired it (under warranty)... it has worked quite flawlessly ever since (had two dropouts, but that's all...no button malfunctions anymore)
  20. as Dex explained earlier in this same thread so it is due to the medium itself: the HiMD disc needs to be heated etc... to write data/music, so you simply can't 'speed up' that process... using USB2 to flood the internal processor with more data wouldn't help anything, as it simply can't be used/written away any faster... so forget 'faster data-HiMD' (unless you would install a 1gb ram ) and use it for what it was intended: live recording, not data storage... that's what we've got flash-sticks/ portable HD's for (even though you can of course use HiMD for data storage, but stop whining about the slow write speeds)
  21. an .oma that can't be played by SS can't be converted by SS nor by HiMDRenderer... if that would be possible, we wouldn't need SS to import recordings at all, we could simply drag-n-drop 'em, not?
  22. euro law stemming from French legislation for the good of the ppl because it protects or hearing... it suck real hard though if you wish to use less efficient headphones or a line out into aux on your stereo and such
  23. have you performed a clean install of the German version? (as described here)
  24. that link seems ok, and if you have an internet connection, it's always wise to use such an official installer *edit: just try to install ontop of your existing SS if you have one, if that doesn't work, try a clean install as explained here
