  1. that is a very thorough and clear description of your problem! I'm very sorry to inform you that there has not yet been found any way of recovering HiMD discs yet... if you have other discs, just put this one aside for the time when such recovery might become possible (for the same reason, save the oma file on your PC somwhere safe as well) in the meantime, keep asking Sony whether they can restore the disc for you or give you the means to do it yourself... if a lot of ppl keep doing this, they might cave in, as I'm pretty sure they have some sort of prgram for this, but they won't share it, as it might reveal their copy protection scheme ... and (not very helpfull right now, I know)... for future uploads: do not edit on the recorder, except for titling, ever before uploads and removing trackmarks is mostly the culprit this is a major bug on all HiMD-models (or less likely in SS) and it has been known to ruin uploads quite often! always use this uploading method and you won't run into those problems and also very important! upgrade to SS3.2 as it allows unlimited uploading of your own recordings, while all versions before that will allow only one upload and will even erase the recording at a second try
  2. yep (but only recordings made in HiMD mode with the HiMD of course!), just install SS3.2, connect the HiMD through USB, select the tracks to be uploaded and press transfer... and presto best way to upload is described here
  3. I do know there are some differences between amps, but I forgot what exactly, but as far as recording is concerned...all HiMD provide very good quality (in HiSP or PCM) well, AA's can go up to 2800mAh (rechargable) and gumsticks to 1400mAh, so you can do the maths I guess... but all models with a gumstick battery come with an AA addon, so you can use the 1400mAh gumstick and the 2800 (or in my case 2500)mAh rechargable AA so no need to worry about that... just be carefull with the NH1, it has a proprietary LiIon batt and no AA-addon the SS version isn't dependent on the HiMD model... forget the CD that comes with it and immediately install SS3.2! it has a lot of improvements over all previous versions (and especially over 2.0 ) just check these forums for reviews of 3.2 and download links) *edit: for comparissons of the NH900/700 and the RH10 just read this thread and this one hope this helps
  4. haha, I must have overlooked this reply before g. I do think the 'manufacturers' would react very strangely if I asked them for permission... besides, they only provided the basic material, all upgrades have been my own work but seriously...I guess I won't let the pro/contra-taping stance of bands influence my recording behaviour, just that when I do know they don't mind or even support sharing, I perhaps will contribute with my recordings and otherwise it will remain my private souvenir
  5. I guess the biggest issue here is that SB only allows LP2 on MD-mode discs and not on HiMD-formatted ones (while SS does)
  6. @redfootball... I do not know whether a DIY solution even exists, or whether it would be a good idea to attempt it yourself as your previous attempt didn't work out that well, did it now so if it's still under warranty, you could always take it in for repairs and go: "well mister, I do not really know a lot of electronic machinery...but when I popped in a disc last night all I got was this (show the error) and I do know that it isn't supposed to say that... perhaps it didn't like the music on that disc? It was Mariah Carrey or something, so that could be it " well, without the Mariah bit of course, but just play dumb and do not mention you went into service mode yourself... it could well be that they repair it under warranty hope this helps,
  7. welcome to MDCF 'industrial techno junkie', - most important, as Syrius already asked: is it a HiMD player? (you can check here, if it's not one of these models, you're out of luck and need to use the realtime method explained here) - second: if it was a HiMD, was the disc recorded in HiMD mode? (older 60/74/80 min discs can be recorded in legacy MD modes (SP/LP) with first gen (NH-models) HiMD recorders, but these recordings cannot be USB-transferred, so back to the realtime method) - third: if it was HiMD and HiMD mode, please post full specs and a very clear description of the problem as it occured (according to the rules for posting support questions) just let us know! @ ynos: I understand you really want to be helped with that problem ynos, but you've described your problem in I guess three or four other threads already... if you have a support question, please follow the following steps: - search if the problem has been 'cured' before and if it is, follow the solution... - if it isn't, but the exact (or very! close) problem already has a thread going, add your experience/problem in that thread (the problem described by itj in this thread probably is something else completely, so your question almost hijacks the thread, and gives itj less chance to get his problem solved, as ppl are distracted by yours) - if there isn't any thread going about the problem, open one new thread following all the rules for posting in the support section and please remember: this is a forum... ppl can take a while to answer and sometimes simply noone knows what you should/could do... posting your problem everywhere won't speed up the process or better your chances in any way... I'm sorry if this sounds harsh, that wasn't intended... I have no bad feelings, if only you try to follow the steps I mentioned above in the future... but leeching on/hijacking of threads is very annoying in general, and it is especially so when happening in a thread of a first-time poster, as it can scare them away from MDCF completely and this forum doesn't want as much registrations as possible, we want as much active users as possible... so please play nice... but enough ranting
  8. I do not really know whether any recorder would benefit from being used as landing gear for a drunk punk IMHO the RH10, NH900 are still the best HiMD's out there... I personally use an NH900 (with the RM-MC40ELK, the NH1's remote) and some DIY mics/ battery box (provided by greenmachine) and you could always listen to some of my recordings in the live recordings gallery you have to perform a number of steps within the menus to set manual rec levels, but you can do that before the show and once in that mode, you can adjust levels on the fly... with punk (and any loud music), I would definitely recommend a battery box, low sensitivity mics and using the line in (you can check my setup, which is mainly intended for loud(er) music as well even though my live rec gallery doesn't show it yet, in this thread) *edit: unless you want to transfer all recordings in realtime to your PC, you have no other option as Sony's HiMD models...
  9. just to let you know I added a number of songs (from different artists) to my pukkelpop 2005 live recording gallery feel free to leave feedback or questions
  10. hi crowfriend, welcome to MDCF, for answers to all questions about the basics of the format... the Minidisc.org faq's are a good read once you understand the difference between MD (minidisc), MDLP and HiMD, read this thread as it will teach you that only HiMD will allow faster than realtime MD->PC transfers of your own recordings (through USB) and if you check the minidisc.org equipment browser you can see all HiMD models currently available (all Sony!) for reviews/comments/experiences... look at this subsection of these forums or use the search function as there are a whole lot of posts/threads with recommendations/reviews already hope this helps
  11. at Spark and Flameg. and everyone else contributing to the discussion... I guess you both (/all) have made your points... if you want perfection, look around for one of the real/unaltered 44.1kHz type cards, if not... just get a cheap good one but please, let's quit this 'bickering' and stick to more 'useful' posts... remember this is a stickied recommendation post for all members, private discussions can be held in private (PM) so mods, please remove my post... and perhaps some of the endless discussion as well
  12. just have a look at this post for importing ideas
  13. hi siup, welcome to MDCF, but to disappoint you: nope, this is not possible... we are all trying to get Sony to incorporate this in future models, but for all existing HiMD models you will have to go into the menus to get manual rec levels each time after a stop
  14. haha, the g-friend (or wife) not understanding the MD focus... I guess we all know that one... I've just checked out your band's site (well the downloads section and profiles anyway... I like to know who I'm helping ) and you sound pretty decent (which could be considered a big compliment, as I'm actually more into the harder stuff myself) and i like the web/music-creative combo... hope you get along with your new purchase and let us all in on some repitition secrets ... BTW, if you know someone who can solder, greenmachine has posted some brilliant easy DIY instructions for MD-suited mics (just see my signature) so you can capture live performances aswell
  15. well, as I said, glad to have helped and I guess the pics you saw are made by Ishi himself if I'm not mistaken... but any further pics and a fresh review is always welcome and if you are any good we would always welcome some fragments posted in the gallery section... hope to read/hear more of you here on MDCF in the future
  16. if you have a first gen HiMD (NH...)/older MD-model you can record real SP on a old type MDisc (60/4/80min) through line in, mic in or optical in -> connect any player (cd, PC,...) through the correct type of cable (3.5mm->3.5mm minijack or optical cable) into the correct port on the recorder and record with correct levelsif you have a second gen HiMD (RH...) or any other NetMD/HiMD you can record fake SP through SS onto a old type MDisc (60/74/80min) in MD mode (not HiMD mode) -> connect the HiMD and transfer the music using SShope this was clear enough...
  17. indeed, it looks so small (or you have very big hands )! would it fit a NH900?
  18. read up on this subject on the battery university as well
  19. look at your deck specs... are you sure it isn't an SP only deck, just record an MD in SP (or fake SP through SS) and try that...
  20. haha...it doesn't really matter, I appreciate this 'box' very much! It is long and thin so still easily hideable even though that does look small, beautiful and very handy! I must definitely learn how to solder soon (I have some relatives that will teach me and lend me some practice equipment...though I do not know when)
  21. your welcome Ishi... glad to have helped
  22. I think i speak for anyone that chipped in... glad to have helped and do let us know and if you should have the possibility... do post a revew/ pictorial when you have got it... we've seen quite some black ones, but the blue one is more rare
  23. I frequently switch between .be and .com so I guess it will be ok
  24. don't worry... he mostly has a bunch of players (once an auction ends, he puts up another one) and all colors keep returning, so no problem I live in Belgium and shipping the RM-MC40ELK remote took about 5 days (and was insured and trackable) I dunno if I understood the login part correctly, but I guess your e-bay login is the same whether you use a home or work connection and even whether you use e-bay worldwide, uk, ... *edit: an RM-MC40ELK remote (the best one to get) woud cost another $75 so the Japanese import won't cost too much I guess... and you get the color you want and the extras
  25. I read in another thread that you own a NetMD... so HiSP (the best quality when using HiMD) is out of the question... too bad, as that one can be obtained by USB-transfer your best choice, SP, can only be obtained in realtime recording... the software (and USB-transfer) do offer an SP, but it is only disguised LP2, so it will take up more space, but it won't sound better than LP2 if you want to ease the process (by using HiSP) and also be able to upload your own recordings faster than realtime... it could be interesting to look out for a cheap HiMD (just do not get an NH600 as it hasn't got a mic in) hope this helps
