  1. I believe he includes the correct adapter... about the old charger, I dunno... I guess you should compare all specifications
  2. a number of ppl here on MDCF have bought their Japanese import from buyfromjapan, an e-bay seller that is very reliable (I bought my RM-MC40ELK remote from him). At the moment (when I was writing this) he has only got a black RH10's for sale, but just check his e-bay store (follow the link I provided) from time to time, as I'm sure the colored ones will soon pop up again as I was typing this, the blue RH10 has just popped up again, for $299 indeed I believe they are $299 + shipping (it also includes the color matched LCD remote and charging stand which you do not get with a N-Am/European version)... perhaps you could find them for less, but you know you can trust this seller I believe he ships it with an English manual, and the manual could always be found on the net I guess yep, no problem... and if he doesn't include instructions how to change the settings, just search these forums, as Ishiyoshi has written down these a number of times already the software is simply SonicStage an SimpleBurner and they aren't related to the hardware used at all, so you could just install SS3.2 and SB2.0 from the links provided in these forums... even now, before you buy it, just to get the hang of it, so you can start from the moment you get your acquisition hope this helps
  3. legacy MD mode recordings cannot be uploaded through USB and have no real use except for making recordings that are playable on older equipment and it is also the only way to obtain real SP (which isn't really that important unless you have some very good older equipment like a shelve-unit to play the discs back) for recording I would indeed consider the two models you mentioned (the NH900 and the RH10) but I would add something... the two things to choose between (IMHO) should be: NH900 + RM-MC40ELK: this combination provides you with a very good recorder (NH900) the biggest drawback of which, the non-backlit display on the recorder, can be compensated with the RM-MC40ELK. The three line backlit remote is a very nice addition as it can show you recording levels in dark situations and is very easy to use.RH10 (Japanese import or + RM-MC40ELK?): the RH10 is a very good recorder as well and perhaps even better looking because of the OLED display. But that display has some real use too: it kinda eliminates the need for an RM-MC40ELK remote, as the unit itself can provide all info in the dark. Not to say that a remote could be handy, so I would either get a Japanese import (with the LCD-remote in stead of the N-Am non-LCD one) or the N-Am/European version but with an extra RM-MC40ELK remote. If you have used MD before and really do not think an LCD-display on the remote matters to you, you can just buy the N-Am or European RH10 of course, as it does work by itself for recording... but I myself use it a lot. BTW, I do not think the Japanese import remote will show rec levels (please correct me if I'm wrong) so it would only be handy for playback (like the RM-MC38EL that came with my NH900) and not really for recording.these are just my ideas... I use the NH900/RM-MC40ELK combo and it works very well, but I couldn't choose an RH10, as the second gen wasn't released at the time I spent my money. If I had to invest again, I would probably go for an RH10 + RM-MC40ELK or even for a beautiful colored RH10 and matched remote import from Japan... but with recording in mind, I guess the RM-MC40ELK's usefulness would win over beauty if you can get an NH900 for little money, do not hesitate! if you can't... go for the RH10... hope this helps
  4. I can't really remember having recorded in pretty windy conditions with the mics in croakies but I haven't heard any wind-noises on any of my recordings so perhaps it does work... I will try to do a little test later, as I am interested in having some sort of wind shielding myself, as I would like to record outside venues a lot in the future
  5. thanks for the praise k., I will try to give a (short) explanation how I made the croakies as far as decent/suitable mics are concerned, I would really advise to make your own mics according to greenmachine's instructions (which can be found around here somewhere) as his mics work very well! Soundpro's or any other small mics with very small or even better removable clips would work to I guess... regarding the croakies... I do not think whether my way is the best way, but for what it's worth, here it goes: I looked for the 'best' existing croakies to adapt (here's some things to keep in mind):they have to be securely attachable, if the croakies slide, the mics won't be in the same spot and the stereo image/recording will be ruined... in my case, this was more of a problm with the glasses which had very thin arms, so I just wound some tape around the arm so it was thicker and the croakies were held firmly in place the fabric needs to be permeable for sound and accoustic invisibility is even better... so I chose a pretty widely woven fabricif the tubes of the croakies are double (two layers of fabric), you can avoid scraping or other noises from the mics hitting the arms of your glasses in my case this lead me to buy some 'Chisco' croakies with widely woven fabric, which seemed close to ideal and actually were the only ones I found that even came close to what I was looking for I cut a hole in each outer tube, near the end that hangs down the backside of your neck. I then, with the very litte sowing skills I have, made sure the hole wouldn't raffle...best is to ask your mom/grandma if you do not know how to do this I inserted the mics and as I had attached the gator clips, they fitted the tubes precisely and didn't need anything extra to keep 'em in place... if yor do not attach clips, or they would be to big... you should look for a way to keen the mics imobile at the right spot (just slightly protuding in front of your ears)well, that's my method at least... but beware, I do not claim it to be the best possible one, as it was more inspired by impatience than by clear thinking just some pics to make it all a bit clearer [attachmentid=791] [attachmentid=792]
  6. welcome to MDCF ynos, AFAIK, only way is to remove the battery while having it plugged in through USB
  7. thanks g. and Kevin... glad to be back to MDCF... but to stay on topic: I am currently still enjoying some free time (I won't really graduate till the 16th) and while I'm already busy with the search/solicitations for a decent job, I still want to take it a bit easy (and as I'm officially still a student I think I'm a bit entitled to that ). I spent several hours reading up on the posts I missed because of my vacation (11 pages of new posts!) and lost track of time... so I went to bed at 6am... at 8.30am I was awakened by my mom (yes, I'm currently lodging at my parent's) who thought that (even though she knew I traveled 12 hours yesterday) I had no reason to "waste a day by staying in bed"... so now I'm very sleepy and will 'waste my day' by hanging around aimlessly and posting on MDCF... haha, actually this is not really pissing me off, as I do enjoy the occasional 'wasted day' PS: I still haven't shaved... I'm starting to look like a yeti according to my g-friend
  8. just make one long wav of the mix and mount it as a disc image with trackmarks (with nero/eac,...)... use Simple Burner to get it on HiMD and you'll have no gaps whatsoever you will have each mix as a folder and each track as a track, and you can switch between all of them
  9. I've just come back from a welldeserved (if I may say so myself) vacation in the South of France (Côte d'Azur, between Nice and Monaco) so nothing can piss me off at the moment... except for (and I apologize sincerely for anyone that may feel offended now, but this isn't really directed at any nationality at all, it's just my real life experience and it may well be an exception) ...the British couple next to me and my g-friend in a French/Italian restaurant in 'Villefranche sur Mer' who got really angry and almost even agressive because the poor waitress couldn't understand their specific accent even while she (a native french speaker) was even trying to speak English to them... only with some translating curtousy of me (not to help the customers! just to help the poor girl and to stop the noise so I could enjoy my very good meal) I explained the baffled waitress that the 'brute' wanted ketchup with his carpaccio She then brought them the ketchup but they still felt it was necessary to leave without a tip while loudly complaining about the rudeness (???) of the girl AND OF ME: "that unshaved meddling knowitall foreigner type" (their exact words). OK, English is a world-language and I do not mind expressing myself in it (as you can see here), but I don't think French is that small a language either... and I'm pretty sure more ppl can understand her french than their english! so ppl if you do not speak the language of the country you're visiting... please respect anyone trying to help you in you're own language... it's probably not easy for them either... and: do not ever order ketchup with Italian food!
  10. Well, if there is a difference in mAh, the difference should be just as it says, the same power for a longer time... but I've just upgraded from the low mAh included sony stick to a higher mAh GP.. so yes, I do notice a longer useage time. But if you really want more time, just get a rechargable 2500 mAh AA for the addon and you'll never run out of power unecpectedly
  11. dbpoweramp musicconverter should do the trick *edit: darn, ishi beat me to it...
  12. wow...that's some (his)story there Paul... I love reading stuf like this! I can honestly say this quickly turned out the best thread I've started so far IMHO but just to clear things up a bit... do you mean the - beautiful NH1 with the great 3line backlit remote RM-MC40ELK which is close to heaven for recordists - or the RH10 with the OLED which is even more beautiful and almost as handy as the RM-MC40ELK I guess? if only that manual rec level stuff would get sorted out and we could get slightly higher capacity discs that can capture a full show in PCM and Sony will have designed the easiest recording machine ever
  13. also not really a replicable bug... but please Sony, test the buttons before shipping the recorders out - I had problems with funny button behaviour (stop would skip track and menu wouldn't work at all) with my NH900 (which they fixed) - now I read about ppl having troubles with the RH10 buttons otherwise I've had no troubles at all... knock on wood
  14. not at all, I was laughing very hard myself trying to picture it... someone standing in the crowd with a giant 'antenna' sticking out of a backpack... and I would love to visit a venue with an open tapers section... but it looks like a legal spot near the mixer @ my next QOTSA show will be the closest you can come by here in Europe... although I must say, part of the fun is not being spotted by anyone and capturing that one show noone else has got... and if I could tape openly, I'd have to invest in more material so I'll stay stealthy for now
  15. @ Sparky191: it is the first English 3.2 version that appeared on these forums @ Mr_Bass_Man: I actually only use SS ever to combine, then I convert the total to wav and edit in audacity if I need to
  16. as roamer said, here in EUrope a tapers section is only a dream so I've actually never seen a mic stand in action so sorry for my stupid idea it looks hugely professional! ... and I only used sunglasses
  17. any HiMD without a 'D' in the model name would suit you perfectly... so just check the minidisc.org equipment browser and ask any more specific questions you have afterwards and we will all try our best to answer them
  18. HiMD can play HiSP @ 265kbps which sounds very good and even 44.1mHz/16b PCM perhaps you should have a look at the equipment browser @ minidisc.org
  19. I'll be definitley checking out your recording... I guess you're one of the most experienced recordists here on MDCF, so I'm interested to hear what you produce haha, thanks... but as I said, it was way over the top for the festival I went to, but it was a good test for recording in some stricter venues I plan to visit... besides, I can't really think of a more comfortable setup actually, HiMD in a pouch and mics on glasses... if I understand your setup correctly you actually record with a mic stand sticking up from your back? I would love some pics of your setup as well (you could always hide yer face if you do not want to be recognized as a taper )
  20. first question: were all these discs recorded in HiMD mode? - if not, forget SS, only realtime recording to PC will allow you to do what you want (or perhaps a deck with 2 MD-players or something, but I do not know anyhting about that) -if so, just run the SS3.2 internet installer... it's much better than SS3.1 and works like a charm... if you can't, just search in the software support section as almost all probs with the standalone installer have been described, but as no one suffered them all I guess, I do not think anyone knows all solutions...
  21. I personally do not think there's a direct connection, nor a real comparison between illegal software and recording concerts... - illegal software = theft, simple as that. You might say that you're stealing from rich evil bastards that overprice their stuff and make illegit use of thir monopoly positions...but that makes you a Robin Hood at best: a good thief, but still a thief - recording concerts (at least for me, I know other ppl might think/act differently) = a personal souvenir of a great occasion (hopefully) that was paid for. Tickets are expensive enough, I do not sneak into venues to tape or tape from right outside the festival grounds. I also am not really interested in downloading concerts I haven't visited. I do appreciate to hear what other ppl do with their recording material... just to see whether my own results are up to standards and to learn from ppl. As far as the commentary that '(stealth) recording = theft as well' is concerned... I do not think so. If there is no official recording sold of the occasion, there is nothing you could pay for... so how can you 'steal' it? This would be different of course if you would try to sell your recording, as that would take possible income away from the band as those ppl perhaps wont buy any official live CD anymore... but as it is the exact show I visited that I want, having my own recording will not alter my CD-buying behaviour at all ... although, perhaps it will, but in a positive way... I just went to a three day festival of which I recorded six shows the first day, what bands do you think I really remember? The four best of course... but also the six I recorded. I learn to appreciate the music while listening to the recordings, but it still is different from a studio album, so it makes me even want to buy the CD's even more. So a concert recording is very different from an illegally downloaded single for me at least... so I won't be selling/distributing my recordings, except to the five friends that were with me on the occasion... but I will put up some snippets for ppl to hear what HiMD can do and I won't stop recording shows... BTW: for the ppl who do not want to 'rob' artists this way, I've just put a short clip up in the gallery which was 'performed' by me so all copyright issues are ok...
  22. I recorded 6 hours with my NH900, 1450mAh gumstick, 2500mAh AA and the RM-MC40ELK backlight permanently on without any decrease of battery (according to the indicator) not very scientific of course... it works for me
  23. to be honest... I didn't really get pissed off by the MDCF google ads... I just blocked them once and haven't made the effort of restoring them... mostly I leave them be at sites I respect and where I know the site respects the users as well... but flashing banners / ugly rubbish etc... no hard feelings, but they do get nuked right away! I stopped reading a mag I actually liked, since they started publishing one full-page ad for every normal page in the mag and it was a critical, non-consumerist toned mag!? but as you've pointed this out now, I will at least restore the google ads on MDCF... as I wouldn't want this site to suffer at all...
  24. very good question! I wondered about that as well... and when do you guys decide to switch discs? wait till the disc is full or play safe and switch at a pause between songs and hope the pause lasts long enough?
  25. well done on the deadlines k. ! you sure you didn't nuke them in your browser with adblock or something? I know I did 'cause advertising is another thing that gets on me nerves
