here?
*yawn*
I am very sorry. I did see this but none of the links in this thread worked for me. Some of the links linked to nothing and I was leery of subscribing to the outside company mentioned in one of the posts as I avoid downloads from unfamiliar websites.

I have read many of the posts re SS4.2 being better for non vista users. Yet, many of the posted links no longer work. How can I get SS4.2 or barring that another non 4.3 version. Thanks

I have had 4 computers (with 3 OSs) crash while I am operating simple MD burner. I am very concerned. I am almost ready to buy a simple laptop with minimal capacilty just for the purpose of burning to md. I have successfully buned about 150 discs or more but the simple burner seems to really tax my system. Any thoughts??
Right now I have windowns XP and a dell machine that has been working perfectly for one year until I tried to burn some minidiscs on it!! arggh

These programs used to work but I returned from a trip and they dont seem to recognize either my HI-MD (mznh600D) or my regular MD (mz-ne410). The computer seems not to recognize the device no matter which USB port I use. I tried to find drivers for these here and on sony site but failed. I placed the CD rom with sonic and burner in the drive but couldnt pull drivers off there either. Finally I uninstalled- then reinstalled sonic and burner (it claims to have disc drivers on the disc, if I understand correcxtly) and still the devices are invisible to the computer- help!!!!

I think I may have virus on computer. May therefore need to save files, wipe disc and reformat. Will I be able easily to reconstitute ss with my current library? How? Will there be files I can no longer upload or download as easily as i would have if no reformatting took place? I have both a hi-md and a regular md.

Sony BMG was a merger. Old Sony labels--Columbia and Epic--tend to use XCP. Old BMG labels--Arista, BNA, RCA, ATO--have been using Sunncomm for more than a year.
The Sunncomm is actually worse. If you haven't disabled Autorun, it plants itself in your computer BEFORE you see the licensing agreement that's supposed to offer you any choice.
The Electronic Freedom Foundation has sued over the Sunncomm because that kind of behavior is clearly invasive.
Here are some details.
http://www.freedom-to-tinker.com/?p=936
"MediaMax phones home whenever you play a protected CD, automatically installs over 12 MB of software before even displaying an End User License Agreement, and fails to include an uninstaller."
Sony isn't the only company that uses MediaMax. Look carefully in the fine print on your CDs.
Also, Sony still hasn't provided any uninstaller for XCP. The guy who blew the whistle, Mark Russinovich, said he could easily write an uninstaller and he doesn't even have the source code. By not providing an uninstaller, Sony BMG Music has proved how little it cares about consumers.
http://www.sysinternals.com/Blog/
"I could write an uninstaller in an hour based on my own research of the software without access to the source code. They have source code and an existing uninstaller. I find the delay utterly inexcusable."
And Sony's supposed recall isn't exactly taking the CDs off the shelves, as New York's attorney general found.
http://www.businessweek.com/technology/con...ign_id=rss_tech
"It is unacceptable that more than three weeks after this serious vulnerability was revealed, these same CDs are still on shelves, during the busiest shopping days of the year," Spitzer said in a written statement.
Greed makes Sony do some very stupid things. I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but Sony's head of technology, Phil Wiser, was a honcho in Liquid Audio, one of the early (failed) encrypted formats. He knows how this stuff works, so Sony's attempt to put all the blame on the copy-protection software vendors just doesn't ring true.
Does the above mean that there are even more cds that may have released gremlins than were described a few postings back? If so- is there a list of companies and/or cds that we can check our cd collection against?
(I asked a similar question above and there appeared at that time to be a very limited list of cds with thewse gremlins) Does this mean that theres a larger list to check? Or worse still- no accurate list to check? Are there computer files to check for and where would one find these?)
BTW- Hooray for Spitzer!!!!

It was option 2.
The AnyDVD description is quite clear about this.
@hobgoblin: That is true, especially the US, where corruption is running rampant and is legal, if you call it campaign contribution.
Does this virus live in all sony cd's? what labels should I look for? If you dont download songs to ss but just use simple burner- does the virus get access to your computer? how can you find the virus?

I use a cassette adapter in my car to attach my minidisc player so I can listen to minidisc in the car. I recently rented a car and there was a cd player only so I couldn't listen to the minidiscs.
Is there an adapter that one can use to listen to minidisc in a car with no cassette deck but just a cd deck?

Would people have the same suggestions for recording lectures? does the size of classroom matter or do these work equally well in a large lecture hall or a small classroom?

simple burner 2 is very much present in the downloads section.
its a zip file that is opened by winzip.. extract and install.. how did you manage to download winzip from the downloads section?? screenshots would be tremendously educational...
cheers
i followed the link above, then when i tried to download the program. it asked for lyceemoliere and my password so i typed it in. then, when tried to download, i get the winzip icon with md_simple_burner under it. If i try to click on the icon, i am aksed to buy what looks more like winzip than simple burner.
i went to the following:
http://forums.minidisc.org/downloads/details.php?file=2
which led to--->
http://forums.minidisc.org/downloads/files.php?cat=2
which led to---->
then i get a grey box that says
file name: MD_Simple_Burner_2E.zip
file type: winZip File
from: forums.minidisc.org and asks me to open/ save /cancel/ more info
if i open or save it i get the winzip icon with MD_simple_burner on it and if i click on that, it asks me to pay $29 or get a trial version .am attqching the icon that results

simple burner stopped working on my computer so i uninstalled it. i have the original disc but its bundled with ss and i dont want to risk losing my library by using the disc as it looks like both install @ the same time.
I found the download listed above (by kurusu) on th "hosted site" but what actually downloaded was winzip not simple burner and i cant figure out what i would be buying for $29. It looks like it is not simple burner at alll.
Any ideas of places i can get just simple burner via download or ideas re using the disc bu t avapoiding downloading sonic stage?

I am so sorry but this didn't work when I tried this. Do I need to get rid of any albums names ( I originally copied some of the tracks from cds using simple burner). I was unable to move either the folders or the tracks of the others. Write protect was not on at the time.
Any thoughts? I have ss 2.3

In principle, yes you can copy MD discs that way. However note - the RH10 can only record in Hi-SP (256k), Hi-LP (64k) and PCM through the line in (ie. not the NetMD formats - SP/LP2/4, mono), so as long as your original is in a HiMD format, yes, you can make a corresponding copy like that. Otherwise you'll have a different format disc from the original.
It is transcoding/recompressing data, and in analogue too, so don't expect perfect copies. Though you'd get a pretty good copy if you simulate a 'line out' on the NH600D by turning the volume right up and turning any sound settings off, and using a good stereo cable.
The European RH10 has a volume cap (which can be removed), but apart from that all RH10 models are functionally the same....
Thanks so much.

what about selecting shuffle in subplay mode and then selecting by group in mainplay mode?
Thanks to all.

I have made a hi-md disc with 4 categories of music. My ss library is not made into playlists groups. The 4 categories are on the disc with all the songs for a particular category together. Is it posssible to make the 4 separate sets of songs into groups so i can use the shuffle feature and just shuffle the songs in a particular group? If so, how?

Can one copy a hi-md disc by placing original disc in the mz-nh600d and connecting via the earphone jack to the line in/mic in of the rh-10 in which you have a blank hi-md disc and then recording in real time? I gather from some of the forum entires that there may be several versions of the rh-10 available in different countries. Is this true? If so, how do I find out whic rh-10 has the capabilities I am after?
Thanks

With a line in you can record off of devices that have a line out, like cd players, amplifiers, mixing boards etc. without a pre-amp you cannot record from a microphone. There are very compact battery powered preamps, but if you are spending extra for a preamp go dor a deck with a mic input.
Personally if the price is right I would go for it.
Bob
Thanks so much. Can you upload the material from the cassette player or cd palyer as well> If i did get a pre-amp at a later time- could lectures be upladed or not?
-
I have a chance to buy a mz-nh600 (not 600D) for a low price. With the line-in for this model what can I transfer in and what can I not transfer in. (ie Can I plug into a cassette deck and transfer a casette to the mini? Can I record a lecture?) ????with or without extra equipemnt or cables......and which of these items once transferred can be uploaded. I know that some of this has been covered before and I apologize but I wasnt anticipating this opportunity and I am now seriously looking into this. I do have the mz-nh6oo-d and am familiar already with this device.
Thanks

I have a used mz-si. which mic will work with this? (not too expensive if possible)

Lots of bad news today re real end of minidisc in Australia. I guess that some major news is due out in a couple of days.
-
Does anyone know what is happening in Australia at this time. What direction are things going? Any news re Sony Australia?
-
It also depends on the laws in the country what standards a manufacturer has to follow. They often try to bully you, but if you know the consumer laws you may have the rights on your side. Otherwise, try to lead it into a situation interesting for the papers or consumer programs on TV and you may suddenly have a barand new players, some extra blanks, and an excuse...
I did try this tack and I am not easily bullied. She was totally unhelpful and I was rooked for the phone call to boot.
SS4.3 not working with XP
in Software

I agree and I posted a few days ago ( http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=21860 ) re getting ss 4.2 which should work better. I was unable to get 4.2 (so far) from sony support . I am hoping someone can post an independent copy of 4.2 or another version that works well with XP.
