When Minidisc first came out, it certainly was not useless. It was meant to take on cassette tapes and it succeeded in being superior to it in every way. It's downfall was the idiotic superficial restrictions sony entertainment put on it.
-
The disc is always 1gb but the number of songs it can take is not always the same. Some songs take up more space depending on how long the song is and at what bitrate you are encoding them at. Drop the bitrate and you can fit more songs on the disc.

I thought the RH1 is made in Japan too. Where is it made it then?
-
They told me the same thing when the RH1 hadn't even come out yet. If you get really desperate mate, you can get it off sonystyle. If they start getting rid of it then I would be getting worried. I've had plenty of mis-information given to me from jb-hifi staff that I don't go there except for price matching.

I would like to be able to drag and drop songs into Sonic stage for transfer onto MD. [Reason: Adding folders works but is much slower navigating to the drive/folder/sub folder etc, and if you have many thousands songs preloaded on SS it's kinda slow to start up, not to mention some song names crash the program. ]

I still have discs from 97 which work fine to this day. My player is 100% perfect too. (won't comment on the state of the remote ) I left my music collection in my car one time (was moving houses), I was parked out in the sun and while my cds (commercial and cdrs) were cooked, all my cds were flawless.. no warping or data loss. I would trust putting computer files on a himd more than a cdr[w]/dvdr+-.

look in add/remove programs. if its not there, you could uninstall the whole sonic stage package and then run the asia/pacific version of the online installer. I can vouch from first hand experience that the asia/pacific version does not have connect. It's 100% in English too.

<strike>Walkman -a Whats that? The early model mindiscs? </strike> Nevermind. Just did some testing and it isn't what I was hoping it would be. oh well. the hardware limitation still stands. haha Converted some mp3s to my himd and it feels like the conversion process is faster in this version than 3.3. Does anyone know which .exe's can be disabled (read erased) and still have sonic stage functioning? All I use it for is to download + convert music to my walkman. ssaad.exe is one. anyone know any others? Also the program stil has the annoying habit of adding ssaad.exe to your startup list even after you remove it. Cant wait till the bug in spybot is fixed so it cannot silently deny sonicstage access from adding itself back.

Could he have got our individual email addresses or did he send it to a universal ones that sends it out to all? And how about our passwords?

Now thats wierd. if its Hi-MD capable why aren't Sony heavily marketing this fact on the units' promo page?
-
Mod please move to more appropriate board if you feel it shouldn't be here. It wouldn't let me post in the news or announcements board. Well, Sonys released a new mini hifi in Japan thats equipped with minidisc capabilities. What's special about this mini-hifi is that is it has a built in hard drive and can rip tracks from the cd player (into ATRAC no doubt) and it can connect to Sonys Connect website and let you buy music off there. It comes with a 4.3' colour LCD screen and according to this the ripping and internet downloading can all be done computerless. Here is Sonys promo page on the unit. I can't tell if it is HiMD capable or not but it would be crazy if it isn't.

I just ordered one *is an Aussie*. I can't wait!!!!! One thing I couldn't find out though, Does the remote support kanji out of the box? -
All of the NH1s are made in Japan but there are slight differences in the things packed with it and how they have been set up (firmware). Be sure of your region's voltage before plugging the tranny in!
