Hei All!! I have to report that nearly all my omg or oma files could not be played on the SS 4.0. It says that some licence information could not be found... The very newest file can be played. But the most files not. This is a reason to ripp all cds in mp3!!! All the mp3s are working fine. Except the gapless thing. Such a sh.... tom Edit: Can someone tell me how to downgrade to ss 3.4??? Thanks Edit2: You can see the error from SS4.0. I imported a CD which had album name and all the other names and now you can see in the background!!! Nothing no tags anymore...

hei!! I had the same doubts the last time. When i import all my mp3s and Atrac-files in Sonicstage then default it is not sorted by tracknumber in the ID tag, allthough they are all ripped from cd in Atrac and have the correct Tracknumber id set. So i have to klick on the sorting for the tracknumber. But: If i transfer all the tracks to my HD5 then it will play the ripped cds in the correct order. So it should be that the HD5 Player itself sorts by the Tracknumber ID in the files. Don´t know what happens if you dont have the tracknumber id set in mp3 id tag.... cu tom

Do you also know the distortion with EQ? That a real problem with 5G iPod!!! I really cannot use the EQ!!!! What to do? That one thing where the Sony is much better... tom

Hei Guys!! Should i have to say that i bought an iPod and the iPod Hifi? Yes I bought it and it is really great. It´s not perfect but very great. Videothing is cool but difficult to get DVDs to the iPod. Because of all that Copy Protection things. Next cool thing is the Podcasts. Absolutely integrated in iTunes. No comfortable chance in SonicStage. And sound quality seems better than in HD5. I am not sure because the iPod seems to be more powerfull or let´s say aggressive in sound. The HD5 is a little smoother and thats maybe the reason why some people say that the sound of the sony is not that good. A friend of mine bought the A1000 and he also said that the ipod is more aggressive in sound. I also checked a short time the A1000 and i think the sound increased a bit compared to the HD5. No real comparison to the iPod. Some things to the iPod Hifi: I sounds totally good for this price. And hey all the audiophile guys: Don´t tell me anything about the price and that you will a much better stereo with a separate Amp and all that sxxx!!!! Do´n´t want to have that! iPod Hifi is the thing which I was waiting for. Batteries also possible. Well also some things are not that good. One thing is gapless playback. And there are also some Firmware-Problems in the iPod. Where is Sony? Why is there a better Speakerset for the Walkmanphones than for the Walkmans itself? Who needs that 2 Watt speaker bullsxxxx for about 99 euro? COME ON SONY!!! I was/am such a huge Fan of Sony. But I think they will not survive if they go on like this. Why won´t you make a similar Speakersystem like iPod hifi using the remote connector on nearly all the Minidisc CD HD Walkmans??? I know that not all the remotes work with all the players but hey SONY: Find out how to make it in a cool way to make a wireless IR remote for nearly all of your SONY players. Who dont want to have a comfortable Remote? And: I dont have a CD Player anymore!!! So the iPod is the only way to get such a solution right now!!! SONY: Make it better and i will be back with you!! Hei i can understand you!! I also have the Sony HD5 with 20 gb and now i bought an ipod video 60gb. I am not sure to keep the ipod. Maybe i´ll sell it again. I cannot really say why. I love the sony. And to use more than one player is stupid. And i don´t want to sell the sony. The sound of the ipod is in some cases a little better than the hd5 sound and sometimes not. I would say that the ipod sounds "stronger". But sometimes this can also be too "hard". Difficult to explain. The wheel on the ipod is great i think. But hey! Forgett the videofunction!! You have to convert all the stuff and i tried all the freeware converters and also some to buy. but if you want to have a dvd on your ipod then you have to rip the dvd at first to get the vob files. And thats forbidden.... And then you will have a problem with the scale size. Nearly all movies on dvd are not 4:3. So after converting you will have cone heads!!! well the ipod is nice but i would not buy it again because of this video function! What i like is the video podcasts. you can get some videoclips and news from itunes for free and then sync it with the ipod. Some thats nice, but no must have. And the video out to a tv is also very bad. And if you make videos with a higher bitrate then the ipod will often make resets and the battery is empty in about 30 min!!!! I think this is because the small cache. The harddisc is running then all the time without any pause. For the smaller videos for watching on the ipods screen it is ok so far. But no relation to the sony. If you have questions to the ipod then ask me!! I think i will use it now for the next time and i really want to see and hear this ipod hifi speaker set. Let me say some things to the hd size. Now i have this ipod 60gb and i had to rip again all my cds, because everything i have is in atrac3plus. so i ripped everything to 320 kbit/s mp3 with itunes. The thing is now: If you are one time on such a high level you never want to downgrade again!! What i want to say is: Maybe it is not the worst way to buy an hd5 and have the cool battery life and the gapless thing and just copy some albums not to the hd5. Do you really want to hear them always? I know i had the same problem. But what will happen if you buy a 60gb ipod and rip all to 320 kbit/s (which is double size than 160kbit/s and more than double relating to 132 kbit/S atrac !!!) like me and then with some videos the 60gb ipod will also get full. So what to do then? Do you understand what i mean?? For me my sony is more sympathic. I cannot say why. maybe it´s also a price thing. If i would sell the ipod again i have a lot of money and peace in my mind :-) But if i never had any Player then the ipod would be a good choice.... So wish you good luck!! Tom

I can understand the reason with atrac. Atrac is a great format. Because of this gapless thing. It´s such a shit in ipod. Now i have the 60 gb video ipod. Well sound without eq is little better than in HD5 i think. But the eq settings you cannot use. There is no setting out of 13(?) without any distortion. The bass in all the tracks to powerfull then and it sounds horrible. Well i dont know. The perfect Player has to be made. Maybe with Bluetooth A2DP?? And then SONY: Please make a cool Boombox like the iPod Hifi!!! Or anything similar in BLACK and I would buy this at once!!! I think many more people too!!! AND: Make ConnectPlayer stable and fast as soon as possible!!!! You will loose the fight against iPOd if you do not!!!! tom

hei guys!!! A friend of mine bought the A1000 on monday and he also has this remote from an older CD Walkman. The same problem with only skipping the tracks and not the Albums. To MDX-400: Well anyway if you think that the bose has a bad sound. I aggree with you with the large HIFI-Systems like Acoustimass Series or something like that, but for sure the Bose Sounddock is the best sounding speakersystem for the iPod. For sure you can have more if you buy a normal Stereosystem. But anyway you will have the Problem with the remote for any other player than the iPod. Today i heard a new logitech iPod Speakersystem and it has an integrated LiIon-Battery. And it also has a remote unit and the sound is also nice. Maybe better in mid/high range than this im7 from Altec. But well the Power is not the same as it is in the IM7. The Battery lasts for about 10 hours, on the logitech page. You know for an iPod owner and the want-have-features like mine is this really perfect. Up to right now i always heared music with headphones. But i changed a little in that way and now i want to have something to hear good music in any portable way like all these sounddocks. And they are all for the iPOd. But thats not all which is available. Today i tried this videoplayback on the iPod video screen. It absolutely nice. Well the resolution is reduced and you need to convert all the videos. But anyway you can also control the video like an MP3 with this wheel. You can access very easily minute 47 of an 2 hours video. Really amazing. I never thought that this is also possible with video. Anyway. I like my Sony. But the way i want to hear music changed and apple has some stuff to fullfil my dreams. Don´t have the passion anymore to wait for sony. I waited for so long time..... It has an aux input!! You have to see the smaller ones which you can take to a hotel room but the im 7 is much larger. Did you see it in reality before? It something else that creative portable sound 200 e.g. You know i dont think that this thing is useless. Did you ever hear it? Or the Bose Sounddock? It´s really great. If you want to have any other Boombox e.g. from Philips or JVC then you will never get such a sound quality and if so then not in this size of the unit. So i think although they are really expensive you will not get any other unit like the im7 or the bose sounddock. The large one from JVC is also about more than 200 euro... The im7 can be also used with Batteries and if not you can carry the hole soundsystem from your sleeping room to the bathroom or to the living room or to the lake, garden or to just a friend! I think that unit is wonderfull!! It is just silly to connect your HD player with a f**king cable to your large stereo system at your livingroom without any control from your seat. Think about future? Do you want to have such a solution the rest of life? Maybe we have luck and sony will hear us and provide such a real good (maybe high priced...) unit. I would buy it if it would deliver the same/better sound... Thats my opinion. Bye Tom

Hey guys!! Can anybody tell what happens if you go to the album list and then play a track out of this "album" list and then press this folder + or - botton???? Does it work or not? I always use the album playlist so for me it works well in the HD5. Can you all please recheck if you have the A3000/A1000 and this RM-MC35ELK?? Thanks Tom

Hei Yes that is what I want to have!! I kind of stand / dock for the HD5 with a Remote control. And what is unclear about the "Boom Box" ?? Just look at the im7 from Altec Lansing and you can see what i mean. Nothing similar to the HD5 so all the reasons you posted in here are things that i thought about. What is about to play gapless in iPod with wav-files? Does anyone know about that? Thanks a lot for those infos!!! Tom P.S.: here in germany i wrote a review of the A3000 and they said that the soundquality is far worse against the iPOd.... Wondering about that.... cu Edit: Yesterday I was 1 cm away from buying an iPod. But now i understand what MDX-400 meant. The soundquality if the im 7 is nice but not that perfect as i thought. I connected my HD5 player to the im7 and listened some tracks. It´s ok if you have an iPod and want to buy such a thing. But for me it is too expensive right now because i have to buy the iPod too!! The Videoplayback works really great. And you can move the cursor in a video the same way like in mp3s. This means that you can access minute 46 of a 2 hour video in about 3 seconds. Could not see the quality on a TV. Well for now its OK but i dont know how long it takes if i have a powerless moment when i will get one.... CU One more edit: Can you see that since yesterday apple has a Boombox to sell? called ipod hifi. And there should be iTeufel from "Teufel" speaker systems very near. Much more than for the Sonys.... Hei All!! You must help me because i am near to change my HD 5 to an iPod although i am the true Sony Freak. But the problem is that i don´t want to connect my HD5 so silly with a 10 meters long cable to my Stereo. Then i want to have a Boombox. And maybe i need more capacity. And the last: I think that this click wheel seems to be the best type of steering to all the albums. Sometimes this up/down keys make me really angry... Are there roumors of some new players or accessories?? Thanks Tom

hi!! I have this Remote (is it with the LCD?) from an authorized dealer. And it works well so far. It depends in which Playmode you are. I have the HD5 and when i play in artist-search-mode, then i can get from artist to artist, like they come in the list. And if i am in the "normal" Albums list then i can switch to the next and previous album. So far no problems. The mode depends on the mode you are playing right now. Tom

yes i also think that. The thing is that i know a device in the first MD years where you could connect your minidisc-walkman via remote connector to the Stereo or Boombox and so it was possible to control the device. That was really ok so far. In the HD5 you always have the problem of a dock beause of the missing dock connector. But anyway it would be possible to make a boombox with a little case of a kind of rubber or neopren or anything like that where you can lay inside your HD player. The Battery life would be enough. And they could give the customer the same features like in this Ipod stuff. This Im7 from Altec Lansing is so great for me. I am really thinking about to change to an ipod although i don´t trust the battery life. And i have to give up gapless playback. But i´m wining 60gb space and videoplayback and what i have to say is that sometimes the usage of the up and down keys makes me throwing my hd5 to the wall if i want to browse through my huge list of albums. Think that the wheel is much better. So lets think about.... Tom

hei Guys!! I love my HD 5 but i really think about to change to a ipod video with 60gb. There is on the one hand this Bose ipod dock and on the other hand this Altec Lansing iM7 Boombox which is really perfect to me. Carry around, remote, cool sound, and video out! and optional use with D-cell Batteries! Is there something with a remote plug for the Sony-Players?? This is such a S**t!! The accessories are unlimited for the ipod. i am really stuck to connect my HD 5 with a silly cable to my stereo. Any hints? Thanks Tom

hei guys!! I have installed this GYM and it really works well with MP3s incredible!! I have some questions: 1. Is it possible with this Program to add MP3´s or OMA´s to the player? The Mp3 File Manager does not do the order of the Mp3´s really correct. 2. Is it possible to save OMA (ATRAC) files to the Harddisc on the PC (so now back from the player to PC)? I tried this, but it just creates a folder with the artist name, but there´s no file inside. MP3 works. Any idea? Thank You!! Bye Tom

thats right but they doesn´t have to know. The w800i battery is not the same. It´s thicker and a little shorter. The V800i/Z800i Battery is exactly the same thing. According to the formfactor. Battery of HD5 shows 880 mAh and Battery of Z800i shows 900 mAh. I don´t know. Just a tip. CU Tom

Yes I also have an HD5 and thats ok. I you want to hear noise you can. But I know what you mean with this HD accessing noise. But this is not dissturbing. Very ok for me. CU Tom

Hei All!! This week is had a SonyEricsson Z800i (or V800i) and i saw the Battery. I compared it to the HD 5 Battery. And guys: It is exactly the same. If i say exactly, then i mean exactly. Hope that the electrical specs are the same. If so maybe you can replace it very easily. Try if you need!! Bye Tom

Why do you upconvert something from 256 kbit/s?? Can somebody tell us why the 352 kbit version converted from wav sounds so bad? What for is this bitrate? Tom

Are you sure to hear 352 kbit/s sound? I think the converted file comes from the 256 kbit/s version?? Not from lossless?? hihi So it should worse than 256 kbit/s files....Could you hear that?? :-) Tom

Did you try to burn a cd of this 64 kbit/s lossless files?? What happens? Is the soundquality also crappy? What happens if you just play the file in SonicStage? Also Crappy? Why to use lossless if not? :-) Oh Yeah!! Maybe they just took the normal transcoding way. Like you have all in 256 Kbit/s and then transfer it to hd 5 with 64 kbit/s. Anyway.... it´s stupid.
