How many (milli)Ampere? USB delivers 500mA, while the RH1 charger delivers 800mA.
-
Wouldn´t that force the buyer to give the credit card number to any seller? With PayPal, only they know the number.

A reason why I prefer MiniDisc is that it uses removable media. I like the idea of being able to just pop in another disk and listen to, for example, a klingon language course, instead of my usual music. With a monolithic device(i.e. MP3 player with only one fixed storage medium), I´d have to have both at the same time, chosing which to play whenever I want to listen to music. Sometimes I record a new CD on MD, to listen if I like it. I don´t have to reserve space on the disk or make room for it, I just take a blank disk and record on it.

The battery from my RH1 has the same number - last two digits are 31. Bought it from www.amazon.de (germany, europe), so perhaps it´s a country code?

If you ask me, the best method against spam would be to imprison anyone actually BUYING from them. Seriously. They(the spammers) wouldn´t earn anything, and we´d be free of people who click on the digital equivalent to "Hey, over here!"...

Just checked, apparently I got the same mails. Four mails, all have "re:your resume" as subject.

Don´t click on cancel. I know I used the USB port on my computer at work, where I cannot install any drivers - the device has been recognized, though. I guess windows(it´s windows, right?) has some sort of generic USB driver that will be used when no specific driver is found.

The info you got was from the system, the RH1 acts like a mass storage device, so your OS tries to find a drive for it. Wether it finds one or not, the drive should be accessible. Charging: Apparently, only when using the AC adaptor, you get the charge message with minutes left. When hooking up via USB, you only get the battery animation while it charges. Once it´s gone, the battery is charged - I don´t know if it´s full 100% or the "sufficient" 80%, or if it ever will completely charge at all, when using USB. My guess is that it merely doesn´t show, but continues to charge.

Sorry for the long wait, but I wasn´t able to test it till now. Yes, when plugged into the AC adaptor, it does indeed show the message. I immediately tried it with the USB connector - no message, only the battery animation. rcoleman1 seems to be correct - it only shows the message when plugged into the AC adaptor, but charges in both cases. Till now I didn´t notice, because I always connect it via USB... Thanks for the replies.

Whenever I connect the RH1 via USB to my PC, it does for a short while show the battery symbol(animated, as if charging) then switches to "HI-MD" and those blinking dots on the right. However, the manual says that when it is loading, it should display the time left until it´s fully charged. But I´ve never seen this message. The battery seems to be recharging(the icon was shown to be near empty at first, but after a while, when disconnecting, it was shown near full), but I can´t tell if it really is or not. Also, the dots on the right are constantly blinking - shouldn´t they remain fixed? BTW, the manual isn´t entirely clear on this - should the message be seen on the unit, or on the remote? I´d guess the unit, but it doesn´t display tracks either, so...

I don´t think it´s the engineers. Rather the marketing, afraid you´d use it to "steal" their precious. (music)

Thanks for the info. Too bad no direct transfer is allowed, but I guess that was to be expected. Perhaps a later model will be able to... I guess there is not much chance Sony will release an updated RH1 or a firmware-upgrade any time soon, right? Otherwise I´d guess most here would wait, instead of deciding to buy one.

There´s been no direct response to this yet - probably because it´s no question. So I´ll ask: Do MP3 files have to go through Sonicstage, and if, does it alter them? Or would it be possible to just (down?)load MP3 files via USB to the device? Another question, mostly because of my ignorance (only owning an MZ-R900), can ATRAC files be stored on the PC, and if, can they be retransfered to an MD, without SonicStage? (Especially with regard to RH1.)
-
It´s not only a matter of storage capacity. The ability to switch media is an advantage as well. I like to carry two MDs with me - one with music, one with language lessons. Sure, I could put both on one medium, but then I´d have to separate the content somehow. That´d require more complex editing before use, or skipping those tracks I don´t want to hear.

[edit] Forget it. It seems to work now - apparently it´s because some of the tracks were recorded using a different recorder. Those I recorded, I apparently can delete. I leave the post as is, but disregard it. [/edit] (Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but the thread seems to fit) I´ve got a problem with my MZ-R900 - whenever I try to erase a track, I get TR PROTECT - even though the track was recorded a minute ago, using the optical cable and the optical output of my DVD-Player, playing a (original) CD. I have yet to read the manual entirely, but searches through it, or the web, didn´t find anything useful. Even here I didn´t find much I could use. These tracks obviously are protected - but why? And how can I erase them? Is it possible that it´s merely a disc-failure? I´ve checked the write-protect tab, but it´s fine - I could record as long as there was empty space. Should I discard the disc as write-only, or is there a simple solution(i.e. not buying additional hardware)? BTW, the disc wasn´t new or empty - some tracks have been written on it, by using a non-portable(bookshelf?) unit. Can this be the reason?
