  1. Hi all, Happy New Year! I'm using the 4.3 software and I haven't had a problem in years. Up until now. When I try to import a track, the title of which begins with a number, Sonicstage is cutting the number off in the file name. In other words; if the name of the file is "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover", the song shows up in My Library as "Ways to Leave Your Lover". This isn't a problem if it's just a couple of tunes but i want to categorize a collection of tracks that I have a long time now and all of them begin with a number and there are over a thousand! Help! And thank you in advance.
  2. Thanks for the speedy response Azureal. I had no idea how they stored their information. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  3. I have had Sonicstage for a long time and currently have roughly 25,000 different tunes on it, ranging from checked in Cd's to my own compositions and performances. It's perfect for cataloging my collection. My question is; is there anyway to generate a printout/list of all the albums I have checked in, with or without album art covers printed as well? I am now at the point that I can't remember when I walk into a store if I have previously purchased a cd or not! I guess that comes with middle age, but I'd like to prevent that from happening again. I'd like to have a list with me that I can take shopping so I can quickly refer to it moving forward. Can this be done? Thanks!
  4. I just bought this deck (cheaply thank goodness!) and I think I already know the answer to this question, but is there anyway to program it to accept a 1 Gb HI MD disc? I have an RH1 that I could use but I am afraid of wearing it out. Thanks so much.
  5. <sheepishly> I wish I had your nerve! I would honestly take it apart if I thought I knew what I was doing! Problem is, I have no clue what I am looking for. And alas, the warranty ran out ages ago. I've tried to take super good care of this thing, but I've had it a few years now, so sadly that's not an option. $50 bucks eh? I guess I may have to take a stab at finding a Sony center here in NJ. Thanks for chiming in.
  6. Hi folks, It's been some time that I've visited this wonderful site. I am happy to have found this thread because I am having the (almost) exact same problem. I purchased an MZ-RH1 which worked perfectly, up until two days ago. For no reason, it's suddenly stopped working correctly. I put a disc in and it spins like crazy but won't read the disc at all..*or*...after a few minutes of seemingly endless spinning it says "NO DISC" and then shuts down. I've tried taking the battery out. No good. I've tried buying a new one and installing that. No good. I can't check anything into Sonicstage which is driving me crazy and although I can't use it to listen to anything, for some bizarre reason it still seems to record when tried. Problem is, it won't stop...I literally have to pop the battery out to do that. Does anyone have any ideas on what else there is to try? And also, would anyone have a ball park figure on how much it would be, or if it would be worth it, to send this to Sony to fix? Money is not exactly available right now and I am between the rock and the hard place. Thanks for any assistance you can lend.
  7. Hey guys, I don't mean to hijack this thread, and I do apologize for breaking in, but I am having a problem with re-formatting and was hoping you could help me. I think it's along the same lines as what you are all discussing. Once I've recorded something on my Net MD player, I use my MZ-RH1 to check it in, using SS 3.4. What I can't seem to do is re-format the disc so I can once again use it on my Net Md recorder. Each time I erase it, or format it, I can't even get the Net Md to recognize it. I get a TR Protect message and it tells me that there are two track listings with a total of 80:02 on the disc. I know I am doing something wrong, and I've read the earlier site mentioned on this thread, but could someone steer me in the right direction? Thanks for any help you guys can offer. The technically inept, Kat EDIT: Never mind, I did some button pressing and the matter solved itself. Thank anyway!!
  8. Hello everyone! I haven't been here in a while but you guys always know how to save my a$$ so I am hoping you can help me out again. Here goes.. I've just aquired SS 4.2 and at first it worked like a charm. I bought some songs thru the CONNECT store and everything was fine. BUT....I can only get 5 of the 11 songs downloaded. For some reason, the download process just *stops* at a certain point. I get about 40% of some tunes and perhaps 55% of others. What happens in the middle of a download is that the progress bar freezes, the percentage downloaded/time remaining indicator stops blinking, the Windows hourglass shows up and the hard drive starts spinning and the light on the tower modem starts glowing like crazy. Then the progress window in the upper right hand corner just fades out completely and goes blank. Just like when you finish transferring something into the program. I don't get an error message at all, it's as if the download just...well....pooped out! I have called Sony 5 times...they tell me the same thing. Allow pop-ups....turn off the fire wall....delete the ResumeOMG...etc...dmf file...clear the cache...clear the browsing history....turn off the web accellerators....everything! In any case nothing works. The only thing I can think of is that I am using dial-up and because the files of the remaining songs are so big (remaining tunes are 7-15 minutes long in length) the computer just can't handle the task. If anyone has any great ideas, I'd be more than thrilled to hear them. It would save me for ripping out what hair is left. Thanks as always for any help you can offer...
  9. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU....to the powers that be for sending me an email last night regarding the new 3.4. As soon as I logged into Sony, I immediately began downloading. Took almost 3 hours for the whole process to take effect, thanks to dinosaur dial up, but it was WORTH IT! This works like a dream! I echo the sentiments that someone posted earlier regarding a use for this with Net MD products. (My little MZ-N707 is feeling neglected Would make my life considerably easier once they adapt it for that series.
  10. Thanks for the heads up. Saves major irritation with Sony, and I have had enough already! Question for anyone who can answer it; is it possible to have both Open MG and SS 3.2 on a hard drive and yet maintain two *separate* music libraries without the softwares sharing them? I can't transfer tunes that were backed up in OpenMG to my Sonic Stage player because it cant' find the rights, yadda yadda yadda. I understand that, but thought if there was a way to keep the music libraries separate when loading Open Mg back onto my hard drive, it wouldn't be a problem. Anyone have any ideas? Sorry if this is an old question, feel free to steer me in the direction of a thread.
  11. What a lovely idea! Go you!! Wish these things had been around when *I* was in high school!
  12. LOL! You are absolutely right...progress must progress. My problem is the cost. I simply can't afford to keep upgrading things. This new player cost me a pretty penny and it has to last a while. Right now technology is seemingly progressing at the speed of light. My Mastercard can't handle that velocity!
  13. Hi all! I am very bummed to hear about all this. I bought my first MD about two years ago and got every last pennies worth out of it. Consequently, when it started to die on me, I purchased a new HI MD from ebay and am ecstatic to use it, simply cause it's digital and I am a pro musician who can record everything under the sun with it, not to mention save those files as WAV. These items have been godsends to me. I guess I am going to have to stockpile the blank discs myself. I really don't wish to lose this product to progress. As for Sony, I have always HATED them! My own direct experience has been shoddy craftsmanship on their audio products, with the MD players as my only exception. I can't say that I wish them well, because I used to work for them, but I must admit to my need for the MD program to continue. In that respect, I hope they are listening. I don't post much here, cause I know about as much of all this as I do rocket scientry! But thanks to all of you for what I am learning... Kat
  14. Hi everyone! I am a stupid newbie to this list too, but I was hoping someone could help me out. I have a Net MD MZ-N707 Walkman and have had it for years. I had the original Open Mg Software, but it wouldn't allow me to transfer in live recordings made, so naturally I bought a SonicStage 3.0 disc and hoped for upgrades. Problem is, I can't get 3.1 or 3.2 to save my life! Each time it erases the original 3.0 (which now refuses to reload on my hard drive period) and right before "Complete", I get a window that says the installation has been terminated. I have tried turning off my firewalls, lowering my security, cleaning the cookies and starting from scratch but to no avail. Can someone tell a clueless musician what she is doing wrong?
