  1. I just recently started following this thread Adrian (and all others involved), but allow me to add my voice to those who have expressed their Thanks and Appreciation for you spearheading this project. The work you have done is simply amazing, and it will hopefully go a long way to continuing the life of an amazing product! Thanks!
  2. Ok, in the meantime would there be any benefit to using the higher powered output of the F40 MD player for doing my playback on the analogue recordings, or would there be no difference?
  3. I'm not in a position to drop $400 Cdn on another unit (It would end up costing me about $30G with the cost of the divorce), so I'm looking at ways to improve the existing method I use.
  4. While I've owned an MD in one form or another for quite some time now (my first was my F40 playback only portable back in 99), I've only recently started exploring the capabilities other than "basic usage". I've recently started doing a lot of recording in SP, and got to wondering. I know that the only way really to copy the stuff done in SP is an analogue recording, and here's what I was wondering. My F40 still works like a dream, considering it has a 15mW output (as opposed to 5mW on any other unit I own) on the headphone port, would I get a better quality recording going from the F40 as my playback unit to Line In on my PC, or another MD recorder, or would it not make an appreciable difference?
  5. OK, so I have a unit that cant access menu's. Right oh then! (when you start mentioning holding tiny little pins, I start thinking of this thing as a "playback only unit")Thanks for all the help though, it's appreciated.
  6. Can you give me a link to how to get into service mode the alternate way? I tried searching here but only found the standard (button press) way. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  7. All of the buttons work(I have a remote, but I'm not using it to try and enter service mode). The Navi button will wold on a single press, but if you hold it, it will not go into menu mode. The group button works if you press it once, but does not seem to register when trying to put the unit into service mode. Everything else including the Jog Dial works...it's the weirdest damned thing I've ever seen, and I cant figure it out.
  8. Thought of that one after i posted the initial message, and tried. no luck.
  9. It's outta service mode. I'm currently listening to a disc on it. Had the battery out for 20 mins, didn't alleviate the issue. cannot access the menu feature, or get it back into service mode.
  10. He didn't take it apart, he did the "firmware change" hack (Put unit on Hold, Press and hold Group then hit FFRRFRFRPP then release group button)
  11. Ok guys. Just got a steal of a deal on another 600D ($10 with a Hi-MD disc included). Here's why. My friend, having watched me last night do a hack on my G750, decided he was going to do the same for his 600D. He looked up the hack, and claims he followed it step by step, but he definitely buggered something up, as the unit, while it plays fine, and can FF, REW, etc with no issues, cannot go into Menu mode, and I tried to go back into service mode to fix it, and it will not go, no matter HOW many times I try. Any ideas? I's almost as if the Group, and Navi/Menu buttons have stopped working. Any help appreciated, but it's not the end of the world, if it plays, then it's a viable portable unit!
  12. I have been having this problem with my trusty old G750 for the past year, so last night I dug out an old 510 that had a cracked display, took the 510 apart and transferred the magnetic head and cable from the 510 to the 750 (figured what the hell, if it doesn't work, it's not like both arent already broken). Sure enough, I was able to desolder the ribbon cable from the 510 board, VERY CAREFULLY peel up the ribbon cable, detatch the magentic head from the 510, and simply transfer the whole unit to the G750. It works like a dream! Just out of curiosity, it then tore apart an old 410 unit I had gotten for $10 at a yard sale, and sure enough, the head, and ribbon cable are the same, so this might be a saving grace for those who are having the issue. look around for an old "junker" netMD unit, and see if the part is harvestable! Good Luck, and a HUGE!!!!!!! THANK YOU to everyone here who has posted on the subject, the cause of it, posted pics, and detailed instructions. You guys ROCK! And prove to me why I stick with MD's...us users are just a different class of cool!
