  1. I have the NW-A808 and, as much as I would never want to swap it for another MP3 player, I'm starting to feel that 8GB is nowhere near enough memory for the amount of music that I'd like to carry around with me. However, I'd rather have a flash-based player rather than one with a hard drive - it keeps the size and weight down, while keeping the battery life up. Now, I've seen the new 16GB player that Sony are releasing in Japan and, since I don't particularly like its styling, it makes me want a 16GB version of my NW-A808. An NW-A809, if you will. I'm also aware that Creative will be releasing a 32GB version of their flash-based Zen which would be ideal for someone like me who wants their whole music/video collection with them all at once. But the trouble is that I REALLY like my Sony player, specifically its ATRAC capabilities. So, the question is: if Sony (or a third party) did a hardware-upgrade service, where you could have your flash player's memory doubled or quarupled, would you be willing to pay for it? And how much?
  2. Although I don't have one of the S700 series, the A800 series uses three different sizes: 200x200, 96x96 and 32x32. I would hazard a guess that, by looking at pictures of the S700 series, they use 32x32-sized images. Assuming that the S700 and A800 use a similar file structure, you could always open My Computer, navigate to the "OMGAUDIO" folder of your device and then find one of the folders that contains the album art (should be named something like "20P0A"). That shold help in determining the right size.
  3. A 32GB flash player from Sony that supported both drag'n'drop and ATRAC would be the answer to everyone's prayers. It'd be more than enough storage space for people such as myself who encode their portable music at around the 128kbps mark. It'd also entice new buyers who are wary of SonicStage but would, at the same time, please those who have a large collection of gapless ATRAC files (i.e. me again).
  4. Well, at the moment "In Rainbows", the new Radiohead album, is on pretty heavy rotation... I have to say that "15 Step" is becoming one of my favourite Radiohead songs ever. "Faust Arp" and "Reckoner" are also pretty damned good – classic Radiohead.

    THE SONY COLLECTION

I don't own a digital camera, so this is the best I could do. In order of purchase, left to right, top row first: All are still in my possession, except for the E500 and E310 which both eventually stopped working and got thrown away a long time ago. The micro system still works perfectly and, even though Sony have begun releasing HDD-based micros (the NAS-M95HD looks particularly nice), I don't think I'll ever want to get rid of it. I had an older Sony mini system and a couple of Sony tape players, but that was so long ago I'm damned if I remember what they were.

    New Player

I had a similar dilemma to yours -- I wanted to upgrade from my NW-A1200 to one of the new colour-screen video players but, having heard that the new NWZ-810s would no longer support Atrac, wasn't sure whether to wait and get one when they came out or buy one of the (slightly) older NW-A800 models. My NW-A808 arrived in the post this morning, so I guess you can see which way I decided to go. I have a fairly decent-sized library in SonicStage and have never had any problems with it. I find Atrac3 132kbps completely suitable to my ears AND it's also gapless which, as far as I know, the Sony players can't do with any other format other than Atrac. I'm well aware that the iPod can do gapless MP3 and AAC, but I think I'll only get myself an iPod when I grow wool all over my body and start bleating. I think the only thing that would've put me off getting the A808 (only £80 brand new from eBay! Bargain!) would have been Sony announcing an Atrac-compatible 16GB player that would definitely be making an appearance here in the UK, unlike the recently-announced Japan-only model. It'll be just my luck if Sony UK start advertising that on their site...
  7. 132kbps Atrac3 - sounds fine, plus has that gapless advantage over MP3.
