  1. I guess it depends on your definition of "lots." I just did a worldwide search, narrowed specifically to players/recorders (not accessories), and I only came up with 134 items. And even in that list, only 90 or so items really were actual MD units. To me, 90 available units on the globe feels scarce. --V.
  2. I'm noticing a scarcity not just of Hi-MD units, but of all MD units. It seems like only 4 months ago an eBay search for minidisc would bring up about 10 pages of hits. Just now I got only 3 pages, and a lot of the items were accessories and discs. I wonder if all of the dabblers have already moved to iPod, and us junkies will have to fight it out for the dwindling stock? I'm very tempted to add another one or two units to my reserve. What do you think?
  3. I have an MZ-RH1 and an MZ-NH600D, but I've gone back to my MZ-N510 primarily because of its great battery life. The Hi-MD units just murder batteries, but I get around 2 weeks from a single AA battery in my N510. I actually have two N510 units now. I use my RH1 primarily as my upload/download unit, and for occasional field recording. The NH600D is a very pretty desk ornament at the moment. I think the N510 is among my favorite and most reliable electronic devices ever, though I have to confess I might not be as happy with it if I didn't have my RH1 to connect to SonicStage. The N510 is very slow as a USB device, but the RH1 lets me do just about anything I want to do very quickly. By the way, speaking of finding blank MD discs, my best score EVER was buying 138 discs from a guy on craigslist for... drumroll... $15! Thirteen of the discs were brand new, still sealed. I think I'm set for life for blank media! --V.
  4. I just tested this link for the US version, and it works fine: http://dl1.aii.co.jp/contents/connect/_dat...geInstaller.exe It will download the installer, and you need to be connected to the Internet when you run it. -V
  5. My friends, dealing with Ray Jackson is a STONE GROOVE. I bought his MZ-NH600D and it arrived in a matter of days, packed like a Ming vase, and in absolutely pristine condition. This cat takes care of his stuff. Don't hesitate to buy if he has something you're looking for; it'll be better than eBay. --V
  6. One more little nit-pick... This is not exactly true. Mac users can use the Hi-MD Music Transfer sofware to drag-and-drop both WAV and mp3 files to the RH1 via USB 2.0. Mac users are limited to real-time downloads for Hi-SP, Hi-LP, LinearPCM and any of the legacy formats. -V.
  7. I just read about this new piece of software called CrossOver Mac for Intel Mac users who want to run Windows applications without Windows: http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/ Supposedly it will allow you to install Windows applications without letting Windows itself anywhere near your Mac. If there are any Intel Mac users out there who feel adventurous enough to give it a try, there is a free beta version available for download. I'd love to know if it will work with any version SonicStage-- it might be enough to encourage me to bid farewell to my trusty PowerBook. Cheers, V.
  8. Would it be fair to say that any power accessory designed for the Motorola Razr v3 would work with the RH1? I saw an auto adapter for a car auxillary port (ie, cigarette lighter) for the Razr in an electronics store, and I was wondering if I'd be safe using it with my RH1. Anyone tried such a device? Any cautions? --V.
  9. Mine arrived too, on the West Coast of B.C., shipped the same day as yours (but ordered June 26). Everything looks good. I wouldn't want to drop this one, though-- it doesn't feel like it would survive, as my MZ-N510 has survived two drops, one on concrete. A quick run through all the basic functions without reading the manual proved that it's all pretty intuitive. I wish my fingers were smaller, though... --V
  10. Don't sweat it, Volta, deep offense has not been taken! I have read some of your many other contributions to these forums, and I accept that your intentions are genuine . I can't speak for kpayson, but for myself, the lack of 100% legacy uploads for Mac is not an issue at all. I stuck with MD over iPod even when I was restricted to analog uploads and digital/optical downloads in real time, so in a way, I feel like Sony has finally rewarded my loyalty to the format. My one complaint about the RH1 is the lack of an external AA battery pack for long recording sessions, but there's already some do-it-yourself prototypes popping up on the Web. Of course, all my comments are limited and theoretical until I actually get my hands on the d*mn thing... -V.
  11. Wow, that bit of information was delivered entirely without condescention . Who said anything about idiots at Sony?? Anyway, for those of you following the MDC/Canada Post issue, I'm now entirely convinced that it's a Canada Post problem (big surprise). I finally got a tracking number, but Canada Post suddenly zapped it from their system, directing me to call their customer service instead. FWIW, MDC has offered me free shipping on my next order to compensate for the delay, so good on them. -V.
  12. The software that will allow us Mac-ies unrestricted uploads is still in development by Sony. They have promised that it will be out in "Summer 2006," so you'll have to keep checking the Sony support pages (though I'm sure there will be a major announcement at this web site when it is released). In the meantime, I'm just happy to be able to digitally upload at all. Uh, that is if my recorder ever gets here from MDC (11 days, no tracking #, no delivery, and counting...). -V.
  13. Yep, I finally got a response from MDC too (though still no tracking info ). They claim that Canada Post lost the item, which on one hand I'm inclined to believe, given that my recent history with Canada Post has been a nightmare. But on the other hand, it does seem odd that several of us are having exactly the same problem at the same time. Anyway, MDC is sending "another" one, and so long as it arrives by the end of the week I'll just chalk this up to the cost of wanting something hot out of the oven. --V
  14. I placed my RH1 order with MiniDisc Canada one day before you, dewi, and my experience has been exactly the same. I got the "transaction confirmation" email immediately, but that's all. My order status is "processed" when I log in and the charge has now appeared on my credit card, but I have no shipping notification and they won't answer my mail. It's disappointing because my last experience with them was very good. I suspect that they ran out of stock, and rather than admit it they're just stringing us along, hoping for a new shipment in time to appease us. But, like you, if I don't at least get a response from them by tomorrow, I'll be asking my credit card company to reverse the charge. If my local Sony store still doesn't have them, I think I'll take my business to Sound Professionals. At least they seem honest about what they have and when they can deliver, and their prices and options for extras like mics and blanks seem pretty decent too. -V.
