hi guys, Since my good'old MZ-NH900 and MZ-N707 are sold of, I'm thinking of rebuying a porable MiniDisc again. Besides recording equipment and testsource for various soundtests it will be my every day musical companion. So I would like to know how the MZ-RH1 compares to NW-S70* and/or NW-A80* in terms of pure soundquality. I'll be using it with High End IEM's. I hope some-one can help me out here, If you have both, please help me!! thanks in advance! Greetz

EU units should theoretically be capped, but I don't think they are for some reason. I use V-moda Vibes and my unit barely gets over 15/30. It normally stays on 13/30 wich is loud enough! greetz

damn, I really didn't know that Apple ditched Sigmatel. So it's samsung sound now? Thx for the info guys!! greetz

I've used CX300 with my NW-S703 and NW-A805 fo a long time now but traded them in for a pair of V-moda vibes. I think these are the best IEM's at the moment. and in combo wih the NW-A800 they sound even better. greetz

sorry guys, no offense. I just thought it wasn't such a nice way to welcome a new member. That's all. greetz

Well, I have owned several MD units (and Hi-MD units) and I must say that I like the NW-A800 better. It comes very close to what I've been used form MD. I've had a MZ-NH900 and the details were always soo clean crisp and sharp. I think NW-A800 resembles this best. Clearbass works very good. It gives a very nice and smooth ''clear'' bass response. I think NW-S700 (wich I own) sounds too muddied and has no detail like NW-A800. greetz

@ pata2001: Yeaah, It's all about control for sony music. But it would be very good for the Electronics devision. I just thought it would be a nice feature. Sony Walkman with Vorbis support. But I understand it ain't gonna happen any time soon. BTW: I know my sony (minidisc) history. Atrac2 does exist! Read this http://www.minidisc.org/atrac2_paper/3.html I'm just doubting if it was ever used by sharp. There's Sharp atrac 5 and 6. But A 1-Bit sharp auvi MiniDisc player, with Music recorded @ 24-Bit sharp Atrac (5 or 6) sounds like heaven. greetz

ohhh c'mon guys... Didn't even one of you know the rule ''stupid questions don't exist''? The guy just doesn't know anything about electronics. I know plenty of people that don't. I'll sketch a random situation: the guy had a walkman (Tape) for years and wanted something better. The guy was never much involved in electronics and as a result doesn't know anything about it. Let alone computers and software. He bought a zune and came up with this question somehow. is it then such a foolish question to ask? I mean, he could have searched the forum or internet first. But he's just asking a question. He came to this forum for his question thinking we (a sony forum) should be able to help him and then we just start laughing at him? I know we all like a good laughter from time to time but just act serieus to new members so that they'll pass on a good word about atraclife and don't give the the feeling that they are complete idiots just because they don't know the Zune can't cooperate with Sonicstage. greetz

Damn, It's 'bout time for sony to start shipping some cases to holland. I work at MediaMarkt maastricht and they don't have ANY accesories for NW-A80x series. As far as I could find out they won't be coming any time soon. It's a shame..... But at least we have the NW-A80x series to keep us busy.. greetz / mazzel

very nice, Now sonce you're in holland, can you plz tell me where you bought that case? greetz

damn, good old atrac is really going down on the one thing it was once so famous for: SQ. I think the codec is just to old and leaping behind the others... Still, The old atrac (atrac2 I think??) on MiniDisc players is the best sounding combo, especially Sharp's atrac on a 24-Bit MD in a 1/Bit sharp AUVI player.... now That's soundquality!! Vorbis is a very good codec. I don't get why sony doesn't support this codec.... greetz

In general minidisc has way better SNR then any other DAP in th market. I didn't find out the SNR for S700 and A800. But I think S700 s somewere around 85 Db. I thought NW-A800 to have the same, but since FW 1.02 I'm not shure anymore.... It's very quiet nowadays.. greetz

I can compare Sony walkmans to Smsung YP-K5 greetz
-
I think you should get an NW-A805. As far as SQ is concerned. I've tested all units very good and studied the results but ZV:M can't beat A sony. Not even with EQ. But if you read carefully you'll se that I almost thought the ZV:m to be better then NW-S703. greetz

I've had both... To be honest N91 surprise me pleasantly with it's sound. It's defenitely not comparable to a W810i. But I think NW-S70x has better sound. Better bass and signature to it. greetz

I think supplied IEM's of NW-A80x are very good compared to other standard earphones... But I don't use them. 'till recently I used my CX300's. They have excellent sound. But since a week I have a whopping pair of V-moda vibes. Now THAT are good IEM's. greetz

Nice topic!! good idea! Sharing EQ settings is something very usefull. I hope many people come share their setings here, not only for NW-A800.. My settings: CB: 2 EQ: +2 / +1 / +2 / +1 / +2 VPT: Off CS: ON DSEE: ON Use these settings with sennheiser CX300 Greetz

I've updated my NW-A805, Damn this FW rocks!!.. all the distortions and noises I was hearing when playing ''The Fugees - killing me softly'' with EQ onwere just deafening.... Very annoying, Bur now.... It's very clean. no distortions at all, and even the well-known background noise has become pleasantly quiet! Thank you very much sony for the effort in making this FW update! Really appreciate. It as like they read my thoughts: I just found out about this and was like damn, could they solve this with a FW update? And before I could speak, BAM! there was FW 1.02! Now my Cowon F2 (wich I used for quiet songs due to its 95Db SNR) is going to eat dust now since my good'old Walkman is deadilent too..... Superb work guys!!! It's the best and most usefull FW update I've ever done on any device!!! And Ishiyoshi, thx for the great explanation! greetz

I have exactly the same problem, I thought it was me, but I see somebody else has the same problem. I really hate this. It's a big smudge on a perfect player.... greetz

I think NW-HD1 is one of the most stylish MP3 players in the world.... I'd really love a NW-HD1 remake with a colour screen (LCD) and the new functions like Clear audio etc. I'd be the best DAP!! But my vote went to the best MP3 player so far.... or at least the most complete..: NW-HD5!!!! greetz

Well, I've been very busy lately. So my review has been delayed a couple times..I'm sorry for that. Keep the ''pictorials and reviews'' topic in sight tomorrow as I probably will post the review somewhere tomorrow. again, sorry for the delay. greetz

Hi there, I own NW-A805 and Cowon F2.It's no D2 but SQ is roughly the same. I also owned a samsung YP-K5. The samsung sounds very bad compared to the walkman. How the cowon compares is something I'm testing right now. Keep the ''pictorials & reviews'' section in sight for my comparison review between NW-A805 and Cowon F2. It's coming probably tomorrow. greetz

new nano rumored to have Samsung chip? Do you mean the Flash memory or the actual audio chip? The flash memory is from Samsung indeed, The audio chip (wich gives the soundquality) is from Sigmatel. greetz

well guys, So far I've had no time for a review..... sorry for that. I can just quickly say what I thin of the Cowon F2... just awsome. So much power in such a small package. Unbelievable. It has a very powerfull sound. 60mW outup results in high clarity, deep details and powerfull reproduction. In a rock track the power stays.... wich is normally lost due to the low powered MP3 players muffling it all up... But not with this baby. Where my NW-A805 doesn't seem to get all the power out of a rock song this Cowon does. Now I didn't say that Cowon does sound BETTER then NW-A805... I haven't desided this yet.. but it's a truly magnificant DAP... that's for sure.. And I don't say this often... Creative's Zen was very good.... It surprised me with it's SNR... But this baby just has me all numb for now.... I'll post the review as soon as possible... But I thought I'd share this with you guys, greetz
