  1. Right klik didnt work ? when I kliked on it it opened in a new browser with QT , is that what it did for you? On the Macbook Control+ klik, and I got the download link, I am still learning how to use this forum , at the moment there is a buttload of house construction going on , the parts I cant do by myself we hired a company to do it, so I am sitting up in my room with my comp all day , to loud downstairs to do anything.
  2. Me neither , I will do 192 but 320 is usually what I do . Hey by the way , I posted a " treat for everybody " in I think Live Recording section, mp3 of some Taiko drums , cruise over and tell me what you think , I gave a descript of the basics. I had to do it at 128 to keep it small enough to upload here. TC http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=18772
  3. " What does that have to do with......" it sounded a bit more like a retort than a question ,sorry and if he encodes evrything to mp3 at 128kb or uses mp3PRO at 64kb ( Audion 3 will let him do that) he could fit quite a bit on a 1gb disc. It doesnt sound like he is interested in absolute quality , but just decent enough to listen to , and to have a lot of it.
  4. Sassha You will need to record to the MD from a Mixing board that has dicrete panning ability with a high " Crosstalk " ratio Mackie , or Allen Heath ( they make small ones ) But put the mic thru the mixer then to the line in on the MD , Panning the mic Hard( all the way ) right or left will cut the sound from the other side . If you try to record to the MD directly from the mics , it will pick up on both sides.
  5. Thats an MD DATA Writer and Sony MD DATA BOOK , (w/keyboard ) there are a buttload of them in Hardoff over here
  6. Not a true center cancel , it has an FFT filter , and some other stufff you could reduce the vocals but not delete them
  7. ther is that AIR i was mentioning
  8. Then you would hear a difference , PCM is Wav , no compression at all. There would be a noticeable difference in what is called "Air" or High frequency spaciallity it would depend on exactly what you are recording as to what you would hear . Acoustic Guitar , solo w/ ambience . Much bigger stereo image, and depth . Piano solo , Brighter , cleaner attack on the notes. Loud rock band , Some high freq. clarity and "Air" but the depth wont change much. The delicate areas are where that change is most notable Micheal Hedges "Aerial Boundaries " was done on a Tascam 16 track board with Sennheiser mics, and Sunrise pickup system on the guitar, everything was on 2 inch tape and post processing , Listen to that albumn , is the really a need for it to be "cleaner" Perfect numbers isnt what good sound is about.
  9. I belive it was mentioned (or maybe I missed) that he wanted an Alternative to recording from one disc to the other, he said he had made these Digital copies , so they will be scmp protected , so the only other way without buying the RH1 is to Go from MD player To MD recorder . So break out the beer and cables. "The basic question - is there some way of transferring the music from my MDs to either an MP3 format or on to Hi MD, so I can carry all or more of my around with me? I am also not very technical and need things explaining simply (sorry)." He wants to get them to HI MD so he can tranfer them to computer and convert to MP3 Three options #1 MP3 recorder #2 Record to the HI MD then upload and convert. #3 Record directly to the comp with sofware from the MD player. Read the post before you attack someone.
  10. hmmmmm, the force is strong in this one , we shall have watch him closely.......

I have a friend "Jackie Frost " on her first CD se is singing an old traditional " Shenendoah" and she just brings me straight to the melt , The emotion she puts into it brings the loneliness of that song right into your heart. It is beautiful http://pulleytunes.com/_wsn/page2.html
  12. You will have to record from the computer to the HI MD from the line out of the computer, Set the Disc mode on the HI MD , to regular MD and record at normal SP mode ( unless the player can do LP ) TC
  13. I am hoping that Kurisu will give me a premium membership , and a bigger box to put stuff in , in exchange I will upload sound clips From JAPAN YAY! This is a group a 5th and 6th graders , plus parents , at the school where my wife works .Every year they have a festival and I record it . I recorded it in 2006 using my Then Brand new RH1 , and my trusty AT 822 , The SPL'S were way outa control we are talking BIG drums here. Originally the recording was quite muddy , because of the room compression, it was indoors in a room about 30ft wide by 45 long I was at the back of the room , 27 peice Taiko set w/ODaiko (2 of them) SOOOO much BASS............... BOOOM! lot of clipping ( minor but it was there) I imported to Audacity , First thing was to trim the ends , then selcted All and ran the Normalizer set -1 db , then the AU Graphic EQ , lowering the bass , adding some mids and highs to clean it up , the Normalize again to take the EQ generated peaks down , Then EQ again in specific mid fequencies to clarify the stiks and rim hits, and the cowbell. Then normalize again taking the peaks down . Fade in / out on the ends , convert to mp3 , and Now without further ado.......I present the " Dream Storm Taiko Group " Uchiawase!!!!!!!!!
  14. I absolutely agree , I find the controls on the RH1 to be very awkward , and unfriendly , I really prefered th older deck with seperate line out from the headphone , the Standard line out just sounds better and cleaner . New isnt always good.
  15. Depends on the Quality of the souncard your running into. Todays soundcard are 24 bit 96khz capable most of them which is higher than what you initially recorded at , then what software you use to record the MD on, Download Audacity , Hook the MD ( I used to have the 37 as well, I like the MZ-R50 better ) to the computer start audacity, set the preferences in audacity to record from line in , and set the quality you want it to record at , ( if your computer is capable of 24/96 you can use that , if it isnt set it at 16/48 or 44.1). Close Audacity after saving the settings then restart it, ready to go . Md at ready and paused Audacity open , klik the input meters (upper right corner ) and they should become active. start the MD and watch the meters ,if you have good levels pause the MD back up to beginning of track , hit the record button in Audacity and play on MD let it roll. You will see the waveform going across the screen letting you know its capturing. After the track is in , hit stop , then the editing fun begins , Fadins/outs, compression EQ , reverb, etc the noise removal isnt the best , you could end up with a wierd whining noise, just UNDO if you do , I have the RH1 , but I find myself using the older recorders I have a lot more than the RH1 , and even though it isnt a Direct transfer, your ears wont really notice if your initail recording is very clean , once it is in the comp , your in the digital domain .
  16. CHEAP as in REAL Cheap FREEEEE , Audacity, has a basic noise removal, it has Normalization, it also using the Mac AU core audio units. so you have access to multiband compression , which you can isolate certain frequancies to compress while leaving others alone ( the only way to compress) Fade in /out is "click drag/highlight ,thn on the tool bar klik "effects" select "fade in" or "Fade out". Klick drag to highlight a part you dont want , on the keyboard hit "Delete" done... Export Project as Wav , mp3, ogg vorbis, mp2 , and selectable levels of each . fastest easiest prog for simple edits that there is. http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
  17. I love the Safari Tab command "Command T" I copied and pasted the NW-A808 into google to take a look . Nice peice, and yes that is partially what I was talking about , Everything is centered around downloadable music now , and live recording is such a niche market, I just dont think that Sony wil make any BIG investments into any Middle High ground recording gear , (RH1 being the example ) it will get cleanly divided into two divisions , consumer gear , and full blown Pro gear Sony does have a large market in the Pro Audio field , and Video Production , over half of TV Studio equipment is Sony, that is substantial, they cannot afford to give that up. I appreciate that this subject is being explored like it is , From the US or Euro centric view it is hard to see the trouble that Sony is in , but living here in Japan and seeing how " New"itis effects society here , Sony has to follow the market that is here to survive. The Market here does not revolve around us audiofiles who like to capture everything we hear. Society here is very fast paced , I have gone out on Garbage days , and found COMPLETE perfect condition Computers , Audio Systems, TV's , whatever, the new thing comes out , it is almost mandatory that the Japanese family or person goes and buy's it. the "old" stuff Goes immediately to " Harddoff, or on the street to await pickup , My god I wish I still had my 68 VW van , I could start a business just shipping this stuff to the US there is soooo much of it. http://www.hardoff.co.jp/ Ishiyoshi san, kono homepegi tsuyyakushite kudasai , buko nihongo yomenai, hanaseru dake do .....zannen dekinai, Americajin tabun kono webpage mitai ka na? Yeah , when I grew up we played outside , we did things , I got into archery , and hunting, fishing , and woodworking, now if it doesnt have a circuit board it isnt interesting. My kid is 12 , and I am trying very hard to keep him from falling into that trap , he has a better balance than most because we do go do things, and I spend a lot of time with him, Most Japanese kids hardly see their dads, but the two working parent family is growing rapidly here, which isnt going to help any. The Graphics of the games here are so realistic it is scary , and the kids find them as their escape and support. Watching a crowd of ten thousand all moving in unison , all with cell phone in hand e-mailing someone and no one talking to each other ( yes I have seen this) is one of the most surrealistic things I have experienced. Sometimes Tokyo/Yokohama reminds me of "Logans Run " ( I am really dating myself here) Thx for that comment. TC
  18. Chking my mail box ..??? didnt see anything.
  19. Journey - Very first Albumn , before Steve Perry
  20. No doubt that they were running to a Mixing board and using a limiter and the EQ on the board, Adam I have a recording somewhere of a Barouqe Quintet , in a long narrow room , (15 ft wide by thirty long roughly , hard floor but soft vinyl floor tile, Sheetrock painted walls and ceiling tiles like you have . The mic was an AT-822 with the Low cut on ( audio Technica) and it was placed at the very back of the room about 8 inches from the ceiling , I was using a MZ-R70 SP2 mode, There was no amplification whatsoever from the group , which means that the Flute (Wooden ,Period instrument ) had to compete with Violins and Cello and a Barouqe period piano, (Clavier) handmade beautiful . I chose that mic place for the reason that the lower frequencies tend to get trapped in the upper corners of the room, the mids, will be more in the center of the room because it is a compression zone, and the highs tend to difuse along the walls. So by centering the mic High in the back I tamed the violins so they wouldnt overpower the flute( remember I was well away from the flute so to the untrained person you would assume that the flute would not be heard at all) I will make an MP3 of part of that recording unaltered in any way , when you hear the flute balanced with the rest of the group I think you will understand better about experimenting with mic placement. maybe day after tommorrow or so, I have to find the recording and get it into Audacity. TC Ok here is the MP3 You will hear that the Bass freq are quite strong , and the mids drop to a balanced level, and the flute comes thru quite nicely , Manual rec level ,somewhere around 17/30 with mic sens high.

  22. Hey Green , how are you . If you dont mind let me explain an example , I was working with a group called FRENS, the albumn is called "The First Time" , it Took a Sony Silver Microphone Award . We were in the studio just added the Bass parts , and were touching up the Keyboard part when we noticed a harshness in one area that wasnt there before, after twenty minutes or so Isolating each track and doing some math frequency analysis i came to the conclusion that the conflict was in how the Hi Hat ,on the drum set and the Ride cymbal interacted with each other ( frequency wise ) was clashing with the keyboards , but it wasnt noticeable until after the Bass was added and polished into place , the compression of the the Low frequencies of the Bass guitar was "pushing " the the minimal distorion of just slight disimilar freq. of the two cymbals out in front, just enough to interact with the Pristine solid Sine Wave that the Keyboard were presenting.I brought this out to Baron and Rudy , then Sunny (the Owner of the studio), Inserting a parametric EQ into that track( aside from the one that was ON the board, a Sony MP 3056) and changing the compression values every so slightly , Isolating the offending values and clamping them down . We came out with a pretty good take. I know how to hear . Frens " The First Time" , Recorded in Richmond VA, at Sunny Zhao's Dreams Factory . http://www.smooth-jazz.de/Artists3/Frens.html http://www.dreamsfactory.com/ Sunny and I got into an Argument over this one, It was sooo funny
  23. But That IS the Fune of it , any MD nut ( Like myself) the actual ACT of recording , the capturing of the non catchable . Good beer , coupla freinds , Concert on the DVD player , cables and cords everywhere and copies being made.......yes I still have fuzzy dice.
