  1. I need a clear understanding of TOSLink as it relates to minidisc, specifically the MZ-NF610 and MZ-NHF800. The TOSLink cable I own has two ends, one with a male/bayonet connector, and the other with a square connector. My first question is whether this is a uni or bidirectional cable. The answer to that should resolve my second question, which is whether the female ports on both of the minidisc units mentioned above are i/o or input only. My third question is which pc sound card has a native (not requiring an adapter) TOSLink port. My final question is whether using an SPDIF/coax connector changes the data from digital to analog. All wisdom gratefully accepted.
  2. Do you really need the mz-rh1 to transfer recordings on a MD to the PC? Why not use the optical output that is available on a number of minidisc decks to the PC for a perfect copy of the recording?
  3. Ladies/chaps, I recently rediscovered my Minidiscs and dug out the various players I have (in-car, portable and Hi-Fi separate), however, the portable player (Aiwa AM-NX9) came with Sonicstage 1.5 and I've appeared to have lost the disc. I know there were subsequent updates but I last used it in 2006 and do not know what's what. Besides, I recall updating once and it buggered up and I had to reinstall 1.5 and gave up on any further updates. A lot of the discs I have are live recordings that I copied from live DVDs via my Hi-Fi setup (one of the great benefits of MDs due to the simplicity and editing functionality). I also recently copied a performance at the SXSW iTunes Festival via the iTunes shop (getting my own back on Apple!) and it sounds killer! Now, I want to back up these recordings to my Laptop for posterity and for iTunes use but don't know how. My Laptop is a Sony Vaio and is using Vista. I've heard you can transfer tracks via one of the jack ports and then edit via Audacity but this seems a bit long winded, especially using Audacity (I have a free copy and cannot get my head around it). Any help appreciated!
  4. Hello everyone I've just joined this forum as you all seem very knowledgeable. I recently got my mindisc players down from the attic with a view to selling them but changed my mind after rediscovering how good the sound quality was over my MP3 players. Anyway I managed to get Sonic Stage back working then got the PC to see my player and happily made a couple of discs, but yesterday when I went to do more the player wouldnt even recognize the usb lead was being pluged into it. I've tried about 6 different leads but no joy. Please help as I want to put my new music on some discs.
  5. Hi Can I transfer my music from my minidiscs to my PC through digital out? I prefer digital over analog connection (quality). All my minidiscs were recorded through digital connection from my CD player, using MZR-1 at first and MDS-JA3ES later on. Thanks Lior
