tasdisr
Is it possible to connect my RH10 to my stereo receiver? Do I just run a cable from the headphonejack to the input of my receiver?
KrazyIvan
That's what I would do with my N510. I would turn off any EQ and raise the volume to max. I don't know if the RH10 has a line-out, but if it does use it.

tasdisr
I did get a cable and hooked my RH10 to my Yamaha receiver. I turned the equalizer off and the volume all the way up. The sound overall was pretty good. I did have to turn the volume up quite a bit on the receiver, but the sound was good. The disc I used were just some mp3's of various bit rates and sound quality.I converted the tunes so that I could record them on another disc to try on my NH900,since you can setthe headphone jack to line out, something that cannot be done on the RH10. The sound, to me at least, was the same the only difference I did not have to turn my receiver voulme up as much.Bottom line is I was happy wih the sound reproduction on my home stereo. mercury_in_flames
I always thought listening to my r909 was sh!! on my stereo because the volume of the md's line out wasnt as good as an original source cd. But i spose if you dont mind.
tasdisr
As I said the sound reproduction was good, not great. It is no where near as good as using myCD/DVD that is hooked to the stereo. But I like the idea of hooking my RH10 to the receiver for listeningto a large block of music without having to change a disc, especially since my CD/DVD player is only asingle disc unit. ( i guess on RH-10 )?And how far "Up" did You have to turn the volume "Up" on the Yamaha receiver, in the percentage of max volume of 100% - how much "Up" ??...and what is the normal % volume level that You listen when playing normal Cds (not Mp3 Cds) ?? ...is it possible that when playing regular Cds sound could be better or much better, ...did You maybe by now had a chance to check this out ?I;m worrying that my plan to play RH-10 Hi-MD discs at home via regular receiver will not be good listening experience .../ hmmm ?? ...( i also have single disc CD unit ).i Appreciate any more info from You, ...ThanX Edited November 13, 2005 by Human

I turned the equalizer off and the volume up on the RH10. Since I am not an audiophile and really don't know what it means, when listening to a normal CD, the volume is set around -35db when listening to the RH10 I have the volume on the receiver at -20db. In comparison with my NH900 set to line out, I can turn the volume down slightly to about -25db.I think the sound of regular CD's are much better. However I did take some songs that I converted to ATRAC3 132kbps and the sound was much improved, at least to me. Hope this helps. I will be trying someother recordings and will try to post my findings.thanks
dex Otaku
I have measured the output of my RH10 at full volume to be just slightly below 1V peak to peak with a full-volume recording [test tone at 0dBfs]. This should be comparable to most home stereo equipment, in particular older equipment whose output is slightly less than more recent sources like HiFi VCRs, CD players, and the like.Note that when playing MP3s on 2nd-gen HiMD units, the frequency response is sloped off 9dB above 1kHz. This is part of why it's so much quieter playing MP3s - the bulk of the signal is being reduced to less than half its original amplitude [almost exactly half its perceived volume].See here: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=10621&hl=RH10Oops, sorry the the hilight in that link. The original images [graphs] are missing from that post. I'll see if any of the mods will re-insert them for us.
tasdisr
Hi DexThanks for the post and the link to your review of the RH10. I think this clears up afew things. As I posted earlier, I noticed that the disc I had recorded in ATRAC3, the soundseemed much better to me and I could turn the volume down on the receiver somewhat.thankstasdisr
Human
dex Otaku and tasdisr THANK-U for info and for the link, that was very helpful. But i'm coming to conclusion that i should be getting in this case the NH-1 model. It has both proper line 'in' and 'out'.I got also very helpful post from Sparky191 in >RH10 review/comments + RH10 vs. NH900 pictorial!, A few things worth noting... < and one of his links was also very informative (to me):: http://forums.minidisc.org/lofiversion/index.php/t10343.htmli'm also looking at Sharp IM-DR80 NetMD MiniDisc Recorder. i found on AudioCube site (for $ 300 USD)- ....it has proper speaker-Out line, but from the specs i can not figure out if has proper recording "line-in" (to record from any source, not from computer) , i just don't understand the technical terms to well in the list of Sharp options, = options that i included in my post in:: RH10 review/comments + RH10 vs. NH900 pictorial! ...i wonder if any one here has this Sharp model , and what is the opinion on it ?If i go for the NH-1 the only thing will be now to locate where i can but it. It is not that common in Canada or USA , i found it on AudioCubes site , i would prefer to buy from USA or Canada,.... i will keep searching the net or Sony stores.I like to THANK YOU ALL for taking Your time and answering my questions Have a Great days and nights surrounded by music that brings GREAT feelings to the body ...and soul Edited November 13, 2005 by Human
