folax
i can't figure out which unit to buy and this seems like the place where very knowledgable people can help me decide. I am looking to buy a md unit to make field recordings. i want to easily transfer things to my MAC, i want ease of use, and i want quality sound. any advice anyone can give me would be great. thank you dave
A440
Mac compatibility: RH1 yes, RH10 no. You need a PC for uploading from the RH10. The M10 is the Mac version and it's about the same price as the RH1, so it's no contest. Ease of use? The RH1, no question, because Sony finally fixed one simple thing. With the RH1 you can start recording with Manual Volume rather than auto gain control. You would want to do that with a field recording of any decent quality. With the RH10 or M10 you need about 5 clicks through menus to set the same thing and you have to do it every time you start recording. There have also been complaints about the RH10's display going bad, how easy it is to scratch, its shape, etc. The gripes are here:http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showt...=16703&st=
1kyle
RH1 forget the RH10 -- it really was a DOG.Cheers-K

The Low Volta
you mean the RH1 (not 10), and the screen is no problem at all and really great for recording but for playback (navigation and display of track/group-titles) the remote is necessary (it comes with a backlit stick-remote)
folax
so it seems like for field recordings is the best buy i'd say, there are no other hi-md that come close??dave
jaylen
If you really, really like the RH10's big screen, but need to use a Mac, you can try looking for an MZ-M100 (http://www.minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-M100+RH10.html). Good luck.
