Need help from Onkyo MD-133 owners

It is nice to meet everyone. I am not new to MD but have been using it for ten years now. I recently took the plunge into the world of home HiMD decks with my first Onkyo HiMD unit, the MD-133. I have a few HiMD discs made on a portable, but never had a home unit. I purchased the Onkyo from someone on CraigsList for a decent price. When I got it, I plugged it in through my 120v to 100v converter that I use for my Japanese cassette decks. When I turned the unit on everything seemed ok. When I tried to insert a disc, the disc pulled into the unit, but not enough for the door to close (is this normal?) and after a few seconds I got a "mecha error" message on the display. Pressing the eject button did nothing, and turning the unit off didn't do anything either. Unplugging the unit and plugging it back in only resulted in a "read error" followed by "mecha error". I figured out how to get the disc out manually, and tried other discs. They all do it if they are std md's or himd's. When I wrote to the person I bought it from, he told me that this Onkyo came with a small adapter that plugs onto the power cord which converts the 120v to 100v. He said this adapter is small enough to fit on the plug, and that it is white. I'm not sure why this would make a difference, but the person I bought it from seems to think this could be the problem. I don't see the difference between the adapter he is talking about and the standard adapter that I have which converts from 120v to 100v since it works with all my other Japanese components. But, the main problem is that the person I bought the deck from insists this adapter he's talking about was in the box, connected to the deck's power cord, but I can't find it. I searched all the packaging, and there is no adapter included. If anyone out there has this deck and is in the USA could you please let me know about this adapter? Please let me know if not using it causes the problem I'm having with this deck. Please help. Thank you in advance.

Here is a picture of the problem that the deck is doing.

Doesn't anyone know? I thought a lot of people would have this deck. Please help. Thank you.

Hi.

It's not good message.

This link is relative to the Onkyo md105TX md deck and the error message is described like "An error occurred in the unit's internal mechanism".

Is the unit damaged?. Probably.

Thanks for answering. I've already taken the deck with all the packaging to the post office so they could inspect it. It was even triple boxed very very well, and the box showed no signs of any kinda of damage or trauma whatsoever. Since there was no sign of obvious damage the post office said it can't be determined to be their fault. It was really packed well.

No one else has any ideas about the mysterious adapter?

Thank you all again.

Hi.

I've got the MD105FX (the other Onkyo HIMD deck). I bought it in www.audiocubes.com.

The deck shipped with the adapter to convert (in Europe) from 100 v to 220 v by courtesy from audiocubes.

I think that is very common convert (and cheaper too!). I think that your converts could be work with the MD133.

The message figure in the pdf link that I sent you like a technical problem.

Can you probe with other convert from a shop in your area?.

Good Luck!.

This problem has NOTHING to do with ANY kind of ADAPTER, or any problems with power supply. This is a MECHANICAL problem. I won't suggest the real cause of it, but most probably the deck was subject to a strong shock (the packaging was unable to prevent it, however good it was) during shipping.

Try inserting (and removing) a disc about 15-20 times. If this does not help, the only way is to the service center...

you could try lightly dropping the entire unit from about 1 inch from the top of a solid table while its plugged in. maybe something is stuck! you could also try banging the unit sharply on the side using your hand. be very careful not to break the unit. try this several times. i think something needs to be unstuck. good luck
