Make sure it's not static.

If you have the player in your pants or a shirt which creates static electricity (even if you can't notice it). it is perfectly possible for the player to do that.

I was wondering what was wrong with my E99 until I figured out that it only did what you describe when my (polyester) jogging pants were charged with static electricity (from either running or the dryer). It seemed especially bad when the player was in the black carrying pouch that came with it. If the player was not in the pouch, the problem was not as severe. In any case. the solution was to not carry the player in the pants but elsewhere - some part of the clothing which was not as exposed to static charges.

Thanks Dinko, I think you hit the nail on the head! The player is only ever in my coat pocket when I am walking when it does this. When I am holding it or sitting on the train when it's in my coat pocket it works fine.
